If this is the real actual Billy Zoom, you're one of my favourite guitarists. In 1980, I spent hours and hours listening to nothing but X, and [maybe weirdly] everything I could find by Richard Thompson.
@Billy Zoom - The response to this lesson is total validation of all your band and you have done and accomplished. Love your playing and the band’s songs!!
Billy Zoom is one the greatest and most underrated guitar heroes in rock and roll and it’s no surprise to me that his stuff is right up your alley. So many tracks I’d love to see you do: Beyond & Back, Hot House, Come Back to Me, We’re Desperate, Blue Spark, The Unheard Music, Adult Books, Poor Girl, Sex and Dying, The Have Nots, and even the stripped down live version of Burning House of Love from the Unclogged live album. Always look forward to your videos and, as you say, it’s not exactly a saturated market for X guitar lessons. Thanks again!
It was 1978 or so...I was 13 years old living in Orange County. Some punker friends of my older brother we drove to Hollywood to hang out. We were near Hollywood blvd. and Vine st and were approached by a guy who said a band was practicing in a space nearby would we like to come. We walked a bit and entered a small space. First time I heard the band X.
Billy Zoom is a underrated guitar master - one of my favorite guitarists. Please consider doing a guitar lesson for X's Devil Doll. That's fairly considerably more advanced bit of guitaring, but it's one of their best songs and Billy's playing on it is iconic.
Fantastic. Love X. Years ago, when Ebay was new, someone over at Slash Records was selling all of their production art for their CD packaging and I bought the photo prints for the layouts for the X double CD (Wild Gift/Los Angeles) and the interior CD spread for their side project "The Knitters".
Damn...my favorite UA-cam guitar teacher and my favorite X song...and of course, you knocked it out of the park Adrian. Thanks for continually providing great content!
One of my all time faves...thank you! Grew up listening to this on KROQ 106.7 in LA. Saw X live a number of times in the early 80s. I vote for Los Angeles or Burning House of Love next!
Yes Adrian!! Glad to see you're checking out X, huge long time fan here - I'll be diving into this one right away. BTW, I messaged you a while back about X and suggested The Have Nots if you do come back to them. It's got a great rhythm riff and an iconic Zoom solo. X trivia: Billy Zoom's father gigged with Django, and DJ Bonebrake, X's superb drummer, is a multi-instrumentalist. Personal trivia: in 1979 I carried John Doe's bass in to a gig in an apartment basement.
Grew up in Los Angeles during the 80’s, great bands and awesome gigs ! 7th grade and sneaking out to Hollywood on school nights , under age to see X !“ But what about the Minuteman, Flesh eaters , DOA Big Boys, Black flag….Please bring the flag !
Nice lesson . I saw X many years ago and then I saw them again last year in Vancouver. Billy Zoom is an excellent guitarist. His guitar work on Beyond and Back is definitely rockabilly inspired.
LOVE THIS!!! Your song choices never cease to amaze me! Can you please do their song "Adult Books"? Great rockabilly guitar work in that song. Also love "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes". I always wondered if Johnny Marr listened to X because the opening riff to This Charming Man sounds so much like Dancing With Tears In My Eyes.
Fantastic just absolutely fantastic. First guitar lesson I decided to subscribe. I have seen billy Zoom and X play many times and cannot thank you enough for the amazing break down of how to play this song. Hope all is well.
First, I can't believe how long this has been up without me watching it, yesterday was a busy, busy day. Before making this comment I went to listen to the song, not because I doubted your breakdown but X is a punk band that I had never heard of. I am happy to report that I really liked it and will be diving in deeper, thanks for the introduction. Back in the eighties I used that sharpened 5th on the b string in a barre chord quite a few times in my song writing. I wouldn't have known then that it was a sharpened 5th or a part augmented, it just sounded nasty and I loved it. Once again Adrian, thankyou. 😎🎙🎸✅
Thanks for turning us on to this gold nugget from the music history archives. X came around slightly before my time, but I am loving this tune and exploring their other stuff too. Excellent find.
Great video Adrean, really like that tune, and that Vox, I have the same one and absolutely love it along with my Gretsch Synchromatic Black Sparkle Jet. Two of my faves.. now to learn those chops..... Thanks so much.
Great choice as my user name is based on the band X. Billy put so many different styles into their songs. Would love to see The Have Nots, Devil Doll it really anything by X. Keep up the great lessons on all the artist you do!
Good job, and on the backing track too- I hear you faithfully reproduced DJ's drum rolls. Great reproduction of his guitar tone. Yes indeed, more X please! Ones with solos... Johnny Hit and Run Pauline, Devil Doll. Someone else suggested The Have Nots.
Thanks for introducing me to this band! I've been getting more into punk now than ever before. I would like to suggest a lesson on some At the Drive-in or Mars Volta. There's a severe shortage of guitar lessons from these bands on UA-cam. I think Omar is underrated.
White Girl is an astounding song from a great band. First saw X in 1986 and saw the legendary 1987 show with fIREHOSE, Jerry Lee Lewis (Brian Setzer playing with Jerry Lee) and X. Tony Gilkyson was playing with X at that time, and he was a hell of a player. You should check out the music of fIREHOSE. Flea dedicated Blood Sugar Sex Magic to the bass player from fIREHOSE (Mike Watt).
Your wonderful.... I was living in Tucson-with a white girl..1981... Jennele says X is playing in a bar that my freinds built... I remember them building it ...but I can't remember the bars name at this time.....Juan a bricklayer was fired for drinking on the job....his brothers and nephew finished it Near Romero Dr...& Flowing wells... It is still standing X played amazing...not like some of the dunken slop rock played at the Night Train I fell for Xene...i wish i could spell I was 3 feet from Xene...Billy Z to the left...John Doe to the right Looking at the brickwork behind the drummer....you could see Juan's handiwork while loaded....straight for the most part then a little crooked Just like my life at the time... But i was living with a white girl....
Wow. Yesterday I was going to ask you if you would do a lesson on their cover of 'Breathless' by Jerry Lee Lewis but I couldn't get my email through! Thanks for a great lesson.
Hello Adrian, May I suggest the X songs "Beyond and Back" and "Johnny Hit and Run Pauline" as future lessons. Both showcase Billy Zoom's rockabilly style and would make a nice addition to the existing X lessons which are a different style. I find you to be an excellent teacher, giving adequate detail without drowning the student in minutiae or ad infinitum! Great job!
Sadly, there's not many X guitar lessons on UA-cam; The Have Nots, Adult Books, I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts, The world's a mess it's in my kiss, Los Angeles, would be other great ones to do.
Such a fun song to play! Thanks. I’ve been a big fan of X for a long time. By the way, there is a great video of John Doe posted by fender a few months ago that’s worth watching.
Thanks, Adrian good exercise for stretching I have an idea for an easy one Theme for something really important, Duane Eddy The late Jet Harris always played it. I would love to be able to pay it
You're the only one who's gotten it right....even the G aug.! I'm impressed.
If this is the real actual Billy Zoom, you're one of my favourite guitarists. In 1980, I spent hours and hours listening to nothing but X, and [maybe weirdly] everything I could find by Richard Thompson.
Although in retrospect, it was probably 1981.
There you have it. Proof positive that this is the best guitar channel on UA-cam!
@Billy Zoom - The response to this lesson is total validation of all your band and you have done and accomplished. Love your playing and the band’s songs!!
Thanks for the music Billy, if this is the real Zoom - nice to see you here!

