Have you thought about putting the baker's rack and the cabinet you want to sand down on each side of the fireplace? Then move the hutch up some to leave room and see how that looks.

I think maybe a piece on either side of the fireplace or at least where the blanket ladder is, move the blanket ladder to either by the dog dish or someplace else. I hear you, I have been trying to figure out guest room layouts right now. Placement of furniture is difficult sometimes, ugh! ❤

I would put the pie safe on the wall next to your mantle and the bakers rack on the other side. Both facing the kitchen. Move your china cabinet down towards the kitchen and I would move some of the plants. Your grandmas bench would look good on the wall with window or where you placed it.
Just an idea. It will turn out great whatever you decide bc you always do a great job decorating. Can’t wait to see what you decide!!❤

Hello Genevieve. I’m an Interior Decorator and love to do furniture replacement lol.. I would put the shelf thing that you have next to your large cabinet in another room and put a beautiful picture with a little bit of color above the fireplace to add more warmth to the dining room. I do love all of your pieces.. you have really good taste 💗

On your antiques furniture: eighter go lighter on the wood or paint them white or somewhere in those light shades of color….. I can soooo see 1 large mirror or 2 different size mirror on your fireplace …. I love all that you do ❤

I definitely think a piece of furniture in that room needs to be angled in a corner, either the bakers rack or pie safe. You need to break up all the rectangles up against the walls. You have some beautiful pieces for sure. I think a large mirror over the mantle would open the room up more too. ❤

  • @madzabinga8382
    @madzabinga8382 15 днів тому +1

This was so relatable. Do you know how many times I just sit and stare at my walls wondering what in the Say-um Hay-ull to do to give them a space-lift? I totally get it! It's like, I love my things, but I am so stuck in how it's always been. I have a small house and things can only fit in certain spots. You have beautiful things! Your hutch is lovely! I would put a larged framed piece of art, or a large mirror above the mantle. The algorithm sent me here and I'm totally invested in this!😂 Here's some more thoughts:
Angle the pie safe in the corner so you can see the items inside. Move the ladder to a room where you use blankets, or next to the hutch, hang a plant from it and trelis it along it.
Stand the donut crate up next to the firplace and use it as a mini shelf to frame out the crock with the rolling pins. Vertical not horizontal.
Add a small quilt to the the bench or a pillow.

  • @tracyparis310
    @tracyparis310 15 днів тому +5

    Okay, here's my idea:
    - turn the pie safe so it is facing the kitchen and flanks the fireplace.
    - if it fits, put the baker's rack on the other side of the fireplace, facing the kitchen and pull your china hutch further down the wall towards the kitchen where you just had the baker's rack.
    - your ladder can go next to the passthrough where the baker's rack used to be (next to the window).
    - put the clock in the livingroom and set your new mirror on the mantle with your candlesticks clustered on both sides of the mirror with a draping pothos plant on one side and a figurine or small framed family photo on the other side.

Genevieve, you have some really lovely pieces! I love the sign over the window....great idea! What I would do with your space is move your blanket ladder to the wall beside the bench to add some height and maybe drape a coverlet or shawl on the bench paired with a sweet needlepoint pillow. I would also place one of your plants on the top of the cabinet you want to sand and then angle the piece across the corner rather than flat to the wall. I wonder what the baker's rack would look like angled across the opposite corner by the fireplace? That gorgeous hutch could then be shifted down a bit for breathing room on that long wall. I like to place something unexpected in a room....could you use some of your white stoneware pieces to form a vignette on the mantel?.....fill them with some colour: plants or wooden spools wrapped with yarn or long strips of vintage fabric or place some bowls on a stack of vintage books (cookbooks would be very apropos!) and tuck in a few old kitchen utensils. Lucky you to have such a fun place to play.....enjoy the reset! 😊

Try the bakers rack on other side of hutch and it will be across from other piece( forgot what you called it. Get rid of ladder and when you move the hutch down maybe the hutch balances window? Just guessing. I definitely would put plants on mantle. Maybe totally take out bench.

