honestly HTTK was their worst album... they only had a few good songs. that drummer had so much potential, but he didnt deliver it like he should have. he needed to be more like jimmy, not lars.
HTTK imho is the weakest album they got, but its so much better then most other bands still, and I feel it shouldn't be disregarded as an album. Crazy how fast the years passed. It’s like yesterday, having this song playing while updating my MySpace layout or putting on my winged eyeliner before going out to Party
This here is when you just know something really cool and unique is beginning to take shape. On an instinctual level, you're already aware of the greatness they are destined for. Whenever you have such a devoted, ever increasing fanbase working as hard as the band itself is to ensure you give them their chance- that's when you know something special is happening. Very few bands cultivated such a dedicated following within their grassroots when they were still just starting out. These types of fans are just the town locals who see them playing their local bars & night clubs on the weekends. No record deals, music videos, or slots to join Warped Tour have come yet. These are all just hundreds of locals following them, yet they're already enthralled by this undiscovered, no-name-band. The few other bands who also rose to prominence the same way by generating a cult following so soon are some of the biggest names in Rock history: The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Guns N Roses, and Soundgarden are but a few of the other prestigious names who rose through the ranks the same as Avenged did by creating a local buzz so intense that it forced the record labels to sit up and take notice. These types of things become movements, and if you can manage these upstarts properly, then you have captured lightning in a bottle.
This is first A7X song that heard - i remember when it came in 2003 i thought "another metalcore band, but sounds kinda different than Chimaira or Lamb of God... I'm very impressed for evolution of that band, and everytime i listen to them, old or newer stuff, i hear real fun of making music, these guys are real fans of hard'n'heavy... ;]
I see people referencing their age, like 26 years old, 30, 23 etc. and I'm over here at 38 remembering seeing this music video in 2003, thus exposing me to the band for the first time.
From a lyric standpoint it goes like this. 1. Waking The Fallen 2. Sounding The Seventh Trumpet 3.Nightmare 4.Self-titled 5. City Of Evil 6. Hail to the King
Even if lyrics are good on the first two albums, the screaming ruins them for me. I'm glad Matt doesn't scream too much anymore, his singing just makes the songs 10x better.
Went to catholic school for a bit and had a beaten up hand me down bible for religion class and I forget what chapter and verse it was but the words “avenged sevenfold” were highlighted with the logo drawn next to them

[Verse 1]
"I'll try"
She said as she walked away
"Try not to lose you"
Two vibrant hearts could change
Nothing tears the being more than deception
Unmasked fear
"I'll be here waiting" tested and secure
[Pre-Chorus]
Nothing hurts my world
Just affects the ones around me
When sin's deep in my blood
You'll be the one to fall
[Chorus]
"I wish I could be the one
The one who won't care at all
But being the one on the stand
I know the way to go, no one's guiding me
When time soaked with blood turns its back
I know it's hard to fall
Confided in me was your heart
I know it's hurting you, but it's killing me."
[Verse 2]
Nothing will last in this life
Our time is spent constructing
Now you're perfecting a world meant to sin
Constrict your hands around me
Squeeze till I cannot breathe
This air tastes dead inside me
Contribute to our plague
[Bridge]
Break all your promises
Tear down this steadfast wall
Restraints are useless here
Tasting salvation's near
[Pre-Chorus]
Nothing hurts my world
Just affects the ones around me
When sin's deep in my blood
You'll be the one to fall
[Chorus]
"I wish I could be the one
The one who won't care at all
But being the one on the stand
I know the way to go, no one's guiding me
When time soaked with blood turns its back
I know it's hard to fall
Confided in me was your heart
I know it's hurting you, but it's killing me."

This was the first song I heard of a7x and been bumping them ever since
This song has it all, punk rock, metal, and metallica, pantera vibe, with the melodic chours man its a masterpiece.
Still slaps 19 years later, one of the few songs I can play front to back in my head without hearing it
Did you say 19?! GTFO
I think i have a special talent then cause i can recite probably 20 gigabytes of songs
Heard this when I was 11 for the the first time. I'm 26 now. Still a banger

I dont get thr hate for httk
Even if lyrics are good on the first two albums, the screaming ruins them for me. I'm glad Matt doesn't scream too much anymore, his singing just makes the songs 10x better.
deathbat at 2:24 is like "please kill me"
LMAOO
Jesus Christ they looked so young, I miss this era of time😌🥲
Went to catholic school for a bit and had a beaten up hand me down bible for religion class and I forget what chapter and verse it was but the words “avenged sevenfold” were highlighted with the logo drawn next to them
this video makes me feel ancient.

I remember picking up this cd when it came out. They were signed to hopeless records. They weren’t very well know at the time but I have played this song for tons of people and they are all like who is this? My answer M Shadows. I know people think they suck but I will always say they still rock hard. I have shit loads of tatts but one day wanna get avenged tatt. Love them that damn much
I don’t even give a fuck about how I feel about a7x’s decisions after this album.... this song stands its ground
Fun fact this was the second time they recorded this at the concert and Matt told the people this will be the last time
