My favorite part about this movie, especially this scene, is the attention to detail. For example, the strobe lights. In a real version of this test, strobe lights would be used to simulate two things: the lasers, and thunder. In a real scenario, thunder can make it hard to concentrate, leading to lapses in judgement and misseeing things. Thus, it was used here to distract participants, so they had a harder time noticing what Smith points out.

This scene is so well written, it’s played as though he’s screwing up while showing how he’s beating the tests. It shows his personality and both why he should be a MiB and why they’re not sure about him. It keeps MiB mysterious while making sense when you rewatch with context.

@@shadowdran the start
The first ?
Yes it is the first
Why am I only realizing this now 15 plus years later that the reason they chose him was because he was able to identify a oddity among humans that aliens with skins would easily make a mistake for.
The way he laughed and said the guy had no clue why they were there... Boy that killed me.
Moral: if you have a short height in college, hide your books
This scene is so well written, it’s played as though he’s screwing up while showing how he’s beating the tests. It shows his personality and both why he should be a MiB and why they’re not sure about him. It keeps MiB mysterious while making sense when you rewatch with context.
And then you realize nothing he said makes any sense.
@@MrSkme I mean atleast here it does Partialy make sense
Yes in this case it would likely be about target identification and shooting skills but his whole Reasoning as to why the 8 year old Girl doesent fit does make sense
@@MrSkme It does make since why they hired him since aliens are fitted into human society in the movie.
@@LittleDanny9899 It certainly doesnt make sense to end the little girl just because she is holding a science book. Imagine trying to pull that one. "She was holding a complicated looking science book your honor" lmao. His reasoning is just extremely poor.
@@MrSkme Well it was not just that but also her being allone at night in a bad area and i think he pointet out 1 or 2 other things.
and obviously real life is a bit different in Terms of we are not tasked with Exterminating Aliens as well as that also not being a court case.
I mean even in that Universe Aliens are not kill on sight but for the Most part just live among Humans and the whole MiB Operation is more so there to Identifie Illegal Aliens and Combat Danger if it arrises.
and i mean he did Prove Quick Thinking with the Reasoning he did show that he is able to spot Inconsistencies and while he did not shoot the intentet Targets his Aim was also on Point.
Now if its not a Movie for fun would he Pass probably not but it also would Involve a Lot more test then in the Movie And a couple of them would likely specificaly aim at testing the skills he showed of there
