So cute, Bonnie in the background trying to see out of her stable. Laragh reminds me of my favorite horse, will go all day and will not let an injury stop them. Speedy recovery Laragh.
Too bad about Laragh's injury! Hopefully she recovers soon. I loved seeing you follow the hounds so closely and the interactions with them. I'm a fairly new watcher, a former anxious horse school rider so hunting is something I could never dream of doing. It's wonderful to see it like this!
Oh poor Laragh, she doesn't have much luck does she, bless her. I really hope it's nothing too serious though and she makes a speedy recovery from it Lucy! It looked like you were having a great time out there too until that happened. Hope the damage to the front of your friend's horsebox wasn't too bad either hun. Have a great week and take care Lucy! ❤🥰
I remember attending hunting runs with my husband who trained and cared for his landlord's horses. High-spirited people on high-spirited horses they DID'NT necessarily ride regularly. (one could tell by watching who did, and did not, self-train their horses) The horses were fine, occasionally the people fared somewhat worse. We took them over the courses with the farm dogs trailing behind. LOL The dogs started getting into it, but we had to assure them....we weren't doing that. Dry Run. We're cosplaying as hunters. Sad dogs. They wanted to cosplay as hounds. Some of the ex-racehorses took CLOSING very personally; took a lot of work to get them to not focus on beating each other. GROUP activity Thank you for pulling her up when you felt her gait was off. They'd rather keep going, many of them. NICE footage!
Lucy, Justine & Charlie, Have a few questions from my non horsey husband that I can't answer. #1. What if the Huntsman directs the Whip/whipper-in to overtake him for whatever reason. Will that go against hunting protocol? #2. What if something dreadful happens to the Huntsman, who takes over? If so, how does the rest of the Hunt know that someone else is now in charge? #3. Over here with foxhunting there are flights, such as 1,2 and 3 depending on the riding skills. Does that apply with Bloodhound hunting? #4. For non-jumpers we do Hilltopping. Not necessarily on hills, just not doing jumps. Does that apply with Bloodhound hunting? Again, I can't answer these questions for Hubby but hope you can. Loved the video and hope Laragh Lee recovers fast.
Thanks for the questions! Here’s my answers: 1. As long as the huntsman gives directions, then you can overtake him. For example, Charlie asked me to go up ahead at one stage and push the hounds over closer onto the line, which I did, then I hung back to let him go ahead of me. 2. In the event that something like that happens mid-hunt, *touch wood it doesn’t’!* then I guess the whips would take the hounds home, as I’m not sure it would carry on. I’ll need to clarify that though! 3. I’m not really sure what you mean by flights as never heard of the phrase, but I’m guessing you’re reffing to the difficulty of the line(?) As a rule you have to be a capable rider and aware of your horse/ other people so that everybody stays safe. The country is lovely, with great ground and all the jumps are optional 😊 That also kind of answers the last question too! Thanks for watching 🙏
Lucy, Thank you so much for getting back to me and my non-horsey husband on his questions. I think if something dreadful happened to the Huntsman then the hunt would be stopped and like you say the Whips get the hounds back to the trailer while others seek help for the Huntsman. Something similar happened to me many, many moons ago on a hack. Horses & ponies were spooked and flighty afterwards. For some reason the horse I was riding (the sweetest Welsh Cob you can imagine) kicked out at a mare, missed and totally smashed in the rider's kneecap. Need I say more? The rider was escorted to the nearest pub to get an ambulance (the days of no mobile phones & in the middle of nowhere for an ambulance to get to) while the rest of us headed back to the stables. In regard to flights, I think it is best said that a very large hunt (normally on the opening meet of the season) split people into groups. First flight adults, second flight kids on ponies. You would be mad to hunt not being a capable rider though there are some out there and unfortunately are the ones that can cause problems from my experience. Safety is Rule # 1 as far as I'm concerned. Once again, many thanks for replying and perhaps a Vlog in the future might be with Charlie and or Justine to explain Hunting Etiquette etcetera.@@footluceeventing
I 100% agree with putting her out. Stalling is completely unnatural for horses and the best thing for most injuries is turnout. Horses turned out most/all the time tend not to tear around and be nuts--that's just horses who are stalled way too much.
Thank you for explaining the rules of the hunt and how it all works. Usually we don't see a lot of the hounds as you are not up front, so it was good to see them and be up front with you. I have to say that poor Forest looked a bit knackered half way through!! Sorry about Laragh, let's hope it's just a minor thing and that she's back to normal quickly.
Thanks for watching! Yes bless Forest he was a little tired, it was only his second day on the job, he actually got taken back after the second line in the Land Rover 😂 Thanks for watching 🙏
what a great hunt just lovely! u should put some DMSO (20%) and diluted Balls solution (40%) mixed with distilled water (30%) and rubbing alcohol (10%) in a spray bottle and after u cold hose ur horses leg spray this over the spot quite liberally where its swollen and dont wrap or rub it in...and turn out ur horse like usual...this helps tremendously! =) u can cold hose again when u like and respray the solution on twice a day unless ur horse is sensitive...then dilute the Balls solution to 20% with more water...hope u do well ! i used to train endurance and race horses when i was younger ,

Bugger about Laragh's injurym she looked like she was enjoying herself being upfront with the hounds and Charlie. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery, and Laragh is back out doing what she loves!! Also, did Rob enjoy being a runner for the bloodhounds?
Shame there are bits cut out, it be nice to have the whole thing.. even the quiet moments. .. I can’t ride at the moment but used to enjoy an odd hunt meet in my late teenage years. The ditches were my favorite.. luckily my Irish draugh cross horse was very brave enough, there was always some horses that weren’t so much. To be continued.. I wish Lara a speedy recovery.. ❤️🩹.
Is it taboo to wear a body protector/ air vest for hunting? I've been watching your hunting videos for a while and have never seen anyone wear them. Just curious to know, since I don't know anything about hunting
I hope laragh recovers quickly. Thank you for explaining more. Out of interest what would happen if the hounds got the scent of a rabbit or an actual fox?
So they’re really only trained to hunt the scent of a person, but if they did get another scent that would take them off the line, our job as the whips is to guide them back on track. So basically as long as we’re doing our jobs properly it’s all ok!
Here's a silly query: When you're out hunting and traversing various terrains, do you use studs? Or what do you prefer for maintaining traction, if any?
No such thing as silly queries! I don’t use studs, in fact I’m not sure anyone does (I may be wrong!) because the ground is generally very good, if anything there’s just a slight bit of mud so as long as you don’t wang it round corners then all should be ok 😅
@@footluceeventing Thank you for your response. It's interesting how here on the West Coast of the U.S., we've become so soft that we use studs on grass even for a 3-foot hunter course consisting of 8 fences. 🫣

Good question! So there were two hounds that weren’t keeping up as well as the others, so there was always a whip making sure they were still on the line/ ok. After the second line they actually both got picked up and taken back in the land rover to rest! We still had 9 hounds hunting which is plenty 😊 Thanks for watching 🙏

No one is allowed to ride ahead of the master of the hunt, all the other riders have to stay behind the master of the hunt.
