Dragon looks like a more buffed version of Wiper from Shandia. He also has a face tattoo similar to Dragon. I believe Oda mentioned Luffy would be brazilian if he was from earth.

I never heard of comparisons between Luffy and Seto before, but their affinity for ringing giant golden bells seems another commonality
I am a religious studies graduate and every time the concept of Gods is brought up in One Piece I am thinking about Thomas Hobbes and his book “Leviathan”. Leviathan is the name of a sea monster in the bible, usually depicted as a giant serpent, which is slain by the biblical God. According to Hobbes, the Leviathan represents the quasi divine rulers of ancient, pre-Christian and pre-Jewish societies, like the Pharaoh. Hobbes advocated for absolute monarchy and considered these societies to be examples of states, in which the sovereign is a divine, unrestricted ruler and religion and state are completely intertwined, with the religion being directly linked to the sovereign. Hobbes believed that Judaism started a trend which depraved the king of his divinity, making the cosmic, monotheistic God the “true” sovereign. It was now the God of the Israelites establishing all the laws and even the king, while still considered vicegerent of God, had to obey them. In One Piece, divinity and Gods (especially bad gods) are often depicted as despotic sovereigns. And many religions depicted are cults of an aristocracy and a “divine” monarch. Most notable, Imu and the Celestial Dragons, but also Enel. The positive “Gods”, however, are deities of rebellion and liberation and slayers of false Gods, like Kalgara and Nika. Nka is specifically introduced as a deity popular among slaves, and the God of the Bible freed the Israelites from the slavery of the Pharaoh. It could be a coincidence, but it is interesting nonetheless.
@@waltuh2412 Absolutely. Especially in the so-called "Old Testament" modern readers would often perceive said entity as cruel or immoral. But that's pretty much the point. The term sovereign literally means above, which very much means "above the law". That's also how Hobbes defined the term. The sovereign establishes the laws, but is not effected by them. He doesn't have to obey his own laws, and the very fact defines him as the sovereign. The biblical God stands above both the natural and moral laws they have established. That is why God does "miracles" in the Bible or occasionally acts against their own laws. The biblical God is not meant to be perceived as "moral", but as sovereign. Hence, the worldly Israelite King isn't the true sovereign of the state. The laws of the Tanach were set by God and revealed through prophets, even the King had to obey them.

Nice summary! I've been on board with this since I first saw the Randy Troy video but I wasn't on board for the stuff about Luffy's mother's side (interesting though it was).
If Luffy is a descendant of the Shandorians, or potentially even a Chief of Shandia, Water 7 could be an interesting mirror to the end of the Noland flashback (hear me out) A major theory is that Usopp is a descendant of Liar Noland, who cried when he saw Shandia gone, knowing he may never see his friend again. If Luffy is a descendant of a Shandorian Chief (let’s just even say Calgara for funs) - Usopp crying and apologizing before joining the crew on the Thousand Sunny would be Noland’s descendant finally reuniting with Calgara’s in the same way he never got to in the past. Usopp, Noland’s descendant, was able to make it back to Luffy, Calgara’s descendant, in a way their ancestors failed to.
Something I noticed recently in chapter 304-305, the start of the foxy pirate arc. Luffy thought the old man that fell from the bamboo stilts was a spirit. He implied that nothing else would come from bamboo but spirits. From Nolan and Ussops reaction, spirits inhabiting plants and trees doesn't seem to be a common belief. Yet Luffy immediately jumped to that conclusion unaware of the full details of Nolans story. This also takes place immediately after Skypeia, which might imply some significance to the line in relation to the belief.
To American media, that's often exactly the case - 'the Asian countries' often wind up having their cultures and mythology and history blended together and cherrypicked for stories all the time. So I could see Japanese media doing the same thing to a country as distant from them as we are from Japan.
the "South American" connection also points at Rocks too. He was named after the pirate known as Roche the Brazilian, who happened to purchase arms and his ship from François l'Olonnais (the guy Zoro is named after).
The most convincing thing in this video is that Noland is Montblanc’s descendant and if Luffy is Calgara’s descendant- then it makes perfect sense, it goes with the overbearing theme and ideology of one piece! It fits the bill perfectly. 👍👏👏

