Been waiting for this one. I grew up here and even worked at the Electronics Boutique in this mall for several years in the late 90s, early 2000s.
It’s definitely a shadow of its self now, but I have so many great memories of this place.

Wow. I worked there in the early 90's. You would have worked with Jayne? I was working there when she got hired. My grandmother used to be a cook in the Woolworth's restuarant/cafe.

@@glock21guy Yep, Jayne was the manager who hired me. I started there after they'd moved out of the old spot and were temporarily in the old US News while they built the new store.

Looks like a great place, nice and clean. It will hopefully find a way to survive. I can't imagine not being to go and get something to eat and wonder around all the different shops for something to do. Not to mention, running into people you know and chatting. Great video!!

Wow the intro really got me 😢. Malls here in ohio are shutting down and lots being taken by Amazon Giant Distribution Centers. I live on the Western Cleveland Region and i never been to Springfield Ohio. I grew up on the Springfield Massachusetts region. The mall that holds dear memories for me is the Ingleside Holyoke Mall in Holyoke Massachusetts. Its Sad what times did to malls and now with this pandemic it obliterate them completely. Even open malls center are struggling. BTW my Name is also Anthony, Anthony C. Awesome video

I also thought that was a great touch particularly going along w/ the channel's goal of documenting the places before they disappear. That was a really effective execution.

Really liked the intro to this video, with the pictures of the mall from then to now. I especially loved seeing the Woolworth! One of my closest malls also had a Woolworth back in the early 90's when I was little. I was into collecting buttons back then, and that's where I remember getting a lot of additions to my collection. So seeing that old Woolworth definitely brought back great memories. :) Sorry your mall is struggling. It's always painful to see a place you've loved going to since childhood struggle in modern times. :( It was and still is a nice looking place, though. Hope it's able to turn around!

I really like this new cartoon/Escher Print start to your logs now, Anthony. Very nice musical start as well. It appears to be scrubbed of all character inside. No innovation nor design aesthetics are left by their remodel. With no mall for 50 miles this should be able to rebound from its bleak neutrality and lack of style. They went for Meh, and Mission Accomplished. I hope that someone takes over and makes this happen for the Mall that your grandfather helped build and where your grandmother worked. The more that I get to know you the more I appreciate you. You’re a great guy, Anthony, and I think that you’re doing what you like doing, and that’s a key to finding your own happiness. Looking forward to more! Your friend, G

I remember when the first of these opened in Australia. It destroyed a publicly owned golf course, but everyone said we needed it. I used to go as a youth to chase young ladies and to buy very little.
Sixty years on, as an old man, I no longer need the stuff that I used to buy. I've raised my kids, took them to these places, they took their kids and everything was wonderful until..............we all realised that we no longer need these places and we really don't want the overpriced stuff that they sell( realise that the shopping complex takes 25% of gross sales from the tenants).
Sad as it may seem and fond may our memories be we have to realise that sailing ships gave way to steam ships and that railways did the same to coastal shipping..........along came the motor car and everything shifted another notch up the mountain..
These shopping complexes are gone forever and we await the next incarnation of what governments think we need. Remember that Jesus drove the money lenders out of the Temple..............good on you Jesus!!!
They didnt build the shopping centres for us.....they built them for themselves.
    Stavros, the eternal optimist

the montage at the start of this vid is well done, its hard not to get 'the feels'. spent a lot of my formative years at this mall and have lots of memories from there. I basically saw everything popular at that 2 screen theater in the 80's. I can remember seeing ET and then being taken down to Woolworth's where they had some cheesy ET tie in promotion just inside the entrance. Also remember standing in a long line to get tickets to see Return of the Jedi. Also remember when their arcade shut down in 04 or 05 and they basically never changed the games in the few years leading up to that. The arcade is where I have my fondest memory of the place: there was a Konami's Devastators by the entrance that if you happened be standing at at the right time of day in August, the setting summer sun would sink low enough in the sky where sunlight came through the mall's side entrance and covered everything in a soft orange light. There was a kind of magic to the place.

    I remember a few trips there as a kid in.late 70"s.
Grew up in Gowanda, and most times I remember my mom, " dragging us little kids shopping" we went to Hamburg/ West Senaca ( south shore plaza, Southgate place, & seneca mall) But also a few trips to Chautauqua Mall.
I remember the Woolworth, there was a ponderosa I think, and right next to it was a pet store.
Still remember as a 6 yr old, I was worried, seeing the flames on the char broiler, I was afraid it was gonna catch the place on fire and burn the pets.
I also remember walking in the Sears entrance, which was electronics back then I guess, and seeing TV's with remote control on.high display ( wasn't common feature at the time)
Remember asking my.momif we could get 1, she said NO

Feels like an 80s teen romance movie that ended bad, not in the bad way but like this guy goes through all these great lengths just to confess his love in hopes of winning the person hes going after, but either gets denied or see they're with someone else and they head home broken hearted and in romantic despair

I am sorry for your loss. I am older.57..and Have seen malls and detached businesses com and go over the years. As our society is changing, people are changing their shopping habits. I worked in an upper scale store. when it first opened, you could not move in there during their sales events. Now, you go in there and some of the part ends are actually empty. This store had a catalogue for a while, but now has transitioned to inactive website where you can shop from it. That particular mall had safety issues as well as a shortage of parking. They rectified the parking problem, but people do not want to have their car stolen, have to dodge bullets, (no joke) The pandemic is going to change our lifestyles. This part of the pandemic has me personally nervous. I think it is fear of the unknown and feeling powerless about the changes and illness itself..Everone. Be safe and healthy.

another comment here: yes, this mall is following decline like other malls, but let's be real. That mall's death is due to way more factors than just online shopping. Walmart kicked that mall's business in the nards pretty hard when one was built right next door in the 90's. Jamestown suffered economic devastation from loss of industry around 2000 and basically turned into a slum adversely effecting the surrounding region. You've also had niche businesses like radio shack that always had stores in malls go out of business (which, yeah, online shopping). That mall also bungled its food court when it renovated in 99 where it had a food court, but almost no restaurants. The last time I was at that mall was 10 years ago, and it really felt close to death back then. So its crazy to me that mall is still operating at all and its only been within the past 12 months people are making videos declaring it "dead". Even crazier is, as of your video, the FYE is open and operating and the gamestop is gone!

I missed the premiere, but I am playing catchup. A mall with just a JCPenney is hurting these days for sure.

You said there was going to be a link to that identical mall in ohio in the description but I don't see it. Also Neon Trees sleeping with a friend was credited but I didn't hear that.

With a generation that prefers to stay inside, my question is, why buy pants if you're not going anywhere.