Oh man! More X please!!!! Thanks for this one! Wish I could give you 100 thumbs ups for this one! 👍
Another great choice Adrian! Any Pavement song would be awesome!
Pavement would be cool
I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts is another great song from X. Main chord progression based around Emaj to D7 with nice licks played by Zoom.
Seconded!
Thirded!
4th
Fif
Amazing! X is my favorite punk band ever, fuck it, my top 10 any genre. Massively underrated.
X was *THE* LA punk band... alongside The Germs and Black Flag of course. Anyway, great choice.
For real! I was about to say that I love how everyone always introduces them as "LA Punk Band 'X'". They make me a proud Angelino
i know exene, she lives in orange county. my moms friend is good friends with her and the people from the blasters
What do you think about doing a lesson on Echo and the Bunnymen - Show of strength?
It was 1978 or so...I was 13 years old living in Orange County. Some punker friends of my older brother we drove to Hollywood to hang out. Thank you for this lesson. The Buzzcocks deserve your interest. UK punk 🧷🇬🇧

Welcome to X -- I have been listening to them for a long time and I still enjoy them. The first four records are amazing.
Damn...my favorite UA-cam guitar teacher and my favorite X song...and of course, you knocked it out of the park Adrian. Thanks for continually providing great content!
You rock man! I discovered your channel only a few days ago, and I consider you one of the best teachers on UA-cam. Keep rockin' it!
One of my all time faves...thank you! Grew up listening to this on KROQ 106.7 in LA. Saw X live a number of times in the early 80s. I vote for Los Angeles or Burning House of Love next!
Awesome! X are America's greatest band ever!

Gawd, when Billy left X for a while , just was not the same! Nobody could replace zoom!
Love X! More More More! How about 'I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts' 'Los Angeles' 'The New World'
Sugarlight guitar solo for the win. Play Sugarlight top to bottom, it's rock n' roll respite that will tear away anything getting you down.
Yes! More X! More Billy Zoom. Anything from the first album would be great!
Great lesson Adrian. John Doe and Exene are amazing. And Billy as well. Iconic here in the states.
Thanks for breaking that down. Love Billy Zoom
Thank you! Great stuff. Eno's "Needle in the Camel's Eye" would be a good one!
great suggerstion!
More X, please!