Just wanted to thank you Liam for always providing the quality One Piece content directly into my UA-cam feed, I definitely needed it today.
I just I was rewatching Engels cover story earlier to try and figure out some clues. One of the interesting things I thought of is that the moon people in the glyphs on the walls had bigger wings than that of the sky people, assuming then that they were lunarians and perhaps sky people are descended distantly from lunarians and are mixed with human races. Given some of the sky folks don’t have wings it’s possible to assume that some humans on earth have lunarians blood and are just descendants which would explain alot of Luffy was.
Something to add is that dragons tatoo can be seen on the tail of the Amaru, said to bring strong winds which mainly derived from andean mythology. This amaru can also be called a serpent or dragon. Also Enels final “buddah” looking attack was named 200 million volt amaru. The amaru can be seen emerging from a central element in the center of a stepped mountain or pyramid motif in the Gateway of the Sun. And alabaster came before the Skypia saga
I always thought Grount looked like an “evil” marine Luffy and thought it was funny that he was one of Garps youngins, all that to say Luffy does have more than one look alike FRFR

I am new to the story and just finished the Skypiea Arc in the Anime. One thing I noticed after watching your video is the similarity of Garp using the Ball and chain and Luffy using his arm and the Golden ball to fight Enel. Just a detail I was compelled to bring up.
5:08 Hey, I'm just an Actually Man here to mention this, but Brazil and Japan actually have a lot of history that's very widespread across cultural media. It's mainly due to immigration projects from both sides when Japan first started opening it's borders, and thanks to it, they have a somewhat more well defined image of Brazil than of the most surrounding countries. It's not much, but it's noticeable when you look at how much more often Brazil is referenced in anime compared to any other Latin American country in anime (still not THAT often, but it's pretty clear. Especially when contrasted to how much more western media usually references Mexico). Of course, that's just general cultural history and isn't evidence of anything, and I've no clue how much Oda himself cares/understands about it. But it does make a Japanese author mistaking Brazilian and Mexican culture a little bit more unlikely than you may believe. And I mean, if I know about it just from being a Brazilian and casually stumbling into the info without any real study, odds are good that the Japanese author known for using very varied cultural referes all over the world might have too.
This theory feels like something that if you asked oda in an sbs his response would be something like "what any resembelance is totally coincidental" or "of course luffy is like gods he is nika after all"
6:40 i like this.. it would be interesting if the strongest amongst sky people are born w out wings or something.. or some strong wingless line was there idk. I do like the idea about Enel's wings and the drums tho too.. like he sticks it in his wing holes to keep them from regrowing 😅 For the Garp dog head, i like that too. But i like the theory that Garp is posing as a government dog a bit better. Especially w other dog names serving WG seemingly. But that's what's cool about OP is they can both be happening. I like the layers and lv's of connections. It's fun!

sky island gods not having wings have sens. christian god don't have wings, and angels serving him have wings
This theory feels like something that if you asked oda in an sbs his response would be something like "what any resembelance is totally coincidental" or "of course luffy is like gods he is nika after all"
Glad I just caught up on both HxH and One Piece
Love that u have a one piece globe before a Earth globe
Is it sad this guy has been my Sunday morning routine since he started doing this channel
It's fun!
a little poetic that kalgara was put in front of a sunset since his time ended shortly after taking down that snake
You usually upload so intriguing videos that's keep me watching your channel 👍🏾😅
interesting he didnt mention the connection between Dragon and the god Quetzalcoatl possibly being his devil fruit.
I never thought there would be a day where the canonicity of a wink would be relevant
Hey man on the internet, I know the movies aren't always cannon but there is definitely a mention of how uta has figerland blood since she was shanks daughter.
