Correct, and, in at least some of her writing, she had already-been making that clear. That GANG had obviously-been taking-advantage-of local, small-town banks and Cops, while employing their STOLEN Texas National Guard Armory Browning Automatic Rifles, against local bank guards or Deputies armed with their .38's. But Bonnie was no dummy, and she just had-to-KNOW that, eventually, the LAW would EVENTUALLY-be getting SERIOUS, ENOUGH, to run-in someone who wouldn't PLAY-with them, and THAT was RANGER FRANK HAMER.

I believe the real total was 173 bullets fired into their car 51 bullets hit and killed Clyde 53 bullets hit Barney the first bullet hit Clyde on the left temple some speculate a pastors had an actually kill Barney while other reports actually state that it killed Clyde Barney was still alive and actually started screaming (whether she screamed because Clyde killed her or because Ted Higgins gun actually fired eight rounds from his browning automatic rifle in a straight vertical line that hit Bonnie through the windshield is the question); I’ve done a lot of research into the accuracy of this movie definitely hands-down the best representation and I wish they showed this story first instead of glorifying the killers of Bonnie and Clyde because they were no good citizens frank Hamer Maney Gault Bob Alcorn Ted Hinton and the other two officers definitely should’ve been portrayed as the heroes back in the 60s when they made the fade done away worn bee version it’s sad it took 85 years for the real story to finally come out glad it did though!! I heard that to. but the place today is a paved road with the tree line cut way back from the road side. It was a dirt road back then with the trees almost right up to the road side. I think what they did for the movie was to just film a few hundred yards down on a side road which is still dirt and looks the way the ambush site was that fateful day?

@@MegaWolfgang I was once in a period film ("Gettysburg") that was shot on location on a portion of the Gettysburg battlefield that had the same situation...it was shooting on a road that was dirt at the time of the scene, but had since been paved in modern times. To make the dirt road on the same stretch of road that was now paved, the production trucked in a dozen or so dump trucks full of dirt. They spread it over the road and packed it down with a roller; after shooting was wrapped for that scene, they scraped all the dirt up with a front-end loader and got rid of it again.

Overall, good review. Good points about Ma and the Ranger force. I’d like to share some details with you regarding Bonnie’s involvement. I am very familiar with these events as a family member of one of the two primary characters (Maney Gault) amd as someone who has discussed this case in detail with legitimate historians. Bonnie did, in fact, shoot the officer in Grapevine. The belief that she did not had been a myth perpetuated by her cult following. They are using a misleading statement made to a newspaper reporter to perpetuate this myth. There were actually multiple eye witnesses that saw Bonnie shoot the officer. Forensic evidence at the scene also indicated Bonnie. The witness (Giggles) who say he saw “the taller of two men” shoot the officer was not even at the scene of the crime until after the officer had already been shot by Bonnie. Giggles was only at the scene because he heard gun shots and then turned his car around and drove to the scene. He could not possibly have seen who shot the officer. There were 4 people who saw Bonnie do the shooting. There was a fifth witness who saw Bonnie there moments before the shooting. Their stories are all consistent. Giggles saw the scene from a distance, with his view obstructed by a grove of trees. Bonnie was indicted for the murder by a grand jury. These are all verifiable facts. I hope you will consider amending your video one more time to reflect this truth: I’m happy to discuss the details with you and provide references.
    Respectfully,
    Mike Gault

My grandma told me a little bit about them since she lived through it (my daddy was a toddler at the time) & they came through Oklahoma. Bonnie did commit murder, I don't how many she participated in (actually the only one shooting as depicted) but there was a police officer who she did kill. I was young, so she didn't go into details but did confirm that she was responsible for killing at least 1 officer & other people. What is amazing is that people actually admired them, not my grandma. It was due in large part by newspapers & their selfish desire to sell them, not so different from today's MSM. Thanks for this video, well done young man!!

The prison escape scene where Bonnie is firing a Thompson full auto for what seems like 2 plus minutes is comical. I giggle everytime I see it.
My police department had six 1927 Thompsons smgs and I had the good fortune of firinging them in the late 1990s at the range. A fully loaded drum magazine held 50 rounds on full auto that drum was empty in less then 4 maybe 5 seconds . I believe the rate of fire is 800 rounds per minute of a pre WW2 Thompson . Meaning Bonnie would have fired 1600 to 2000 rounds during the prison break scene.

