Okay, it’s theory time!
Let’s talk about the title first: 心海. I’m not Japanese and don’t understand Japanese, but I’m Chinese and some Japanese words are the same or are very similar to Chinese words, just like in this case. In Chinese, 心 means heart and 海 means ocean. I also saw from another comment that 心海 (pronounced shinkai in Japanese) and *深海 (also pronounced shinkai in Japanese) sound the same, so there’s definitely a connection between the two (which I’ll talk about later :D )
At the start of video, the girl with aquamarine hair appears in a white shirt with an orange mark with a word (I think it was 黑, which means black in Chinese)we also see an orange heart on the left side of her. The orange heart symbolises the passion she has in her heart.
The fact that there was a word “黑” (black) on her shirt and also how she looked at a map with an orange and a purple line at 0:59, which I’m thinking is a train map since there was a purple train on the purple line, as well as how the orange and purple lines intersect one another makes me think that the girl with aquamarine hair was looking for the girl which was wearing dark blue and had her hair dark blue as well. Oh, and also how she tries to get to her throughout the video :p
I’m pretty sure the two girls are actually two different sides of the girl instead of actually being two different people, with the fact that they look pretty much the same. Why is the aquamarine-haired girl looking for the girl with dark blue hair? To me, this looks like the girl going to confront herself, to face her fears. Or it could also be interpreted as the girl trying to get herself together and get her life back together, the city ruins that are seen at different parts of the video representing her life.
In the chorus, we see one of Aquamarine girl’s attempts to reach out to dark blue haired girl. We see aquamarine’s heart pump faster and larger(sort of). As aquamarine runs to the train where dark blue is in, we see the water waves around her grow larger. These water waves represent her hope towards reaching out to dark blue. As said before, both Aquamarine and Dark Blue are part of the girl. So therefore why Aquamarine fell at the end was probably because dark blue was scared/sad/depressed (not sure which one it is, but it’s one of the three).
Now, we see things from Dark Blue’s point of view in the train. From the lyrics, I’m seeing something like Dark Blue talking about how there’s nothing, no thought going on in her head as she flows in the outside world, how she got dizzy from the yellow sunshine at the outside world, and that she thinks on and on in the outside world, her thoughts flowing in the sea of her brain. (Okay the thinking and her thoughts part was what I think of the lyrics mixed with a bit of my interpretations)
We’re back on Aquamarine’s side, and in here she starts to lose hope, thinking that tomorrow will just be empty. It starts to rain and the whole atmosphere on her side is dark and gloomy. The raindrops start to turn into a dark ocean (which will be mentioned next para). On Dark Blue’s end though, she starts to think about something related to dreams and starts to gain hope.
Then BOOM the ducksplosion happens, which leads to the city going in ruins D:D We have different things happening to the two girls. On one hand, Dark Blue seems to be moving/escaping the train as the speed goes up at 2:58. Aquamarine on the other hand, is watching her world get destroyed by the ducksplosion.
The ducksplosion was set to action by both of the girls, because Dark Blue could’ve caused this by using the train and Aquamarine’s doubt affected the 心海 (which is actually the city), which led to the city being destroyed.
Aquamarine’s orange heart turned into a frenzy due to the doubt and then popped/vanished. Aquamarine fall into a dark ocean. This dark ocean and any sort of dark coloured liquid represents negativity and doubt. So basically she started doubting her ability to get to Dark Blue and get herself back together. Then, *a light* suddenly appears, and she gets hope again. Jumping with motivation, she gets herself together (herself as in Aquamarine only and not Aquamarine + Dark Blue) with more hope than she ever had. Her 心海 turns back to normal.
Once she gets back on her feet with her furry friend (big fat white cat), she sets off with no hesitation to find Dark Blue. We see Dark Blue again, but she has some grey thing inside her. This grey thing disappears literally a few seconds after we see it (lol). This grey thing in Dark Blue represented her negativity fear to face the world.
Then, Aquamarine’s cat decided too YEET her to Dark Blue. Aquamarine and Dark Blue are together now, and Aquamarine’s orange heart is back. We’ve reached the last part of the story now! We see Aquamarine and Dark Blue walking together, Aquamarine’s cat and the city, which actually seems to be rebuilt! This probably means the girls got their life back together, together :D

