MAPA was born out of the laundry room when the boys were quarantined together during the pandemic. They were missing their families and Pablo asked the boys what they like to say to their parents and guardians.
MAPA, composed by their leader Pablo. In Tagalog, MAPA usually refers to a MAP, but Pablo sees it as a tribute to our parents who guide us through life's journey, akin to a MAP guiding travel. Additionally, MAPA holds familial significance, representing both "MAma" (mother) and "PApa" (father). Breaking it down further, "MA" symbolizes "MAta" (eyes), and "PA" signifies "PAa" (feet) in Tagalog, adding layers of meaning to this creative linguistic play.
The song "MAPA" serves as a heartfelt tribute to the unwavering support and love of the artists' parents. It conveys the message that it's now the artists' turn to work and provide for their parents, acknowledging the sacrifices and struggles their parents endured while raising them. It symbolizes a sincere effort to reciprocate the care and dedication received during their upbringing.
Pablo beautifully compares our parents to a guiding map in life's journey. Similar to how a map directs us anywhere we go, our parents provide guidance and support throughout our lives. They are like a constant beacon, helping us navigate through challenges and uncertainties. Just as a map helps us find our way back home when needed, our parents are there for us in times of need.
As we journey through life, we encounter various modes of transportation such as vehicles, airplanes, or ships, each representing the highs and lows we experience. Despite facing ups and downs, riches and setbacks, the map of parental guidance remains our steadfast companion. It serves as a tool to overcome loneliness and adversity, ensuring that we find our way through life's trials with their unwavering support.
Lataratara was actually a part of a lullaby Pablo's grandma used to sing to him when he was little. He thought it would be a great addition when he wrote this.
Latsaratsara is a lullaby. Its like they are singing to their parents for them to rest. Its their turn to take care of them.
The "Lataratara latsaratsara" part they keep humming was supposed to be a lullaby. It's what their parents used to sing to help them sleep.
But this time, they were the ones singing it back for their parents.

Listening to MAPA always feels now like a warm hug, a sweet nostalgic feeling of love for my parents now long gone.

Don’t know if you caught Pablo’s wordplay. Mapa in Tagalog means map which is why that’s what u see in the video, but it also means Ma and Pa= Mapa. This iconic song has been sung at students’ graduations and translated into different languages.

It could mean map or Mama ang Papa.
This song is about all Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who work abroad to support their loveones back home.
