I personally think Volvo hit the nail on the head. This is the future of motoring. We inherently have an issue with change. 90% of the "frustrations" is because we ALWAYS want access to EVERYTHING. How often do you adjust your mirrors? How often do you need to open your car from in the house? Should you really be scratching for something in the glovebox while driving? Volvo has taken a very pragmatic approach in every single design aspect of the EX30 and I think it's brilliant. It's going to take some individuals longer to get used to it, just like you still have some older folks that still don't want to know anything about an automatic gearbox. But this is the future!

I couldn't disagree more with your comment. I could give an argument against every single thing you just said. Actually, let me do just that:
      - when required in enclosed space.
      - when loading your car oretting someone else pick up in your car.
      - not while driving but when the engine is off so I don't need to turn on the car.
"Progress" for the sake of "progress" is not the future, it is a temporary trend. In this case, a cost cutting mesure is detrimental to the basic functions of the vehicle. There is a reason why there is legislation proposal in several regions to mandate a set number of function on physical buttons.
A virtual interface is always more confusing then a physical one, but is much cheaper to produce. This is a cost cutting mesure and we should not confuse it with "progress"

I think a vehicle like this EX30 works for SOME people, but isn't the vehicle or direction for everyone. I (Nile) drove this in October as part of an association event, I didn't like it. I only had the car for 40 minutes though, so it didn't give me much time to experience it, but I dislike a lot of what this car is doing. It may work for some and that's fine, but it doesn't work for me and I wouldn't buy a vehicle in any size segment with a setup like this.

@@leewaymodels - How do you currently adjust your mirrors, what could be easier than selecting mirrors on the screen and operating directional arrows?
      - What is the difference between picking up your phone and opening your car compared to a key fob? Who is picking up your car and going anywhere without a key?
      - There is no engine in an electric car, opening the car turns it on, if someone is in your car that is not supposed to be they have no access to glovebox.

I have had other recent Volvo models and their thinking is to make use of the Volvo as easy as possible, so for normal driver that is not adjusting everything every day. That’s also safety measure to let you concentrate driving.

And how often do you have people in the back seat.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 днів тому +1

Not often, that's why the EX30 exists. If you need to use the rear seats more, get the EX40 for the small increase in size.

If legroom is excellent in the rear seat and seats are configurable you can still have that space for cargo so in my opinion, they’re doing things backwards don’t prioritize cargo room over the legroom ,prioritize the legroom and passenger space first and then makes the seats so they can fold out of the way if needed!

I've got mine on order - long range 69kw single motor. Been told it may take 4-6months. 😢

Looked good till you showed the driver seat. Minimal physical button and lack of instrument cluster is just poor design. I truly hate how simple convenience became obsolete because of Tesla style cost cutting interdace. I will unfortunately have to pass on that one to replace my 1st gen Bolt EV.

The screen controlled glovebox is the silliest thing Volvo could ever design! Minimalism brought to an useless level!

Volvo should at least offer an optional HUD (headup display) to compensate the guilty absence of central instrument cluster

Nile drove this in October and wasn't a fan of the interior at all.

Thats what the EX40 is for, this is meant to be a city commuter for those who don't have passengers on a regular basis.

When you play with your cell phone when driving you can be charged but so far this is ok to be distracted by when driving seems to me these cars are much worse .

It’s got nothing to do with a phone and the infotainment having a touch screen - it’s to do with content. If people’s phones were turned off, they wouldn’t sit distracted on them while they drive. The content between a phone and an infotainment are night and day…

Just add drivers screen or preferably HUD, rear seat air vents and rear seat heating (needs it for comfort of my doggo) and I am ready to downsize.
