I live and fish North of you in KC, our Blues in the Missouri River our fantastic. Tough for me to go back to Truman or Ozark lakes, the fish are to small.
I saw a statistic that 24.8% of blue cats in Mark Twain were harvested or die every year. To me that’s insane. Slot they put in helps but I do wish that people wouldn’t keep the overs
Nice catch. Just so everyone knows: Mo Conservation rules states that if you use more than three poles (two on the Mississippi) the additional poles must be labeled with your name and address or conservation number.
Look to North Dakota if you want to see what very conservative size and creel limits will do for the fishery. The channel cats are monsters up there. The Missouri River is another fishery that has benefitted from conservation. 100 pound blues are getting more common every year. I would like to see more restrictive size and creel limits on LOZ and Truman.
I know this is an old video. But I really don’t understand why I see so many other anglers and guides and the customers take home tons of big trophies that need turned loose. I’ve been fishing below Truman for 35 years and I feel like il never understand seeing stringers of 20 to 30 blue cats all over 30 to 50 pounds before they put restrictions in place for years before they done anything . Don’t know why nothing was not done sooner. And now the waters are nothing like they use to be. I was there today reeled in 11 blues I turned them all loose. Problem is for one guy like me turning them loose there’s 20 other guys keeping everything. I understand people wanna eat but until something is done it won’t change. I’ve landed blues that where 60 and 70 plus pounds I released just 15 years ago them days are close to gone. Conservation and that whole area could do a better approach on preservation of the trophy 🏆 blues and big fish DNA 🧬. It’s all about money and nobody gives a darn . I understand families folks make a living there. They can’t not see what the impact has on the fish species in the area. Anyway I like your videos and content. I feel like I’ve seen you around before just passing thru on the water below the dam over the years . Keep up the good videos good info maybe folks will take more initiative to start releasing more fish. I sure know I miss the old days on Truman. Days where you could catch 20 blues all over 25 pounds easy. And go home with sore arms lol 😂that’s the way it was . Sad thing is I seen guys pull up at the bar drinking bragging about the monster blue cat in there truck bed 95 degrees outside not on ice laying in the sun .Tell me they was going to eat that what a waste. Seen that over the years more than I’d like to remember. But on the bright side at least some folks have took notice and are trying to make a difference like yourself. People have to start somewhere. ✌️good luck and happy fishing good luck on your channel.
I've been trying to get the word out as much as possible. In the early to mid nineties, I fished about three nights per week and consistently caught fish over forty pounds and countless numbers in the thirties. I don't have near the time that I used to that I can commit to fishing, but I now have better gear, a better boat, and a wealth of more knowledge then I did then and it's going on a year now that I have caught a fish over forty. It seems there are more dinks now then ever before, and maybe the constant swarm of them attacking my bait has something to do with it, but my gut tells me no. I have seen trotlines pulled up as fish over sixty to eighty died on them and floated them up, I have seen literally thousands of jugs and noodles left out and unattended with everything from dead catfish to Great Blue Herons on them, hundreds of catfish tournaments releasing almost dead trophies and the all around just hundreds of fishermen chasing the big ones for catch and cook, all in the name of feeding their family. The trophy Blue Catfish has become a rare resource on LOZ and Truman rather anyone wants to admit it or not. Anyway, thank you for your kind words and support. Tight lines and I'll see you on the water.

It's strait below the dam. Out in about the middle of the river at the first curve, there is a rock formation of sorts that if you scan it almost looks like a wave on the bottom. I just call it a rock pile due to a lack of a better description.
When I get another image of it, I'll get a picture of it with my phone. Every time I have drug baits across it, bounched across it, or suspended in it I have been hung up and lost my gear. However, if I spot lock above it and fish above it, I have caught fish every single time. It's a great spot, which is why it's my go to spot so often. LoL
My spot lock is an analog one attached to a hunk of rope that hopefully locks me into place depending on the current there. I've been hung and lost gear there as well. Maybe we'll catch each other out there someday. I have an older Tournament Pro 18, nothing special but it floats and puts bait in the water.
You're running circle hooks, why are you yanking the rods? Either reel down on them or let the fish hook themselves when they bend that pole over. You do not have to set circle hooks, you run more of a chance of yanking the hook out of the mouth when you try to set them.
Well, actually I intended to be using all khal hooks, but I had a couple of circle hooks I hadn't lost yet and couldn't remember which rods had them and which did not. 🤣 I absolutely hate using circle hooks, because, there are many more dinks than trophy fish in our waters that can't even get the damn hook in their mouth and just shred bait.
@@hydrodiction6925 I see. I have no real problem with the circle hooks, I have found my hookup percentages have gone up since I moved to them. I use 8/0 hooks and have caught plenty of fish under a pound with them, perhaps its the style of hook you are running. Have you tried Charlie Brown hooks? A slight offset will help with the smaller cats too. I try to target the larger fish though and I agree on the number of dinks on Truman and LoZ, there are tons but those dinks will becomes monsters in time.. if only we had more fisherman who practiced CPR on the trophy cats.
I agree 100%! Hopefully given a few more years, the slot limit will have worked and we will have an abundance of trophy fish. All I've really noticed so far though is more and more slot fish. LoL

my name and conservation number is written on all of my rods.

That location looks to be east of the US 65 bridge in Warsaw.

@@hydrodiction6925 If it will show on the Humminbird Helix I have, I should be able to find it.

@@hydrodiction6925 Do you fish the lake much? I like it over by Talley Bend. I've pulled some nice blues there drifting.

No more slime cat?
Slimecat bailed out, therefore, I returned the favor.
have you been out much lately
I hadn't been out for like 5 months up until I went snagging yesterday.
