“I think that when we write, what is really important is that we need to read a lot.” - Literature laureate Annie Ernaux gives her advice to young people and speaks about the importance of honesty in writing in this conversation with Nobel Prize Outreach’s Claire Paetkau. Recorded on the day the Nobel Prize was announced, Ernaux describes how she found out she was the 2022 literature laureate while listening to the radio alone in her kitchen - and how to her it felt like being “in the desert and there is a call that is coming from the sky, that was sort of the feeling I had.”

It is very pleasing to hear from her lovely voice that she was listening to the radio for the announcement of the prize because it is really something tangible and pretending to be indifferent to the prizes does not concord with the willingness to write. And voila you hear your name is pronounced with the most prestigious prize on the planet. Kind of pleasure every mortal would like to taste. I highly recommend her memoir La Place.

I am also the author of my book Beyond my words feel it. This book has 21 poems. I have been doing poetry since I was three years old my father gave me hope that you can write and thats made me a writer. And my mother whom I lost last year during covid she use to say me always that one day you will win the Nobel Prize in literature that's why I am also writing and waiting for the day when the world will recognise me as a Nobel laureate ❤