**The light literally represents “a ray of hope”
How did I not talk about the cat-
Now that I look at other theories (this whole section about the cat is an edit so it’s in the future not when I first made this), the cat seems to represent comforting thoughts! That’s why it’s so small (a plushie) in the train with Dark Blue, because Dark Blue was thinking about unencouraging thoughts, therefore not focusing on the cat. It’s also why it’s so big on Aquamarine’s side, because she constantly reminds herself of the comforting memories (just my guess) which makes it bigger, and forming it to be a large part of her. It makes sense, since it just yeeted her to Dark Blue. It’s like getting pushed by motivation to do something :)
Usually I don’t make theories because I already see so many of them, but now it’s kind of just turned into a stale puddle of overused “Eve destroying the city” jokes and barely few comments talking about the art. As for theory, I also see comments on it but only when I dig deeper. This is a first for me and it’s also really sad too, because JUST ON HIS LAST VIDEO Eve mentioned that he loved to see how different people interpreted his songs...

oh man I appreciate your thoughts (and definitely the lyric interpretation since I don't know Japanese) I had a lot of the same ideas as you and it's nice to see other aspects too. for the cat the artist name them Neko-sama and it's a zingai and a nice one! so most likely heart form/alter ego instead of shadow zingai. I think cats a generally a nice companion, i think a lot people go to cats for comfort and love, like how the girl tries to reach out to the other girl.
Also the letter on her arm looks more like Eve language (eve invented a language) it looks like the letter E for Eve

Personal theory: I think that the girl with the green hair fell in love with the girl with black hair 1:19 as seen by the heart being created. She wanted to reach out, but the black-haired girl wouldn't take her hand because she is still struggling with her own feelings of depression and that's why the green-haired girl was pushed away by the water 1:23 Even though the green-haired girl was pushed away, she gets back up and chases after the train that the black-haired girl is on 1:38, which shows that she is out of her reach and that the black-haired girl is running away from maybe another relationship that would only further to hurt her heart 2:42 I think how the city slowly filled up with water shows all of her grief and sadness, that it has slowly become her (black-haired girl's) whole world. And the green-haired girl feels conflicted after the rejection she suffered earlier 2:54 so she sinks into her own little slump as seen in 3:10 But she doesn't give up hope, which is the beam of light we see in the darkness. And when her chest explodes 3:29 maybe those are the feelings that she can't suppress and they are overflowing so she decides to keep chasing after the black-haired girl. The world also turns bright with flower petals 3:31 which could be related to love, because she is seeing her world in a much better light than before. At the end, the green-haired girl manages to save the black-haired girl before her heart drips away 3:50, which could symbolize that the black-haired girl was close to giving up on love. The green-haired girl accepted her even though she saw the state she was in (broken city) and still pursued her even after being rejected (train scene) and in the end, their love bloomed, hence the city being covered in flowers and trees at the end 4:11

So the 2 main theories are the interpersonal theory and the love theory. While I feel like it could be either I think that the girls are different sides to the same person. I think it means that we should get in touch with our negative emotions (seen by aquamarine trying to reach black), and if we encorporate the love part, try to embrace them instead of hiding from them. It’s probably about loving all the sides of yourself and getting your emotions to connect instead of dismissing all negative thoughts. (Further shown by the crossing train paths)
The water I think represents her other feelings which kinda overwhelm her and drown her
From what I’ve read the rubber duck symbolises innocence and childhood so if we add that in it maybe means that as we grow we lose our childishness and try to bury our negativity (shown when the ducks are all over the floor + the cat toy breaks) As for the cat i think it could be a different thing for different people but it’s that one thing/person that gives you courage and helps you through hard times.
Lastly I also see the theory that the black girl is the real/grown up version of the girl and the aquamarine one is her inner child i think that works too because of the way the cat is portrayed in the train (as a toy) and in aquamarine’s world (as a friend)

Black is depression, white is happiness, I don't know Japanese but I know chinese and in chinese that means the sea of your heart, so the flood of water and whale is explained. The duck because of water and you usually see a duck in bath tubs. Faceless cat I don't know. This is most likely the heart of a teenager with depression riding the train to your mind, as happiness gets further away from you. The reddish dot on their chest symbolizes their stability, if you saw, the black girls one kept falling apart and the white girl one was mostly together. When the depression reached the lowest point, the world started falling apart but happiness triumphed in the end
