- Go through the roller coaster of emotions in the Barry Trotz era of the Caps. Congrats to the Capitals on their Stanley Cup victory this year, they deserve it.

As a pens fan, this is a great video. You can’t say you’re a hockey fan if you’re not proud of the caps for winning the cup this past season. Idk if it was the pain and determination that pushed them to win this, but they fought harder than anyone else and clearly deserved it more than Columbus, Pittsburgh, Tampa and Vegas.
After Washington beat us in overtime, I was a little disappointed. But not at all bitter. If it had to be any team to end our reign, I'm glad it was them and not the Flyers. Philly would have just destroyed their city and ate horse crap again like they did when the Eagles won.
You can see they would rather die on the ice then experience another disapointment again. From the moment they got over Columbus they only had one thing on their mind and that was the cup, step by step. For me this is one of the greatest stories in hockey in the past decades. I have watched the team struggle in playoffs in the past 4 or more years and what we saw this spring is something I will never forget. Thank you for the memories Caps.
You watch ovi and Backstrom and holtby and every year, their reaction gets worse. After the Pittsburgh series in 2017, the Caps really thought they were about to do it, presidents trophy, came back from a 3-1 deficit against the pens. On home ice for game 7 and then they got shut out. You saw ovis interview after, he didn’t think he’d ever make it past the second round. Backstrom reportedly was crying after the game, his dad trying to consol him. And watching all of their interviews, it looked like they were at a funeral. I’m glad they were able to do it this year. Not for me, for them
I also have to admit I have lost faith in Holtby during the regular season and wanted him to be traded. But he proved me wrong and made me look like a fool. I did not see this comeback coming but the more happy I´m that it happened. His save against Vegas was the last strike that really made me believe this is the year and nothing could change it.
The 2017 game 7 against Pittsburgh was probably the biggest heartbreak I've ever experienced as a sports fan, I really thought that was going to be our year. But after they came back from down 0-2 against Columbus I knew there was something different about last years' team. They were playing under fire the whole year, nobody was taking them seriously all year as cup contenders, the window had closed, should've traded Ovi/Backstrom/Holtby... that playoff run was all inspired by the motivation from the previous playoff failures and it was beautiful. Really the hockey version of the 2011 Mavs if you think about it.
Agree. I Love when teams like this win.. The teams who have been through the most pain, and who deserve it the most from just pure hard work & determination. Not just Talent.. It makes it so much more special.. Unlike the Spoiled teams like Pittsburgh who always get the best fuckin players in the world all on one team some how. One Era they got Lemieux and Jagr for 15 years! Next Era they got Crosby, Malkin, Kessel and the best damn goalie in the league Fleury.. Ridiculous.

Lol I lived in NJ in 2015 as a caps fan and It pissed me off so much when we blew a 3-1 lead and had to come to school with all the ranger fans
seeing us lose in 2015 had me heartbroken but i’ve stuck with the caps and beloved in them knowing they could do it and when they did it elt so good to rub it in the penguin fans faces

As a lifelong Pittsburgh Penguins fan, this is crazy. I loved how Ovechkin finally got a cup. Congrats to him and the Capitals. He himself deserved it, and I hope the best in the future. Except against the Penguins! Go Pens!

@@gregr771 dont worry we will. Hahaha it will come down to the pens and caps in round two for at least 2 more years. I wish the NHL did the reseeding format like they did before Winnipeg came into the league so the best teams dont play each other in the second round. Good luck to you guys too!

In the aftermath of this historic victory, I've read and heard the haters say, "They won't win another". Truth is, after cheering for the Caps since my first hockey game in 1989, I'm fine with only 1. I don't care because it's easily the hardest trophy to win in all of professional sports. The Capitals have proven that over the years by having the best team in the regular season and losing early in the playoffs for YEARS. This year they literally slayed all those playoff demons in one postseason. Tortorella, the Lightning, Crosby, Letang, the Penguins, losing Game 7s, blowing late leads, unlucky bounces, 2nd round, and Marc Andre f**king Fleury. As much heartache as all Caps fans have experienced over the years, now we can always have this one to remember forever. Hockey just got less stressful. #ALLCAPS

Man, I'm not even a Caps fan, but what a well made video. So much disappointment and sadness in Ovi from the earlier clips in the video, really made you feel for the guy. I'm so happy he was finally able to win a cup, the guy absolutely deserved it in every way possible. Excellent editing all throughout, can't wait for you to (hopefully) make more videos!

Preds fan here, but in that 2018 series against Pittsburgh I was so happy that they finally broke through against them I was celebrating like it was my Preds.

I had tears running down my cheeks as time expired. My dear friend Jeff "Sweetos" Sweetman became a Cappies fan while stationed in the Navy out east. Coming from Wisconsin we love our hockey. We love our Badgers and all if their success. Jeff loved his Caps. Dare I say more than our beloved Packers or Brewers. He never got to see them hoist the Cup. The cancer took him from us in June of 2015. He was only 44. Somehow I think he sat in his lofty recliner upon a Heavenly perch in his crusty old Capitals jersey and smiled. Man I wish he could have seen it before he cashed in his chips. But alas, life is never fair. They can put a man on the moon, but they can't find a cure for that fucking cancer. Truly messed up. Rest well old friend. We will meet again. But not yet. Not yet.
That year had such a different feel to it than others. That year I knew deep down that it was their year. Didn't hit me until game 6 of the 2nd round, but it was a feeling that couldn't be mistaken. That was their year

As a DC sports fan (Caps, Nats, Wizards, Redskins) it was so amazing to see my team win it all finally. I was at Game 5 when they won I think i was more happy about us beating Pittsburg more than anything but like the guy said we “exercised our demons” and pulled through adversity each round to become Stanley Cup Champions!

I read many comments saying Ovie deserved to win the cup. As a Caps fan, I must say that no one "deserves" to win the cup; you earn the cup. And I am proud to say that the Capitals earned the cup. We won every series on the road and partied like no other team has or ever will :)
I called the cup on Game 5 of the Columbus series. I've never seen a team so fast and so hungry. You can see it in the footage of that whole run. Blazing fast. The Caps wanted it and would not be stopped.

As a Ranger fan (I was actually at Game 5 of the 2015 series) I could tell what a special year it was for the Caps. Finally beating the Penguins and winning the Cup all in one year, storybook type stuff.

As a Sharks fan, we know just as much as Washington what it's like to have high expectations and piss em away every chance we got. Personally I lived through the Caps the second Vegas knocked us out that year, it was probably the most satisfying finals of my life, with Boston beating Vancouver in game 7 a close second
Obviously not a Caps fan, but this team definitely was something special. That "demons have been exorcised" call will always give me chills.
Ovi was like: Finally, we beat Pittsburgh. Then came the Vegas series and came face to face with Fleury, and was like: "F#ck, where did this guy come from?!?! I though I beat him a month ago." Lol

So i went to the parade and afterwards my friend and i went to Tony Chins. It was slow inside and their was a guy i would he was in his late 20s. Now understand my friend and i are in our late 40s and we have been lucky enough to understand wining a championships withe the Redskins.We started talking to the guy about the Caps and he started getting a little teary eyed and he said i watched a lot of local sports and i never knew what it meant to win something big. That hit home to me. recalling how it felt for me and how lucky i am to have seen the Washington Redskins The Washington Bullets and Now the Caps win a Championship.So to top it off his great day i payed for his entire meal .
As a TB Fan, My family tried you raise me to hate Ovechkin, I still feel amazingly happy for him and his fist cup. Well done
