I absolutely loved this, brought back so many happy memories. I was brought up in Harrogate and even now, 66 years on since I left, I still regard it as home. Would have loved to see more of the Valley Gardens where we used to go for our Sunday afternoon walks and was surprised you didn't mention The Royal Hall as you passed by. I used to Ice Skate there on Saturday mornings. Such nostalgia. You have made me want to go back again to relive it all and it is now definitely on my wish list for later this year. Thank you.
I actually live here in Harrogate and I deeply enjoy a nice walk through valley gardens and I sometimes sit in the recently built Japanese garden which is close to the boating pond. I also occasionally visit the town centre and go shopping 😊
What an absolutely charming place. Yorkshire has shocked me, to be honest. I haven't been to Leeds for probably over 2 decades, and the improvements they have made are vast! Harrogate has just topped it all off. As a Londoner, I am completely ashamed to say that in comparison, the centre of Leeds is far better and charming and miles cleaner than London. I am going within the next few weeks to both places, and if I like it that much, I may just start looking for property up here and look to retire in the North. Well done on the videos, and keep up the good work. God bless you.
Thank you so much for this. I lived in Harrogate between 1969 and 1971 as a boy. I never really appreciated what a lovely place it was at that age. Great to see that it still has loads of character and real shops. Shame that the indoor market is no longer there. I'd like to go back for a visit.
I grew up in Harrogate, then moved to Australia in 83, we have not been back for about 10 years and much seems to have changed. A comment on Betty's, I had a client in Perth WA who asked me where I came from and I said Harrogate, his immediate response was ahh the home of Betty's, when I asked him how he knew Betty's his response was if you are the the cafe business and you don't know Betty's then you are not doing your job very well. My first experience at Betty's was when I was 16 and I took my girlfriend there for a coffee, the staff ignored us, they probably thought we could not afford it. Been back heaps of times since and go to the one at Harlow Car next to the RHA Gardens (another place you could walk). Great tour keep up the good work.
Oh my god... I used to live in Harrogate for 3 years! You brought me some nice memories mate, thanks! I'd love to go and sit down at the valleys garden again
Lived in Harrogate for many years, and had a shop in the Westminster arcade. Still miss it as now living in Norfolk on the coast. Going to link this to my daughter who now lives in London and it will bring back many lovely memories
Been to Harrogate many times stayed in the Ascot House hotel wonderful When to Betty tea rooms for Jazz night and 4 course dinner and afternoon tea love love Harrogate
This was a great treat for me. I miss being there so very much. However i miss the way harrogate was back in the 70,s not sure about the modern version. My favorite stops were Standings for my wine, cheese and other tasty foods, the various butcher shops, green grocers, and maybe stopping at Betty's for a cuppa. Thanks for a lovely walk around town.
Harrogate is a nice town that has something to offer everyone. If I ever get the opportunity to visit, I would love to try Betty's Tea Room. Thank you for this fabulous walk tour and the detailed description.
I live in Harrogate (The Gateway To The Yorkshire Dale`s) and love the place, btw you referred to Station Parade as quite a busy street, it was a Bank Holiday, Station Parade is a VERY busy street and is the main (only) Southbound route through the town because our local council loves poorly thoughtout one way streets and pedestian only streets. Voted as best place to live in the UK several times, if only we had a competant council, then We would be voted best even more often. Still it is a lovely place to live, and so much to see on your doorstep.
@@Michelle-qd9gm Harrogate Town Centre is exactly 20 Miles from York City Centre. 30 Minute drive (A59) in favourable traffic and also 30 minutes by local train service. There is no longer a direct bus service as it cannot compete with the rail service. The town is definately worth a visit, lots of green open spaces, high end shopping (other shops are available), several Tea Rooms, Turkish baths, lots of classical architecture, the world famous Valley Gardens and RHS Harlow Carr Gardens , the list is endless. Hope you get to visit.
Yes it’s a wonderful place for a nice outing with family or friends and there is countless opportunities to have fun. Please come visit Harrogate sometime soon! I’m also living in Harrogate currently as I was also born in Harrogate
I used to love going to Harrogate. Thanks for bringing back lots of good memories. Spent lots of afternoons sitting near the cenotaph watching the queue for Bettys!
I didn't make it into Bettys (spelled without the ' , I've been informed, but I did sit on a bench outside, intrigued at the number of people willing to stand in a very long line outside waiting patiently to get in. I was staying in Knaresborough, and a short local stopping bus got me to Harrogate, four miles away. The train station and bus station are next to each other in Harrogate, making it easy to get to some of the surrounding towns and cities.
I was born in Harrogate so was my 2 eldest children we now live in Australia and to be honest the only thing I miss from there is my family who live in and around the Harrogate district. My grandma retired in 1982 she worked at Schofield aka hoopers my brother in law worked at Ogdens until the 90s both are no longer alive.
Delightful video. I was brought up in Harrogate. Left the town 30 years ago, to moved down south. It's exactly how I remember the place. Been meaning, to come back, and visit, for a long time. Will make it a priority this year... What ever happened to the indoor market, and Lowther arcade? Did it ever get reopen?
My grandads from Harrogate, organises the Christmas market in Yorkshire can’t remember the name 😂 recently moved to England myself shoot a video up in Leamington, Warwickshire💪🏻
Hello ... visiting in the summer. Would appreciate ideal places that are accessible as husband uses a scooter. Enjoyed your walk, a lot of places have accessible entrance so that's good. Can you suggest best places to park?
There are easy accessible multi storey car parks one attached to Victoria gardens a nice walk through under cover through the shopping centre plenty of lifts and also behind debenhams there's a carpark too town centre is a bit limited for parking some only have 20 minutes but there are many long stays hope this helps
Was thinking about going inti Harrogate as not been for while, but don’t need to bother now! Nice to see there are still the fools queuing for Bettys!🤣Enjoyed tour! Thanks! 🙏
You missed great areas like the pump rooms where there is still the eggy spa water to try and opposite the oldest still gaslit pub there's so much more to Harrogate
Don't you think that if your going to say town centre you should of gone in the town centre it self, they are hand full of shops in the main centre so please come & visit the shops there too
