- Now that the Seiko SKX range has been discontinued is it a watch that we should still be buying?
Are they still a watch worth the price that they are now demanding?
Does it deserve a place in your collection?

Last December, I bought an 2018 SKX007 for 260USD. At the time, that was a low price for a near mint watch. Having viewed too many UA-cam vids saying how obsolete and inferior it was, I was surprised how good looking it actually is. I wear it on NATO straps and it is so comfortable, I can wear it all day. If you can find one at a reasonable price, go for it.
Absolutely. It is still one of the most comfortable watch in my collection to wear.
SKX's are classic - price is relevant for all watches. Question is, What do you value and what are you willing to pay for a watch. I own both SKX 007 and 009. Love both of them. Great perspective on these watches. Take care.

I was gifted a SKX009 about four years ago and this year purchased a brand new old stock SKX011J1 Orange 🍊 boy from creation watches for a little under $500 . I think if you can buy a SKX get one . To me one of the best Seiko’s ever made.
They remain an incredible watch.
It's a really beautiful, down to earth watch and it wears absolitely amazing. For a collector, it's a cheap keeper. For daily use, it definetly is a bargain and fits every thinkable situation or dress.
The 7s26 is a tank and will run for a lot of years. I don't think about servicing it as long as it runs properly.
It is amazing how well it fits on wrist. So comfortable and just a great watch.

As of today 4/30/22 I see you can still pick up a brand new K version SKX009 from Creation Watches for $380 after 5% coupon. If I didn't already own the 007J and 009J I'd be jumping on an offer like that, while there's still stock left. They also have J models of both watches available for higher prices, of course. Over the past 5-6 years I've owned and flipped a lot of watches and now my collection is down to only about 6 automatics. After owning Tudors, Omega, an SRP143, several other Prospex models and many other brands - I honestly think I get the most enjoyment and satisfaction from wearing my two SKXs.
edit: That's $380 USD btw.
They are amazing watches to have on wrist.

To me. The SKX might be the greatest dive watch of all time. I know they are rudimentary. But they do the job they are supposed to do so well. I would never go diving with a $10-20k submariner. I only wish Seiko would reissue the 009/007 with a NH movement and ISO rated.
It would be amazing if they re released it.

I’ve seen some on eBay, and they range from 3 to 800 dollars Canadian, some of which definitely appear to be fakes and they are selling for upwards of 500 (the fakes that is). I’m quite happy with the Islander 19 that I got Marc’s version of the 009, upgraded everything with that watch and the iconic look and feel of the original, but how nice it is for you to have the original! Great video as always m8 and your so close to 1000!!
It’s amazing how the prices have jumped.
It is also concerning about fakes. It would be upsetting to have one of those arrive in the mail.

February 2024, I bought a used SKX009J1 in mint condition with an original jubilee bracelet and an unused original rubber strap. 450€. Fairly good price I think.

I wear one daily does everything a watch needs to do, took it in all sorts of water, very bulletproof.
It is an amazing watch. Such a nice feel on wrist.
I bought my sone a 009 in 2002. He has not gotten it serviced yet and it's running strong!

Thanks for the video James. I will he buying a new old stock 009 soon. I have owned two 007s and two 009s and always sold. This new one stays in the collection. Also want a samurai Pepsi. Damn! This hobby is expensive. 😂

I think prices are a bit much for these on the used market, I mean yeah they're iconic but it gets to a point where the value buy stops and I think these have reached it. Still an amazing watch though and grats on the new addition.
Absolutely. They are great. But at the moment they can be over priced.
But if you can get one at a great price then it’s worth it.
Just get an SRPD. Almost identical case so comfort of wearing should be the same. You get an upgraded movement and the display back and you probably pay half of the price or even less. People feel emotional about the SKX cause it was such an iconic watch but if you’re just getting into watch collecting I think this is probably not enough reason to pay the additional prize.
I love this amazing timepiece! I own SKX009J! And man it’s an amazing timepiece, beautiful timepiece!
It just sits so well on wrist, looks great and can be used in most occasions.

If it’s working and keeps time don’t waste money 💰 on services. Got one in about 07 and it’s fine , not worn continuous but a lot .

I bought mine skx009 around fall 2018. I regret not getting a skx013 too at the time.

I bought both the 007 009 for about 160 each 7 years ago they still working great
The perfect time to buy them.
They are amazing watches and still one of the most comfortable on wrist experience I’ve had.
The S726 shouldn't need a service after 5yrs, there are numerous reports of this movement running well after more than 20yrs continuous use!
That’s one of the great things about seikos.

I have one and love it! But my bezel action is horrible! I got a bad one in that regards but everything else is perfect from the accuracy to the line up of the bezel and markers.
Shame about the bezel but it still remains an amazing watch
@@WATCHingJames Yes it is! Despite the criticisms, overall, Seiko got this one right. Not accomplished often!
I always found it fascinating that you could make the watch go backwards with a little tension on the crown in the opposite direction. Lack of winding, hacking features never bothered me. The weight of the watch, however, always did.
I do find the lack of hand winding a little annoying. If it was my everyday watch it would not concern me at all. But because it is part of a rotation it constantly stops.
But it does not stop me enjoying it.
The iconic SKX. Is it still viable in 2022?
I've bought a SKX007K but the diver's 200m is written in yellow I've opened up the case back and it does have seiko time Corp 7s26A on the movement but seiko no where else on the movement and the movement looks quite scratched up aswell I've been told the skx the diver's 200m only comes in red or orange I've contacted e.bay and I can send it bk for a refund could you tell me what you think have I bought a fake.
@@jerichowatches1 nothing wrong with a good fake. Sometimes I put an Angus Jubilee on my SLA 021 and pretend it's an Skx that had too many cheeseburgers.
Just ordered one from Creation watches, the made in Japan model.

@@WATCHingJames i know haha . i got modified version of the SKX007 with an updated movement and saphire glas + ceramic bezel with the same lume as the dial.. for 480€ which is pretty fine.. more value than the new 2022 seiko 5 gmt ( they have mineral glas and bezel)

I never thought that they were worth the money in the first place due to the lack of hand winding and hacking. Nothing has made me change my mind…especially at today’s inflated prices. It is just a collector’s item because of all of the hype and the fact that it is now out of production. One can buy far better watches for the money…and that has always been the case IMHO.
With the inflated prices it is hard to argue that it’s better than a lot of other always he’s available.
I still love it and it is so comfortable.
But completely understand why people will not be buying them.

The SKX isn't worth it for me.
I prefer the turtle.
The turtle is great as well. My favourite is probably the Samurai but I’ve recently been looking at the MM200.
The SKX is trash. I seriously don't understand why the SKX is popular. Bulky, thick, oversized and over-priced. It has the dictionary meaning of tinny garbage bracelet... and to top it off, the brilliant 7s26 NON-hacking and handwindable movement 🤢🤮

@@ers-ve2mx Hangin' with the "big boys" from Switzerland is must be what they're trying to do! With their prices heading that way... but too bad their quality isn't going that way with them.
PS - I don't own a single Citizen, but I do own three Seiko's with one of them, (SARB065) being my favourite watch of my whole collection. I still have to call out their garbage when I see it.
