Amazing video shows ultra-low level flying from the cockpit of an F-16 cockpit

  • This footage shows an ultra low-level flying of F-16 from Misawa Air Base, which is around 400 miles north of Tokyo on the Japanese island of Honshu.
Military pilots continue to receive a lot of training in low-level flying. Fighter jocks continue to train at low altitudes even though the majority of current war scenarios take place at higher altitudes in order to sneak up on heavily guarded targets and elude areas covered by sophisticated air defense networks.
While stand-off weaponry and electronic countermeasures are helpful, pilots' ability to place bombs on target and survive to fight another day may also depend on their proficiency in low-level combat situations around the globe.

I'd imagine the world feels so much smaller when our usually static frames of reference like clouds, mountains and the horizon itself can be explored within a matter of seconds like this.

@@atharvsardesai4369 It's so crazy because you get a sense of that scale in video games when you fly, but because so few of us have ever physically experienced it, one might figure that it's just the video game that feels off and it isn't a good representation of reality.
I still haven't flown in a fighter jet, so I could never say that I know now, but the feeling of scale watching a cockpit POV video is so similar.

Fighter Jet Pilots get in the Cloud formations, Using the Cloud as a Mountain, and Avoid going into them clouds.... Never know what could be hidden in the clouds... So if they hit the cloud, at least it wasn't a Mountain side... Especially when it is Really Storming... and Huge Cloud Formations....

This has to be one of the best fighter jet cockpit view flight videos on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing. I would like to see you do a video of a long distance flight in the cockpit view of a fighter jet, from New York to Los Angeles. That would be awesome. We need videos like that. Please make it happen. Thank you.

There are a few other good ones, F-16 and Navy/Marine Corps F/A-18. In the F-18 low-level vid, he hotrods it a bit and rolls inverted over a lot of the mountain crossings. I used to fly the low-level routes near Big Bend National Park, Texas - canyons, desert, some flat terrain. We would run them at 360KIAS and 420KIAS, but I believe in the F-16 and F/A-18 vids they are running them at 480KIAS or thereabouts.

This is an astounding film. We see a lot of this here in the UK, mainly RAF Typhoons and USAFE F 15s ,with the odd C17 down in the weeds as well. I just love the bit where he or she flies between the windmills! Hope the pilot’s mother doesn’t watch this.....

If you slow this video down to .25 speed, this is what it would kind of look like on final approach to runway 35 at Danbury Conn. airport in a general aviation airplane. At about 600 ft. AGL you can look up at the mountain peaks on final at Danbury. In the winter you will even have the snow, like this. Beautiful.

The advancement those people made were incredible. I think there's more to our ancestors that people aren't telling us. I mean imagine building those pyramids in 20 years, unbelievable. Baffling.

This is called NOE or Nap Of the Earth flying. There are three skill levels trained: flying at 500 feet AGL, 300 AGL, and finally 100 AGL. (Above Ground Level) This flight looks to be at the 100 foot AGL. And, of course, some pilots have been known to intentionally drift below that 100 foot AGL mark intentionally (or unintentionally). Aside from a CFIT (Controlled Flight Into Terrain), one of the prominent features of NOE is the heavy turbulence often encountered due to the surface winds not being consistent. This Viper had very little turbulence which I find remarkable especially at just 100 feet above the trees in places.