I have a really narrow and tall pie safe in our kitchen that kinda stores our random entryway stuff since we don’t have a closet. It’s been on the other side of the kitchen all winter (where my spice rack used to be) because it blocked the heat vent too much, even with a plastic extender below it. Everything has felt so off-balance. I can’t wait to move it back in the spring when we don’t need to use the HVAC.

  • @marthayoder1188

How about putting pie safe on an angle in the corner... (but more toward fireplace) put the ladder by the wall between the window and kitchen... push Grandmas bench under the windows and slide table up next to the bench if bench isn't used much... now that frees up the center of the room.... push hutch closer to fireplace... leave a bigger space between hutch and bakers rack... now see if it is still too heavy?? Put that donut crate on it's side on the mantle... add a mirror, small lamp and one of the plants off of hutch...(mantel needs greenery) another suggestion.. switch out curtains if desired...thrift stores often have nice ones without too much expense...if you hate it, not too much is lost! Just some suggestions... but as always you do what makes you happy! 😊

I know you love the bakers rack. Is your back patio covered? I wonder if you could put it out there to free up some space in the DR. You also don’t want it to deteriorate from the elements. I like the idea of a mirror & artwork for warming up & opening the space. How about a larger painting in place of the clock and then lean the small mirror you got at big lots against it in an offset position

Have you ever heard the expression “reset your house or room?” Take everything out of your dining room and put it somewhere and just look at it for a couple days empty. Then slowly bring the things back you love. Not the things in your hutch or the things that are already inside of shelving units, but just everything sitting out and then Decide from there what and if you want to bring certain things back.

I would place one of the black chairs on the other side of the hutch, that would give you 4 chairs around your table and then move the small cabinet down on the wall by the opening in the kitchen. I would hang some of the signs on one side of the hutch, put one of the plants on your dining table, and maybe add a mirror above the fireplace. I would add that corbel somewhere in the dining room. It is beautiful. The big box that you took out might look pretty sitting on top of your large hutch. Can't wait to see what you do with it. My thoughts: move the pie safe to the left hand side of the fireplace, put the new mirror on top of it (just leaning against the wall and keep the lamp too. Maybe one of your plants in front of the mirror. Move the ladder to where the bakers rack was before, and put a high plant beside the fireplace. Hang a big painting/artpiece above the fireplace. If you have room for the bakers rack in another room, move it, and pull the hutch to the right so it’s centered on the wall. If you don’t have room elsewhere for the bakers rack, simplify the decor on it by only displaying plates. I totally understand that its overwhelming figuring out new decor but you will get there, just do what makes you happy to look at 😄

Yes you should move one of the plants on top of the hutch. I like the antique sign above the windows. Maybe get a large antique mirror for the mantle but I’d put those candle sticks back up in front of it just off to the side a little…so pretty! angle the pie safe in that corner so it’s not flush with either wall.
Add a pillow or light blanket to the bench. Hang the new small mirror in the corner next to it. Remove all the bulky items on top of the hutch leaving a few simple pieces. Unless you use the bowls on the bakers rack with frequency, perhaps put them away just for that reset sort of change you're wanting & move the bakers rack out of the room. Also remove the ladder & blankets since the blankets can perhaps be used in the living room or another room other than where you eat makes better sense. The pie safe if you caddy corner to appreciate all the pretty bowls inside. The bench looks nice on the wall of the bar. Maybe place one of the extra dining chairs next to the fireplace & rest a plant on it. Make sure to put a dish or bowl under the plant to protect the chair from any water damages. The mantle would look pretty with a mirror. The hutch can be better centered with the windows on the opposite side of room. That hutch is huge & has a lot happening already a basket on top would add to the heavy look. But ultimately, it's whatever you like & works for you & family ! Good luck post your final look !

Try not to overthink it when you rearrange. The more you do that the more overwhelmed you will become. Just do it, live with for a few days then revisit it.

Hi, just a suggestion maybe move bakers rack to another room.