The only thing you left out was the controversy over who called out for them to surrender, Hamer or Sheriff Jordan? I suspect both men did. In the fusillade that followed it is generally agreed that Deputy Oakley fired the first fatal shot into Barrow. After that it is anyone's guess who shot whom.

They made u feel for them as humans & see it from their point of view rather than just making them look like evil criminals which they definitely were but they were still humans with emotions!!!!! Both films tell it from each separate side but the 1967 film makes more of a intense scene because u already spent two hours getting to know them as characters!!!! Highway men just portrays them as devils & nothing else & it doesn't do anything for anyone as a viewer!!!!! They shouldn't be romanticized but they shouldn't be treated as soulless ppl either like they are from a different planet or something!!!! According to John Boessenecker who wrote “Texas Ranger, the epic life of Frank Hamer”, Hamer and his posse were in the weeds along the road, ten feet apart. Clyde Barrow and Bonnie came along in their light tan Ford V-8 and stopped for Mr. Methvin, fixing the flat tire. Just then, a logging truck with two black guys came the other direction. Clyde moved his car forward to let the logging truck by on the narrow road. There had been arguments between Hamer and Sherrif Jordan IF they would say “Halt” to Bonnie and Clyde OR just open up. As the logging truck proceeded and Clyde car moved forward, an inexperienced deputy thought Clyde was escaping. Several of the officers yelled”Halt!!”, but then ...Firing began.

We know that Bonnie was an accessory to many crimes including robbery and murder of police officers. It sort of is a moot point whether she pullled the trigger or not because no doubt she did kill at least a few people. We will never know for sure but when she hung around Clyde Barrow a murderer, robber and killer of police officers, she made her own choices. I tend to think she was entirely capable of shooting the wounded cops with a shotgun.
But here again, the historical evidence is sketchy on these points. Police officers were killed by Bonnie and Clyde or by Clyde with lots of help from Bonnie. It gets silly which movie version gets it all perfect. The historical records and witness testimonies conflict with other stories. I couldn't find a description in her brief FBI history online whether she killed a police officer(s) or not. It makes little difference to the widow and children of the slain cops. Bonnie and Clyde were inhuman animals who both would have faced death in the electric chair if captured alive for trial.

It’s well worthy note for Ted Hinton being invited to their posse to identify them since he was both Bonnie’s and Clyde’s friend.
The car itself that held their dead bodies is now in a Nevada casino.
Interestingly, the romanticized 1967 bio movie of Bonnie and Clyde had grossly and inaccurately portrayed Frank Hamer; it eventually was sued for defamation for this controversy.
The historical Texan lawman himself was a certified badass; Hamer was also credited for saving many from and fighting against white supremacists/KKK, also he with others offered their services to the British King George VI against potential Nazi invasion.

One thing I know that was never used by Bonnie and Clyde were Tommy guns. After they were killed there were no Tommy guns found in their arsenal. They used BARs and other firearms and from what I heard the BAR is an extremely heavy rifle and has a kick to it. Bonnie was a said to be a tiny woman, less than five feet tall, and not likely to be able to handle the rifle. Some historians speculate that her part in the shootings was she loaded the guns and handed them out. She likely carried smaller handguns, one of which she allegedly taped to her leg to smuggle in to Clyde during one jail break.

    • @katsu-graphics5634
      @katsu-graphics5634 3 роки тому +4

True, no Tommy guns. . .But Neither the BAR or the Colt Monitor have any great "Kick" (more than usual). In order to keep the barrel from rising on full auto, the dead weight of a BAR is specifically designed to counteract the kick of a 30-06 round. A standard 12 gage pump shotgun has 3 times the "kick" shoulder pressure than a 30-06 BAR. Conversely, the same 30-06 bullet in a bolt action Model 70 Remington has extreme "kick" , due to the light weight of the rifle and no recoil buffer spring mechanism. Watch Ian on Forgotten Weapons shoot actual full auto BARs and Monitors, NATO 7.62 M14s, and more , and watch slow motion barrel rise comparisons, and his commentary. And there are plenty of videos showing girls firing BARs, because shooting one is one thing, but carrying one around all day is another.

