    Dear The Hockey Guy
    I have been a hockey fan since I knew how to watch and I played from the time I was 3 until I was 18 competitively. You are doing a damn good job! Every video you do is unbiased and straight to the sport. Please don’t stop doing you! As a leaf fan I have been forced to watch every other team due to my team either being crap some years or in most cases, getting beat out early. I feel that the league is so closely matched right now, as long as you make it to the playoffs it’s anyone’s game. It’s good for the sport to have it this evenly matched. That was the point of a salery cap and it worked. Yea it needs to be adjusted but the game is healthy.

    I hate it when anybody in hockey is called soft. Sure you can say a guy "isn't that tough" or "isn't a hitter", but if a guy's soft he isn't in the league. I also saw a ridiculous claim from a fellow Oiler fan online who must be very young to make such a foolish claim, where he said he doesn't think Skinner cares when he allows a goal (he was saying this in game 3 against the Canucks). I can get deep into goalie psychology but the point is, if a guy didn't care about a goal against, he wouldn't be in the league.

    The _ are trash is hilarious in the playoffs, because it is literally the top half of the league battling it out, trash teams didn’t make it or even came close to making it.
    Quite a few good to decent teams didn’t qualify for a multitude of reason.
    Also the 65 shots one made me think about how people are judging how goals are made by a specific player, i remember people downplaying the 30-40+ goal scorers that we’re the grinder type vs snipers, skilled players, etc. Recent examples of that are how people called Reinhart or Draisatl power play merchants ... that still doesn’t take anything away from their goal amount ?

    "Gentleman's sweep" is something I saw a bit of during the Tampa/Florida series. People were claiming Florida didn't win game 4 because they were being nice or something like that. It doesn't make sense. No team is willingly letting another team keep them from a shutout series win out of sportsmanship. I've heard people claim it's always a joke, but 1. this is the internet, and sarcasm isn't readable, and 2. "Gentlemanly sweep" is a phrase for a reason, because some people mean it.

    I like reading comments from previous years after trades in the vein of Juolevi or Puljujarvi etc. is a good trade for us, they just needed *a real chance* to succeed.
    Sure, they only received frivolous or willy-nilly chances before. It’s not unusual for a player to be taken 1st through 5th overall and be treated haphazardly, eh whatever, we’ll just wing it.
    I think it does say something when one franchise keeps having issues w/ high picks (Turris, Strome etc.) that do much better after leaving. It could be things clicked as they reached 22-23 vs. 18-19 but otoh a talented player should produce anywhere, go onward/upward as expected.

    Totally agree with everything you said. Maybe except for the claim that the rest of world would not find a stat on "is the 4rt win the hardest". That would be a nerdy stat and who does not like nerdy hockey stats?
    What I hear from fans that makes me think is "We want a great ref!". No you do not. You just want a ref that miss all the penalties your team makes and call a panelty everytime your players fall.

    I went to Dallas/Colorado game 4, we ended up next to some of the most obnoxious fans we've ever had the misfortune of sitting next to. One guy, all game, was yelling insults about Dallas. The Avs were losing basically the entire game. We're down by three and you really think the other team sucks? What does say about our team?

      My sympathies for going to that game. That game doesn't count for me as a Stars fan. Stars just need to not lose 4 times to win the series.

    I remember a football player from a great defense back in the day said that they were so physical and skilled that he could see the fire go out of some of the opponents eyes over the course of a game. So, they don't necessarily give up, they just become some combination of sore, tired, and frustrated. "Fatigue makes cowards of us all" - Vince Lombardi

    I would add “team x choked since they were ahead in the game/series and then they lost”. Very annoying, since having a lead is no guarantee of a win.

    As a Florida fan, every team that Florida beats, the opposing fans always always ALWAYS say "no cups" as if that matters for THIS season, and "no fans" as if they didn't just see a completely filled arena.
    The coping is bad.

    The 4th win is definitely hard to get in the 2nd round right now. The elimination games are 0W 5L for the team that could move on and it looks like we’re about to go 0W 6L. I mean if the Canes come back from 3-0 to beat the Rangers in 7 well we’ll see what happens in the offseason then.

    The one thing I will say about teams giving up, yeah the really good teams don’t, but go a tier lower, and you can see it. Best example I can think of is the Blues in the TJ Oshie era. I can’t remember the year or the opponent, but there was a series where you could see when a few players were just mentally done with the series. And I think this was the game before they were eliminated. The team had okay goaltending, but could not score, so if the other team got 2, they figured they weren’t winning

  • @sdgakatbk
    @sdgakatbk 15 днів тому

    I love this take. People's reactions are pretty funny.
    One thing I think is very true is that any athlete at the professional level is good. I would say this is true in the AHL and other leagues, but in the NHL, they are all extremely good. I remember when I first got into going to Capitals games in the early 80s. Back then I could get a front row seat just to the side of the netminder. Watching that close, I got a good idea just how quick and how skilled these players are.
    In terms of so and so "choking", a lot of times they are playing through injuries. I don't think we always know who has a nagging injury and who does not. There are many factors to how a player performs.

    I agree with your thoughts here, especially the first one. The Stars played the 2022 and 2023 Stanley Cup winners in the first 2 rounds. They're scary teams and I didn't pretend that wasn't the case. It made every win that much more rewarding. It's the playoffs. Every team here has the potential to rise to the challenge and steal a series

    • @maqywhaq
      @maqywhaq 15 днів тому +2

      Sarcasm online lacks a lot of interactive context(timing of a comment, underlying direction of a discussion, little looks and delivery, etc). It also doesn’t help that comments tend to exist almost in a vacuum as commenters can say things but never make it clear which part of a 3 hour video they might be referring to.
      Add in poor grammar/sentence structure in communication and one often needs to realize walking away is the only wise move.

    To your first point: this is why I'm not upset COL beat DAL last night. If DAL ran them over again, then ok, great, we beat a team that is mourning the loss of a teammate and brother. But COL dug deep and actually showed up last night! So now if Stars beat them, I can say they beat them, instead of saying COL got beat by Player's Assistance protocol.
    All the best to Nichu in his continuing recovery! Hope we get to see him in the NHL again. Hell of a player.
