Why don't the commission mention the list of standard and reference books along with the syllabus like school, college academics?
There wouldn't have been any confusion, dilemma, loss of time, money and mind.
Aspirants study from notes available here and there. And this compromise with the level of knowledge that they should have. I think aspirants would have had a much genuine knowledge if they were to follow the sources recommended by the commission. This might result in greater no of selections from the rural india, where the aspirants usually not be able to join coachings to have better understanding of the subjects for themselves due to financial drawbacks. But this will probably destroy the coaching markets, because "confusions regarding study materials" is also one of the several factors that makes this exam one of the toughest exam.
Shouldn't we have the right to be informed by the commission about the sources?
If we are informed about the syllabus, why not about books ? How far is the difference in between these two after all ?

The syllabus itself is vast and covers a diverse range of topics. Providing an exhaustive list of books for each subject would not only be impractical but also limit the aspirants' exposure to different viewpoints and restrict their intellectual growth. The UPSC exam aims to assess candidates from various backgrounds, including those from rural areas who may not have access to expensive coaching institutes or study materials. By not mandating specific books, it allows aspirants to utilize a variety of free and affordable resources available to them.
It is important to understand that the UPSC exam goes beyond bookish knowledge. It requires candidates to stay updated with current affairs, read newspapers, magazines, government reports, and explore various online platforms for information. This approach ensures that aspirants develop a holistic understanding of the subjects and encourages independent thinking.
While it may seem daunting at first without a prescribed list of books, this approach actually promotes self-learning, research, and critical thinking skills. It levels the playing field for all aspirants, regardless of their financial constraints or background. Aspirants are encouraged to seek guidance from mentors, explore different study materials, and make informed choices based on what works best for them.
