Tha AGA architecture handles natively VGA modes, without external hardware. The only downside is it works only with OS screens, not with games bypassing it, for these a scandoubler is needed.
Back in the day if you had a multisync monitor you could use these types of resolutions with a standard A1200. I mainly used Double PAL which was a flicker free 640x512
Can you install picasso96 on an ECS amiga A500 with 2MB CHIP or an A1200 and create modes that will get some software to run that normally requires an RTG card? Or would it be very difficult to ever get that to work since since native modes were planer and RTG modes were chunky? However, say like just to get some software to run, a picasso96 mode could be like a wrapper to display 8bit graphics with just the first 4 significant bits that would make it look like EGA graphics? Or like say for Quake there is a really cool HAM mode that looks just awesome and totally way faster than the Half-Bright mode for DOOM.
I believe there is such a possibility, but if I remember correctly a MMU is required? Read somewhere it was possible on A1200 with MMU. But not so on A500
The Indivison AGA MK3 is such a nice device. i run my A1200 Workbench in 1024 x 768 and 16 Colours - runs rock solid. Imagine that would have been possible in the 90's :D Then the amiga could have been a game changer in office matters.
Those screen modes do not require a video card/Indivision under AGA. As long has you had a multisync monitor all those mode would work. All the Indivision card is doing here is changing the screen frequency so that it can be displayed on a modern screen, that does not have the full frequency response.
@@f1lupo When I had a multisync the very hires modes caused a bit of fringing (before modification) however there is a program (forgot the name) that allows you to modify the monitor frequency/timing and that cleared it up. Interlace flicker will depend on the monitor and your own sensitivity. I personally found lower contrast or background pictures that avoided straight lines worked best.
Correct. I should’ve made that more clear. AGA Amigas have the graphics speed to push those RTG like modes all on their own. The MKIII is only a flicker fixer but its a very good one with settings you can adjust to maximize the quality.
You could have a step by step to install a Retina BLZ3, I have one and I could never make it work properly, I am doing something wrong and I could never see the WB on it. Thanks
I don’t have that card. I have an original Retina card. The best easiest way to install it is to buy P96 drivers and then it’s an easy install. I have a video I did on how to install the Retina card. Check/search my channel. Thanks!
My 17" Samsung SyncMaster 930B on my A4000 won't sync to any of the modes with the A2320 Amber board. I played with some buttons to try to get it to sync and nuthin. Now it won't work at all, it just says "Check Signal Cable". I have to try another monitor on it. RGB still works normally. I hope it didn't fry the 2320 board!
@jameshenry8015 interesting. It should work with all modes up to ECS. It won’t do AGA modes. If it’s not doing even the ECS modes, it may be due to age. Could have some out of spec parts.
I hooked up an old CTX flat panel and it works so the Samsung must have taken a hit. The new modes don't work on it either. Boy it really flips out the RGB CRT monitor. I really need to find my Cybervision board.
@@HoldandModify It won't work through the Amber board, normally or with pass-through. I tried in 4 colors and 16 colors, just get a blank screen or a nag that the scan rate is not supported. C'est la vie.

I wish those old Samsung multisync monitors survived. I never see any anymore. :(
I have been running my Workbench in 1280x720 with the original Indivision and I love it, I can fit so many programs on screen at once.
are you using 16:9 ratio ???
They work with the Mk 2 as well. I know, I do it myself.
links for monitor setups please👍
@@f1lupo Yeah .. what they said !!! Got a MK2 and not looking anywhere near that good

will definitely try them on my my multisync monitor 👍

Does that mean that there's a way to get this to work at 800x600 in WinUAE?
So, this is a standard A1200 without a graphics card. That’s pretty amazing.
Yeah it's pretty wild. All possible way back then too, but just didn't think about it.
I've the mk3 version ... any possibility to run workbench 16:9 ???
I wouldn't have believed that this is possible on a stock Amiga! Wonderful!
Yeah i was surprised too!

Is there a way to get Lightwave full version these days?
www.lightwave3d.com
You can do pixel perfect scaling with the MK3, no need for those artifacts.
That’s what I’m still trying to figure out how to do. It’s a true challenge trying to learn its ways.
@@HoldandModify It's a great device, but the documentation is really bad! It's written for someone who already understands how it works.
@@MrClump exactly. Really wish someone could do a wiki for it explaining how to use it in more normal terms. They might sell more too. Heh.
