I dunno if I agree with you about the Oilers defense. Yes, it obviously breaks down sometimes but they all do that. Their problem this year is that the bottom 6 tends to fall apart whenever they see McDavid giving less than 200%. If he's not on fire then no one is. Well, except for Hyman but he's a freakin' machine. lol (Yeah, thanks to the Leafs for not recognizing what you had in that guy. 🙂) I really believe that the problem with the Oilers is psychological because they have the best player in the world and that means the other players naturally and maybe even unconsciously follow him. They have to learn to to get up and lead themselves when he's having an off day instead of just following the leader off the cliff. Or maybe their leader just needs to be more vulnerable and tell them he's having an off day and ask them to step up? I don't know but I do know psychology, especially team psychology, is a big part of winning.
Actually, if you look back at the 2021/2022 playoffs Kane and Draisaitl had more impact than McDavid. Too bad Kane is not what he was before his injuries. He was like a Glenn Anderson type who just went up 3 levels in the playoffs. Like the playoffs were what he was made for. Draisaitl was visibly injured for most of that playoffs. There were times he could barely skate and barely get up after he was hit. Yet he was the highest scoring player of all the teams in those playoffs. Since that terrible start to the season, the Oilers have been killing it. They have a lot of confidence and experience coming from behind in the 3’rd period, very similar to the Gretzky era. But being honest, the Oilers are not the only team looking really strong this year. Florida, Boston, the Rangers, Winnipeg and Vancouver all look really strong..and you could add some more teams to that list that are capable of going all the way. In a Cap world having 75% and 50% salary retained doesn't come cheap. You pay more for cap retainage than you do the player. They got a $6 mil dollar man for $1.5 mil and Carrick for $425k. The Oilers needed a top 6 player)) because they actually only have 4 top 6 players: McDavid, Dri, Hyman and Nuge. Kane (-7) is the second worst defensive player behind Brown (-9) and McLeod is also not in the top 6. In addition, Dri does not like to play with Kane and everything suggests that the second line can be very weak in defense. and not so much in attack.😇 I'm not very happy with the trade ))😝
The Oilers expanded and beefed up their own analytics team over last summer. If they pursued Carrick you can be damn sure their scouts and number nerds know exactly the role they wanted him to fill
Brown was done before the analytics department was expanded and if you look at his own performance stats you would be a fool to think this level of performance would have been expected by anyone. He had 4 other teams offering him 3x$3m which is why Oilers structured the bonus they did. But please tell us more about your 20/20 hindight. Even McDavid and Hyman pushed Brown hard to sign with the Oilers over his other options@@BenjaminDaCunha-ys8ty
@@BenjaminDaCunha-ys8ty To be fair to the scouts/analytics team though, Brown hardly played last year leaving no real recent data for them to look at, along with Connor McDavid vouching for him. The organization counted on a bounce back from him and the outcome of that has been comical. Besides killing penalties, he has done next to nothing in Edmonton this year. It is tough to remember, but the Oilers weren't the only team that wanted Connor Brown last off season.
@@BenjaminDaCunha-ys8ty Its not like the Oilers were the only club in on Brown. The fact that he was bonus paid is what teams liked about him. Could Kenny have structured the bonus better? probably but that is water under the bridge. If Brown scores a clutch goal in the playoffs, which I believe he will, that money will be worth every penny. Nuff said
@TheWarawaj how will he even be around for playoffs unless a few ppl are injured? Ok people think holloway or foegele may be packaged for a D and gagne is gone.
ouch a 1st rounder for Henrique, standard Kenny Holland stuff, trade away all the 1st rounders then have no pipeline. He did it with Detroit and they haven't been to the playoffs in 8 years. Watch out Edmonton, you don't win your next decade will look like Detroit's last ten years.
It's not a 1st round for Henrique. It's a 1st round (mid 20s or worse of a weak draft) for Henrique and Carrick and 50% off. In a Cap world you pay more for capspace than you do a player.
whatever floats your boat, giving up a first rounder for Ekhome and now another first for Henrique really is a stretch in my opinion. Look at the Red Wings, Kenny did the same thing with them, that is what the Oil will look like in the future. @@TH-tl6sy
I don't think the money is going to work to make anything else substantial happen, they have no cap space and moving substantial dollar pieces sacrifices depth. There is not upgrade on Ceci (not to mention that Cody is straight up underrated, a decent player at his cap hit) that is going to be worth it at this point with lots of high end right shot deadline options gone, they would be much better off trading for defensive depth come the playoffs when somebody inevitably gets hurt. Broberg is their 7th D and has hardly played in the NHL, a veteran presence is needed in that spot. Ryan McLeod also had success in the top 6 this year on the right side, I think they will try that, not every hole is going to be filled. That's just a reality.
This video is literally about a trade in which they added a top 6 forward. No shade to Steve's opinion, but Henrique is absolutely and obviously an improvement over Janmark in the top 6. And while I agree that Ceci is more of a bottom pair D-man on a contender-calibre D-core, calling it a "giant hole" is very melodramatic. You're acting like they're bleeding goals because of inferior defence, but the Oilers are in the top 10 league-wide in goals against per game this season, ahead of teams like Vegas, Dallas and Colorado. It's not unreasonable to think they could win with their current defenders if they play like they have been.
They have a little over $400k deadline capspace left. They would need to move a roster player out to add a D-man. Kenny might do magic who knows. But do not under estimate Depth. Knights bottom 6 won it for them. Pisani on the 3rd line added 14 goals on the 2006 SC run. Oilers don't make the stanley cup finals without Pisani. It was twice as many as Smyth and Horcoff Scored. What kind of Damage does a guy like Henrique do on the 3rd line facing weak competition? He's also very capable of playing second line if needed. Kane Henrique Nuge. Guys good at the Draw and Nuge is used to playing wing. Both are good Defensively. Lots of options for Oilers to mix and match bottom 9.
@@TH-tl6syyou just had to bring up Pisani today 🫣🥹 and that brother has a chronic illness affecting him on the ice too-- he will always be remembered. I agree about Nuge-- i love that he can go anywhere and mcleod can too if needed although hes not as seamless as nuge.

34 yr old is top 6? yikes bro
Like drasaitl has good defense lol love him but he watches the puck A LOT kane needs to get out of his funk and stop his bitchin
The Oilers expanded and beefed up their own analytics team over last summer. If they pursued Carrick you can be damn sure their scouts and number nerds know exactly the role they wanted him to fill
How has Brown worked out? I’m not complaining about this trade but I think you are giving too much credit to this front office.
I hate my ducks even more now. Thinking about leaving the fan base fr and I live in Anaheim smh. FOH Ducks, we’ll never be great again
Gets them a piece of what they've been needing, scoring depth, but that back line is sooooo sketchy.
ouch a 1st rounder for Henrique, standard Kenny Holland stuff, trade away all the 1st rounders then have no pipeline.
@@TH-tl6sy
*please get us patty kane, please please give us patty kane**
This guy hasn’t done anything since he got traded
Great
Oilers can't be done. They have 2 giant holes on the right side (TOP6 F and TOP4 D) and they just gotta fill one of them.
Oil didn't need more 3rd and 4th liners...what was it we needed 🤔 hmmm....
Henrique? Meh.
Your opinion? Meh
Wow, Oilers are going all in.
They might have moved the needled to be the Canadian team to win the Cup
