My kingdom for English subs! I don't speak German but I'd love to know what Mr. Brauner says about Lilli and Romy. Any chance someone can post an English translation of this interview? I'd be forever grateful!
@FlewMary Exactly...I'd do anything to know! The idea that there could have been feelings between them gives me goosebumps .To me, Lilli was SO perfect as Elisabeth that I can definitely say she WAS she. And I am not surprised the cast thought there was actually something going on with Romy: who wouldn't fall for somebody as gorgeous, and sweet, and classy as Lilli? Regardless of gender, she was just too beautiful...and playing THAT specific role would have made it only easier for Romy.
@Kiyraesyn Here you are : ) Exactly...who wouldn't have fallen for her? Under those specific circumstances? Lilli was just too much to resist...Who could?
He basically is saying that he suspected that during the filming the two actresses build a very deep connection and that it might have been gone on outside of the acting. That it wasn't just acting, it seemed like they really understood and lived the feelings of the characters (which I think makes sense if you know a bit more about the story of both. Lilli herself mentioned in her biography her crush on a female teacher when she was like 12 and Romy is said to have been with woman, too, so maybe bi). He also mentioned that they put a lot of effort into the 58 version and he thinks it's better than original and even the cast from the original movie went to see that movie and were impressed by the acting.
Also - does anyone know if the extras in this German DVD version of MiU come with English subtitles? www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C0GWZ0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1HZSA5JUUDTUK
Schade, dass niemand weiß, was genau damals zwischen Romy und Lilli während der Dreharbeiten geschah ...
