Learn exactly how to tie a figure 8 knot with a follow-through the proper way. CMC Rescue walks you step by step through the process of tying a figure 8 knot with a follow-through. The video also provides slow-motion visuals to help you learn it faster!
The figure 8 bend is used to tie two ropes together. It is a self-locking knot and the large bends make it easier to untie after the rope has been loaded than other knots. Our recent testing of this knot showed a much lower efficiency than an earlier test. Knot efficiency = 51%

Nice, I blinked and then I was half way through the knot.
Excellent quality, the slow-mo and stop action with still photos are really awesome. Great job, Jim.
I passed my belay test. Have been doing vehicle and boat recovery 40 years. This video works for me.
Nice. How does that work and how can I get into this type of field as a secondary means of income?
Thanks for the video. I just wish your position was higher on the screen so when I paused to check my work then all the overlays would not be in the way.
Great video. Thanks and Godspeed.
There is also a twist in that. Anyone trying to pass a belay test would fail using this video.
Just subscribed. Thanks and Godspeed!
still can't do it
Niece vdo 😋👍😊❤️clearly
And there is always the option to turn down the volume.........
A step by step with vocal would be more helpful
Wow the people in the comments suck. lol. Thank you for the informative videos!!! I got it downnnn
I mean, I got it just fine so I dunno why y'all think it's a bad video
Yeah, showing it speeded up at the beginning is really going to help me learn it. Together with the loud and annoying music instead of instruction, well, how could I fail?
just think faster
Mute the volume dude. No reason for annoying rambler talker instruction...get in the zone and teach yourself
You should definitely complain more.
If you cant follow this slow motion then give up, you must be retarded.
What is this particular knot for ?
The Figure 8 with a follow through can be used as an anchor around an object or to eliminate a carabiner when attaching a rope to something (i.e. harness, litter bridle, etc.).
Who's here from cadets!!??
*There is no way to get your finger nails that short with out eating them. WHY?*
Quit watching when I saw the crossed strands right at the beginning ..
Complete failure.
Well i got it first go so.......