I would keep the candlesticks on the mantle add a large piece of framed vintage art or a large mirror above the mantle, the pie safe could be put caddy cornered so you can see it more as you walk into the room than being flush against the wall, and maybe simplify the top of the hutch to maybe 1 plant on one side and a basket in the middle and maybe a crock collection of 3 in different sizes on the other side. If you could take the blanket ladder to your living room or bedroom it would open up space in a corner and around your beautiful hutch the bakers rack is something I'd struggle with to maybe if you had a open wall in your kitchen it would look good there full of cookbooks and baking dishes. I love the bench maybe add some pillows to make it look fuller, and move the peg rack to the wall that the bakers rack used to set against and add a basket of greenery and some vintage kitchen measuring cups and a sifter to it.

I’d put the bakers rack back where it was. Too crowded on that side. Try the bench in that spot.

Yes girl I'm in the same boat you are 🤔😬🙄 not sure at this moment what I'm putting out !! And I even went to the Hobby Lobby and some of my favorite stores today and there wasn't a dang thing that I wanted it was a big wasted trip 😅 and now I'm sitting here watching your video ... and staring at my blank shelves , and yes you have too much on one side of your dining room .. I have a solution tell your hubby you need a bigger house so you can keep all your goods 😅

I think the way you had everything in the beginning looked the best. If neither pie safe or bakers rack fit by the fireplace like previously mentioned. I think the bakers rack by the large hutch feels like too much. But it’s all what you like 😊

I also think you could use some art on the walls, a nice painting or two is missing from this space

I think you need to angle one of the big pieces as right now everything is up against the wall. Also, maybe changing up your drop cloth curtains to something a little simple will help. They are nice and neutral but the fold over draws your eyes to them and adds to the visual clutter. Clutter is t the right word, I don’t mean to offend, it’s just you have so many beautiful pieces in one space, your eyes don’t know where to go first. You could also try the two big items on either side of the fireplace. But, and don’t hate me for saying, but I don’t think the bakers rack should stay in there. A mirror above the fireplace would look lovely. And you could add an accent chair on an angle by the fireplace with the blanket ladder behind for extra coziness. But that would definitely require moving out the bakers rack and centering your big hutch more and letting that be the big focal point. Also, I like the plants on top vs a lot of bulky items. Just my two cents. You have a beautiful home and a great eye for beautiful things! I love your videos!!

I think bakers rack looks fine where you have it now. Less plants on hutch, mirror to one side of mantle with some greens. Sign above curtains.

Ok, here’s my opinion….what if you turn that little cabinet that you rest sanded to the fireplace wall? I think you would be able to see what’s displayed in it better and it would add visual interest to that wall. I think a. Antique mirror is a great idea to use to reflect light and add some interest if it’s a bit ornate rather than everything with straight lines. Then would add plants on top of your cabinet to bring greenery to that side of the room and mimic the top of your big hutch. In the corner where the bakers rack was, what about a bunch of life plants staggered on all different heights of plants stands for visual interest, maybe even a few cute small pieces of furniture. I think the live greenery will bring life into your space. You could even pick a color to add and do a few pops of that color in plant stands or decor or flowers for spring.

Put the piece of furniture at the fire place across the corner. All you see is the side of the cabinet and nothing inside. Put the bakers rack against the bar not against the wall. you can still see thru and see your goodies from the other room. Angle the table from being straight on to the fireplace.

Instead of putting it everything towards the wall. Catty corner the largest piece or tallest. In my opinion there is too many large pieces in that room. But it is your house. Do what you like and makes you happy ❤

The hutch wall is too heavy.
I think if the pie cabinet is staying by fireplace, you should corner it to change it's profile and give it a new shape. The blanket rack should be moved because everything on that side is the same height and it needs varying heights so the eye doesn't get stuck.

Antique Pickin's sign looks great above your Curtain, your Grandmother's Bench needs to be taken apart and reglued & screwed, The glue is old and needs redone.I had a bench that sat 5 people that I had to have the same thing done to it, also I had a Piece of wood screwed place below the seat for Baskets to be placed to put Extra Supplies to be put. And the work I had done to it Made the Bench sturdy for people to be able to sit at it. Baker's rack looks great on that wall. Idaho
