Bill I’m 69 and you are dead on about how cars were a source of freedom for us back in the day. The biggest day of our young lives was the day we got our drivers license. To be able to get away from our parents house (and siblings) and go out on our own was something special. And cars were another thing for us. They were how we connected with our friends. We didn’t have the internet or social media. There were only two ways to connect with peers (outside of at school) back then. The telephone or in person. I get that cars are just not very important to young people today. They have so many new ways to connect. Thanks for the trip down memory lane today.

    • @scottborkowski2411
      @scottborkowski2411 14 днів тому +7

Im 54 and couldnt wait to get my license it was a right of passage first our yard, then the sidewalk to the end of the block either north of east of our house, then bicycle and north end of town, then whole town, moped = greater range, and finally a car greater range and freedom for the tyranny of my dad. Kids today dont seem to really give a crap about that freedom no drive or thirst for it just happy to sit in the parents basement and text their friends. Sad world.

I'm 78 and everything you say was how it was for us in small town Oregon the early 1960's. The movie American Graffiti was how it was for us too. Friday and Saturday nights spent 'Drag'n tha Gut' up and down the main streets looking to see who was parked at closed for the day gas stations and grocery stores (even though gas was $.20 a gallon we didn't have a lot to spare), pulling in to shoot tha sh*t with whomever was there and watch to see who else was doing the same.

I’m only 38 and same. I grew up in a rural area and 5 miles from town. No internet. Had a phone but my parents didn’t let us use it very much. The day we could drive was a huge deal we looked forward to for years. I’ve often felt bothered that younger people don’t have the car bug but never really thought of it this way. They’re able to connect anyone, anytime, anywhere with an internet connection so cars are just a thing to them. Huh

Bill, I am 70 years old and owned a 1968 Biscayne. It was an original 427/425HP, 4 speed, 4.56 posi with a police suspension under it. It had no options when it was ordered. When I got it had a 283, three speed and 3.73. It was the best tow vehicle I ever owned. It ran 15s. That trunk was so huge, you could sleep in it or take whatever tools you needed. Also plenty of room inside also. I agree with you that it would be a great starter drag and drive car. I loved the sleeper look it had. I put Chevy stock rallye wheels on it. I am so glad you have found the love of Drag and Drive. I remember seeing Tony and Tess at Rocky Mountain Race Week in 2023 and told Tess if you can just get Bill to a Drag and Drive he will love it and find a way to do one. I was so glad to get to talk with you at Drag Week this year at National Trails and at the Christmas Tree Race, I am the YooHoo guy. Continue doing what you are doing and for the reasons that you do it because God will continue to bless you. I will be at Sick Week this year and hope to be able to talk with you again.

You’re absolutely about hot rodding in general, and your feeling on drag n’ drive excitement is widely shared. Sick week has personally reinvigorated my interest in drag racing as well as my dad’s. We’re working hard trying to get our cars (64 Chevelle and 72 Monte Carlo) ready to do a drag n’ drive event together someday after many years of disinterest in the drag racing scene. I think a lot of families have the desire to participate and would get really excited about a drag n’ drive focused giveaway no matter what car it is!

I have always wanted to find a decent ‘68 2 door but the prices for a good one have just gone crazy. My buddy found one a few years ago with the original big block and it’s actually the same color as this and I’ve been drooling over it for a few years now so this would be a real treat and I’ll probably bankrupt myself trying to win but at least I’ll have a lifetime supply of hoodies when I lose, lol 😂, but seriously tho, that is one gorgeous car!

Luggage goes in the back seat. Plenty of room for a navigator up front.

Bill, I'm in on the Biscayne for sure. I have a sentimental soft spot for those cars and I'dlove to have this one. My only suggestion would be to let the winner make the choice on changes like wheels, intake, etc. I don't mind the mechanical changes so much as I know it's performance related, but I would personally prefer the paint matched steel wheels on the car. Yes, I realize I'm probably the minority vote there lol. The only thing that could make it better is if it was a 66!

I came home from Vietnam and didn't want to drive my 69 SS Camaro in the Michigan winter.
    So I found a 68 4 door Biscayne and installed a 427 and turbo 400.
We street raced it all winter and made enough money to buy a new 75 Camaro.
Pull the trigger on the car and I'll participate in your giveaway.
    Good luck.

I think that car is just too nice to alter. I would like to see you do up an 80s Cutlas or something along that line where you can get a little crazy with it.
But it is your money and time after all and support will always be there. Stay safe.

Love my gbody cars eventually I'll have me another one but maybe not a 80's Oldsmobile cutlass that stung a bit trying to hold onto that car for so long only for it to get totalled

I think you need a giveaway Malibu just like your car. Nothing about that biscain says drag and drive. It says Sunday dinner with the grandkids. And that’s your mind set right now.

To find an unmolested 1968 Chevy is rare. Although somewhat massaged, love the color. If you're going to flip a car, that's the one. Then build another Malibu like a matching wagon. Anyway your going to step up to own it, but your grandson will love going for ice cream with his pop pop. Peace

    Couple of things.
First that little Wyatt is so cute, I broke out in laughter seeing him wear a Gen 2 Garage knit hat.
He is beautiful and so happy all the time.
Second Mark and Uncle Terry together doesn't hardly get better than that.
    Two great guys.
    Third, Biscayne YES!
However leave the steel wheels on it with the dog dish hub caps.
Looks mean as hell that way.
Fourth Thanks for the flash back to the snow clearing origins.
Take Care, be safe at SICK WEEK!

Love it! I had a S/S 65 Impala 327/glide combo. Do it! Do a 454/ overdrive automatic capable of a 200 nitrous hit, it'll be a absolute winner. I'll be in on that! Dang, I take it back! Too clean!

The Biscaynes were the ultimate sleeper. Back when I was a kid running my '69 Nova , my friend picked up a beautiful ''68 Biscayne with a factory 427 and 4 speed, black on black. What an awesome car that was. If the price is right, pull that trigger young fella.

Very nice 68. I could see you enjoying it. Only thing better at least to me would have been if it had a 427 425 horse l72 with a 4 speed.

I think the Biscayne will have tons of support. It’s big, heavy, stable car. Which is great for entry level drivers. It’s not gonna be crazy fast which is the point. Put some sticky tires in the trunk, swap them at the track make some rips and hit the street. Later if the winner wants to do a big block and cage for like an 9.50 or 8.50 certificate even it’s great for that. I’ll definitely buy of merch to try and win it. Odds are won’t win but I really enjoy supporting your family. I’m not a rich man but I love supporting the people I trust on social media. Thanks Bill.

It's awesome Mark was able to go with you and hang out with Uncle Terry, but also get his clutch. It's sad that the parts guy business is dwindling down. I'd bet to say you already bought the Biscayne. It'll do great as a give away!

That is a nice car for sure. No idea what the price would be, but I think something cheaper and rougher would be a better chance for you to at least break even. It wouldn't need much to be a good ride. That 66-67 blue Nova you had for a little while would have been my choice. I think you need to get caught up with what is on your plate currently before taking on a whole new build to prevent the stress of a new deadline to meet. Whatever you choose to do I will be onboard with. Good luck!