Awesome lesson!- Keep the X coming. Maybe some more early Dead Kennedy's while you're at it :)
Greetings from Houston Texas USA. Great job as always. Thank you for all the wonderful lessons!!!
The Have Nots or Adult Books by X would be awesome.
Or Los Angeles
another great song choice....johnny hit and run pauline or hungry wolf are another couple songs you couple tackle!
Awesome X Lesson = New Patreon Member. Thanks for this!
YES!!!!! Thank You!!!! More Billy Zoom please
Wow, that was a blast from the past. Another nice pick for Friday.
Great band, saw them in the 80's,I was very influenced as a young lad,Cheers
Thanks for turning us on to this gold nugget from the music history archives. X came around slightly before my time, but I am loving this tune and exploring their other stuff too. Excellent find.
More X. My old art school pals.
Great video Adrean, really like that tune, and that Vox, I have the same one and absolutely love it along with my Gretsch Synchromatic Black Sparkle Jet. Two of my faves.. now to learn those chops..... Thanks so much.
beautiful guitar
Excellent video as always! X is one of my favorite bands of all time.
Have seen them many times growing up in LA. More Billy Zoom please!!!
Not enough X lessons about. Thanks :)
When you said you’d be putting out your first XVideo, I was not expecting a guitar to be involved
More. More. More. Please! X is fab!

Yes!
Break down Billy’s smokin’ solo on their cover of “Breathless”!
Memories. Back in the dsy, the band i was in opened for X at a gig. What a riot
What was that like?
@@adamjg4 it was a riot. Lots of fun
@@billribas Did you get to meet and talk to them?
@@adamjg4 I don't recall, i was a bit on the shy side and young, so i would say no. Fun night though

Great choice, nice work.
If you're planning to do more X, I'm going to request Dancing With Tears in My Eyes, from Under The Big Black Sun.
You should totally check out Tijuana Panthers and do some of their music. They're surf punk. Modern stuff but it amazing.
Such a fun song to play! Thanks. I’ve been a big fan of X for a long time. By the way, there is a great video of John Doe posted by fender a few months ago that’s worth watching.
Always meticulously researched and so clearly presented. The comment from Billy, himself, is quite a feather in your cap. More X, please!
Thanks, Adrian good exercise for stretching
I have an idea for an easy one Theme for something really important, Duane Eddy
The late Jet Harris always played it. I would love to be able to pay it
Fantastic song choice as usual, Adrian! Love your tutorials
What ?! Playing X on guitar and not striking the Billy Zoom pose. Un fathonable. And don't forget to smile down at the imaginary audience!
hits the spot!
Do “Johnny hit and run Pauline”, I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks for a great tutorial!
X is my favorite live band ever. Billy Zoom makes it look effortless. He is miles above the average punk rock guitar player.
Wow great sound you got there.
Oh man this is great! I would love dancing with tears in my eyes! There's a couple licks for the life of me I can't get.
Well played. Under the Big Black Sun is great X song that Billy rocks on as well.
Do nauseua next.
Yeeeeesssss!
X!
Mooooore X!
More X!
Riddle me surprised! Great choice!
Thank you!
This has made my day! Adrian your a superstar...💥
Billy's playing on "Hot House" is a hotter than a urinary infection (I stole that from a music critic's assessment of the song).
I'm always puffed up that John Doe was born in my hometown. Hope to see X again once the Rona gets sorted.
I heard you like to teach punk songs, then why don't you teach us John Lennon's "Well well well"?
Fun song!
Love X. I must say that Vox cops the cranked Gretsch sound point on! Love your tone!
Brilliant. Thanks for this.
nice
What a awesome band from my teens Billy is amazing
More fun in the new world is another amazing song.
I'll replace your drunken man. Sit in the parking lot. Hold your hand
yes to more X! really glad to have this lesson and glad you dig the band! outside of LA I would say they're not nearly as well known as should be
X cellent stuff definitely more Billy Zoom lessons such an incredible guitarist
I love the First X album, and second contains some other great songs, i bought these records on vinyl many years ago
More X! Fabulous lesson, but they all are. Great work again!
Very cool. I like X a lot, especially the song Fourth of July.
Great lesson as usual. You really nailed the sound.
Great! And they have another new album out.
Excellent! Plus that Vox looks and sounds fantastic!
Great job. X is amazing.
Great song! But "Blue Spark" rocks even more!
This is really great - like all your lessons - even BZ approved
As I mentioned on Facebook, great choice and great job.
