I went down beach that night near river bend and it was like water almost brimming over a cups edge, fortunately wind was blowing westerly; if it had been coming in from the east it would have likely toppled both lines of defenses. Best Gorleston rebuilds those stairs pronto to assist in potential evacuation scenario, we don't want another Hillsborough.
