them treasures you found are beautiful! then ya break out a whole bucket full of beautiful treasures, yup i`m in the wrong state for sure, course there are treasures here also, except we got the freezing cold and snow, thank you for taking us along
I miss beach combing the Puget Sound. I traded it for the desert in SW Idaho. I find a lot of nice stuff here and in Oregon. Every time I get back to Western Washington I try to get my beach fix. 😊
I think I almost have paced a hole in the floor just wanting to get out. Still don't dare go into the mountains, so maybe I will spend more time on the shores
I do quite a bit of rockhounding in the Hoodsport area, its not on any of the collecting sites so it is not heavily picked. I have been to Ritzville a few times I don't recall seeing anything south of town.
5:29 looks like it could be a vertabrae....whale perhaps?? The surrounding stuff looks like some of the chain coral other you-tubers have shown. Good video! Love the name Hamma Hamma....
Thats what I was thinking also, but until I can get something and take it home for closer inspection I just won't know for sure. Yes it was such a good place they named it twice
My grandpa owns a slice of tidelands alongside hood canal and I find some absolutely amazing rocks there! I was looking for more info on them when I found this video. I'm definitely going to be looking at the rocks more carefully on my next visit!
My grandpa also owned tidelands on the Hood Canal and we would find poppy jasper there. Lots different rock got pushed into that area, so you can find just about anything
The shoreline looks very much like some of the shores on the great lakes. Too much snow and muck (getting rain) to get out just yet. I think what you are asking about is possibly coral mats, really interesting stuff. If it is a type of coral that has been flattened, the bit in the middle is likely the root base/stalk. Enjoyed the windy wander, ty
The tide didn't go out very far that day, so yes it does look like it could be a lake shoreline. When the tide goes out it will look like a empty reservoir. Coral is interesting a few people have said that, I have never heard of coral being found around here. I will have to go back with some chisles and see if I can get a piece to bring home. Our weather has warmed up, but can't go into the mountains yet.
@@OldGuyAdventures You are in a most beautiful place. The closest thing to a mountain here is the Niagara Escarpment, great hounding spots though. lol If it is coral, quite possibly "brain" coral. Cool stuff!
I wish I knew more about fossils. I'm still learning so much. It did look like fossils to me. In fact, the host rock looked like a giant coral fossil of sorts... But I can't say for sure. Very interesting.
I wonder if the riprap you were inspecting as fossil bearing couldn't actually be slag from the Ruston Smelter. The patterns reminded me of molten slag I've seen that was dumped on the ground wet sand and water.
I am sure they used some large rocks from some roadcut nearby. There was a landslide right across the highway and some of it may have came from there. If the place was closer to Ruston they might have used it.
I like to watch Mamlambo UA-cam channel hes in New Zealand but he pulls a lot of fossils from the beach. He's a really cool watch if you haven't checked him out. All this fossil hunting is making me jealous!
I glanced around on this map but wasn’t able to come up with much. wadnr.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapJournal/index.html?appid=6a6819c35f1e4bd69a30f0da3b0473cc#map Maybe some of those larger things in the rocks are “concretions”? I’m not sure. :)
I have been over those maps and I have maps of fossils from back in the 1950's and I have never seen anything about that area. It looked like they dumped the material there from somewhere else. I know that area had a mudslide back in the 1970's so it could be from that area across the road which now is under a bunch of rock.
@@OldGuyAdventures Put your own map together and then send them your “bill”. LoL 😂 Make sure they compensate you for your time :) Thanks for the video!

You just have to get whatever you have wherever you live. There is some fun stuff in that bucket.
Cutting rock is always my favorite. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed!

I also traded the rain in for a Eastern Washington climate for a few years, but now I am back and I will indulge in getting back to my roots
That's a nice big chunky Jasper.
And its different from the others I find in that area
Jasper is nice the green has nice color. Snow is starting to melt today can not wait for warmer weather
I think I almost have paced a hole in the floor just wanting to get out. Still don't dare go into the mountains, so maybe I will spend more time on the shores
Thanks for the wonderful day at the shore. The waves were nice to hear. 🐕🐾
I had a good time on the beach
Nice walk on the beach! I have friends there in Hoodsport. Someday, we'll have to meet up when we visit them. I live south of Ritzville.

Interesting I’m from Spokane area , but awesome finds thank you 😊 always learning 😊💙
The best part is you will always get to learn something new about rocks, at least I still do

At least its not far away and I can check it out again. Next time I will bring some tools so I can bring something home.
cool interesting video, some cool finds, when you say canal its like 50 time bigger than what we call a canal, thanks for sharing
It is not really a canal, it is a fjord thats about 100 miles long and a few miles across. They just gave it the name Hood Canal.
@@OldGuyAdventures thanks you and welcome to thecaptainshow

Fossilized coral?
Great adventure! What is that green and white slab in your bucket? It's a beauty!
That is a slab of quartz and epidote. It is very common around the Olympics
@@OldGuyAdventures Very cool! Here in New England the only epidote I've found is a much lighter green, so it's interesting to see the variety.

I have watched him many times and I also watch the guys in England. They have really great areas to hunt
4mins & 45secs into the Video IT APPEARS TO BE An ENORMOUS FOSSILIZED DINOSAUR BONE, MAYBE MARROW?
Wouldn't that be nice! I may have to stop by that area and take a second look
if i had to guess about those large circular fossils, i would guess that they are most likely tree branches or trunks. fossilized wood.
The only way I will know for sure is I am goiing to have to go back with some tools and get one out and really take a good look
I glanced around on this map but wasn’t able to come up with much.
