I had an AWD EV9 to test this weekend. Yesterday dry roads around 25KWh/100km mix country roads with villages at 11 degrees C and 50 km motorway. Today around 30KWh probably because it was raining. Normally I drive a HEV Sorento at 7 l/100km for the same drives. Driving in West Slovakia. P.S. The lane assistant doesn't work in the rain due to water on the lens. Try it in spring.
I hope that KiA EV9 will get a bigger battery next year , for this size SUV 290km range at speed 120km/h 4 passengers is not what people expecting . Just driver on board at speed 84km/h it takes 25kWh :) Real Korean Tank
Kia cars are made so well. I had a Niro EV and it was solid as hell. My new model Y has those rattles when hitting bumps that I now have to go to counseling to cope with my purchase.
Hi Bjorn, I think retesting range of this car now in summer would really show how much temperatures/tires inflict range, this would probably be round 30-40% difference in consumption, at least according to my experience... should be under 19 kW/100 at 90 km/h easily...
Was it a Scenic E tech in the beginning of the Video, charging just next to the Kia beast? Yes it was, with french licence plate. @1:15. Did you pay attention?
Harry garage used your data, and made a clear point: the market asked for big suv cars. But with EV's we want a low consumption, because battery isnt growing this fast. So the succes of EV's should be based on low consumption, fine battery and fast charging. I really think he has a point. I would never buy a EV that usage more then my model 3. It just doesn't make sense. If the consumption of a suv is double, the battery tech isn't double yet, so range is lower.

It all depends on how you use cars. We dont roadtrip nearly as much in scandinavia as they do in the states, or maybe Australia. This would solve all my needs, except one: long range when towing. Even that is acceptable, once-pull-through charging becomes more widely available. The trip I know of that is still "impossible" with EVs is the long-range high-speed tow of a caravan from scandinavia to the mediterranean, say if you want to mimimze the calendar time it takes. Thats a trip which would be insane to do in an EV, and Im sure some has already done it anyway.
@ good example of "high" consumption load based on "small" battery. Even if you dont roadtrip, low consumption is also know as, only once a week charging, instead of daily charging. When I'm more local, I'm able to only charge on Sunday. The battery will last the hole week (500km).
I prefer efficiency over bigger battery but this KIA EV9 would be perfect for my family. We drive quite a lot like 25-30k a year but mostly its 100 kms a day and few 250 kms trips to Lapland and max 1 trip to south in a year. 250 kms of winter range is enough for me
Does it beep only if you go over speed limit or does it beep all the time while over the speed limit? I can live with it beeping once every time I go over the speed limit, but not if it's going to keep beeping all the time.
And they probably will not improve it with updates. There is annoying shit in a Tesla too, but still my car is better than when I bought it 3,5 years ago and I know, that updates will be coming as long as the hardware can run it. Besides maybe games, there is still plenty of potential even with the Atom. I watch Bjorns videos on 2x speed and even then I wonder how laggy some infotainment systems are.
Useable capacity of traction battery is 96.6kWh. So base any calculation you need off this figure. The remainder is buffer to help protect the pack, so the user-driver can never fully charge or discharge the entire traction battery pack.
I am looking for a car that Can tow a Big trailer, there are only expensive cars like this that con do that. Leaning most to the bmw ix, but if you want the Big battery you have to buy a to expensive model.
If my data is correct you could take a Mercedes-Benz EQA 300 AWD for 53k. It tows up to 1800kg or 4000lbs (breaked load). Only negative point would be that the AWD + the trailer would lower the range by a lot and this car does not have that big of a battery inside so you can't do long haul towing without stops. For that you still need big battery SUVs like the BMW iX. Other than that it would be an affordable option to tow heavy loads
We can't hear the quality of the sound system and to be honest nobody listens to music with flat equalizer and everything turned off. Instead you should check audio settings availability so we could see it.
Actually the search worked, a POI was available right under his finger… Tapping OK or Search at that point would have shown more results. This search tool also wants to allow searching for settings and other parts of the car, that’s why the search GUI was changed from older eGMP cars. It’s weird but it does work.
Incremental search randomly shows the correct result. In other cars, incremental search shows the correct result without having to press ok. Cumbersome in Kia/Hyundai.
Do not go for bmw IX if you want something sporty..You just basically do not buy an suv and go for a low sleek sportscar (EV that is). 😀. If it was not for the fact that we are just 2 ppl in the family this would be an awsome care but have no need at all for all this space
Great test and EV9 is a practical car, but I don’t agree with the comparison to the Chinese cars. Look at the design of this car compared to BYD, NIO or Zeekr cars. Kia seem to choose function over design. Software is lagging and outdated user interface. Navigating in the maps reminds me of our 2017 classic IONIQ :)
What about BYD Tang in price for value ? Has same amount of space, better battery and better build quality since byd blade battery can last 5k charge cycles and this Li-ion will last only 1k or no ? what yo think ?

Its probably a good car, not at all as available as the Kia though, not sold in Sweden for example. Also a lot lower tow rating at 1500 vs 2500kg.
KIA EV9 has way better build quality, the interior is nicer, too and has very clever features. For example you can spec rotating captain's chairs for the second row or a radio transmitter in the third row which allows you to talk directly to the passengers there instead of screaming through the vehicle. The KIA EV9 also charges faster. The range of the KIA is good, even in cold temperatures and I doubt that the BYD would drive that far. The KIA also has higher towing capacity. The EV9 is better in almost every aspect except maybe in price. The BYD's aren't cheap in the West tho, so the price difference is not as big as you think it is.
Wait for the facelift of the BYD Tang it will come with 108 kwh battery and 190 KWh fast charge. Its supposed to come this summer. I think it will be cheaper than ev9.
Actually, byd blade batteries have SoH issues in china, 80% SoH with only 80k kilometers. And Li-ion batteries with only 1000 cycles you said, that is CATL NCM811. SK and LG 811 has warranty of 1800 cycles.
This navigation software is just unacceptable for a new car. Yes you have android auto but then it won't precondition the battery. Why could tesla solve this in 2012 and others cannot in 2024?...
I wish KIA would just do like the chinese and copy Tesla software instead of trying to build their own shitty version. I also wish they listened to their customers more like the Chinese. KIA communication is so corporate and marketing oriented.
Such fat cars are being built and sold, for what reason? I'll stick to my Civic at 1350 kg, no need for over 2.5 tons to move around each time you go for a drive out...
Well the battery pack weighs near 600 kg and it is a much bigger car than the civic (~65% more passenger volume). It's a car for someone who has multiple people or a lot of stuff or both to transport around.
Electric cars are just to complicated .... preheat battery ,slow charge, charger off line ,no preheat available at low % level, heat scavenging, cold gate, charge till 80% discharge till 20% 🐢 mode, ect ect what is going !.to scary to get a electric car.
I remember when ICE cars needed you to switch to 5w30 oil in the winter and 10w30 in the summer. Some still require special octanes of gas that aren't available at all fueling stations (high performance cars). In extreme cold climates you need to plug them when parked so the oil / engine stays warm enough to start. Then there is all that regular maintenance to keep them running.. Oil, Oil filters, radiator fluids, transmission fluids.. You either need to know how to do that yourself or literally drive them to a specialist to do the service for you. So inconvenient, not to mention all those out of the way stops at fueling stations vs just leaving home with a full charge.
