Herbert Blomstedt spoke with Cleveland Orchestra musicians in October of 2010 about his career and hearing the Orchestra on the radio as a child. Blomstedt will be conducting The Cleveland Orchestra Feb. 27-29.

"Pride that is paired with humility" reminds me of a phrase that's often been used to describe The Cleveland Orchestra: anonymous unanimity - so apt for our wonderful musicians. :-)

Enjoyed them at Carnegie Hall a few years ago, what a sound, what a disciplined and balanced dynamism in the playing. A truly superb orchestra, in fact one of the few American orchestras that can be said to belong to the world's very best. And, of course, such a great recording tradition going back to George Szell, Lorin Maazel and Christoph von Dohnanyi. I hope people in Ohio are aware of the fact that among other things they possess a world-class symphonic ensemble of immense distinction. Something to be proud of!

I heard the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra in the late 70's or early 80's do one called "Space Gates". Been desperately trying to find a recording of it. Any help appreciated.
