It’s a valid question to ask the ambassador if he represents Hamas. The UN ambassador of any country represents the governing body, not the people. That’s why the UN has no jurisdiction over the people of a UN member sovereign nation. The government is represented and the governments policies are represented in the UN.
That’s the catch 22 of UN member nations. If 2 UN member nations are in conflict with each other, the UN has no authority to intervene. They may bring resolutions before the council, and may vocally oppose. But they cant intervene. At most is humanitarian efforts.
Since Palestinian is a non-voting member observer member they have even less UN authority.
He’s too much class to ask that.

The UN represents all the people - even in American justice criminals get to be represented. The double standard has been so inculcated into the American mindset that it is hard to get them to see their own double standards.

A countries UN ambassador is a politicly appointed position to push a political agenda. In his example, the US ambassador is called the US ambassador and not “people who live at X gps coordinates” because the USA’s ambassador is serving a sovereign nations political agenda.
The Palestinian Ambassador is serving the political governing body elected by the people. Right now that’s the PLO and Hamas. (But the Palestine only has non-voting observers in UN). -and Hamas is not really recognized by the UN.