Yes, the B.A.R. actually-WAS quite-heavy, SO-heavy, in fact, that American soldiers (among-whom my own FATHER was counted, since HE was a 75th Infantry Division B.A.R. man, in the midst of the Battle of the Bulge), could TELL YOU that the recoil-impulse from the B.A.R. was SO-MODEST, even despite its powerful .30-'06 Cartridge, that American Soldiers would literally hold this Automatic Rifle's butt-against their NOSES, in-order-to demonstrate the Browning Automatic Rifle's astonishingly-modest recoil-impulse. Nice-TRY, at some supposedly-valid historical-revisionism, though. NOT-particularly-"convincing," though, except-among the similarly-UNINFORMED. Good grief. Can't we get anyone-better, to "comment?"

Moreover, if you can verify that Bonnie did or didn't handle a BAR, this would be better and make a more sound argument, especially considering soldiers who at the time had meet a height and physical requirements which a small framed woman with no military training didn't or couldn't meet.

The Model of 1921 Thompson SMG is iconic, like the Colt 1873 Single Action Army revolver. To not have it in a movie leaves the audience feeling shorted. Bonnie did have a cut-down Remington Model 11 20 gauge semiautomatic shotgun (a variation of the Browning Auto-5), but whether she ever used it to shoot anyone remains a matter of some debate.

If you go to Google Maps and type "Bonnie & Clyde Death Spot" it will take you to the actual site. I visited the site this past October while in Shreveport for my job. It's less than an hour east of Shreveport. Standing there and looking around, you can imagine the events that day.
The specific spot with the markers on that road is elevated from the surrounding area, and is in the middle of about a mile of straight road. A car driving south from Gibsland (as were Bonnie and Clyde), would be in sight for a half mile before reaching that little rise. You can see that by zooming to street level on the map and looking north (towards Gibsland). The gravel area on the east side is obviously new, but next to that, and just south of it a few yards on the road, the area has a berm beside the road that is elevated about four feet higher than the roadway.
The story is that the southbound side of the road was blocked by Ivy Methvin's truck, which would force Clyde's car to move over closer to the east side of the road, and get him to slow down, as he knew Ivy's truck. At that time, the men on the berm would have an elevated position, and would be firing down into the car. For me, the bullet holes visible in the upper doorframe on Clyde's car supports this elevated firing position theory.
Whether you believe the part about Hamer standing in the roadway or not, this was a very well executed ambush, and the results speak to that.
As for the accuracy of the movie, and specifically how the ambush was portrayed, there are a few points that stick out for me. At about 7:37 in the clip above, you see the road beyond the car, but it curves in the completely wrong direction. Compare the actual road on google maps with that clip at 7:37 and you'll see what I mean. Then, notice that the cars in the ambush scene are oriented with the steering wheel on the wrong side for how we drive in the US. Finally, go to 7:22 on the clip and notice that all four of the shooters at the side of the road are firing from their left shoulder. Sure, maybe a lefty in the bunch, maybe even two, but all four???? Also, Costner is shooting lefty in that scene and Harrelson is righty, opposite what they do in any other film. What does all this mean? Well if we accept the often quoted comment from the stars in the movie about how that scene was filmed at the actual site, and then take into account that everything in the scene is completely backwards, it has to mean one thing. The film footage from that scene is reversed, loaded backwards, shown flipped over from how it actually was filmed. That's the only way everything works.
I'll be honest and say I didn't notice any of that the first time I watched the movie, but I picked it up watching this youtube clip. Good job to The History Squad, you have my subscription.

You state that they act like the rangers have been gone a long time and they were never disbanded. That’s not actually correct. True the numbers of Texas rangers fluctuates during the depression budget cut’s reduced ranks to a total of 45 rangers and in 1932 the Texas rangers publicly backed governor, Ross Sterling for reelection when he lost the election to Ma Ferguson the first thing she did in 1933 was discharge all remaining ranges. So there was no active Texas rangers anywhere. That’s why she was against bringing them in to catch them.

The Lawmen did not use .45 Caliber Tompsons because they would not penetrate a V-8 ford body. as was portraited in the movie. Maybe one day they will make an accurate movie about Bonnie and Clyde. My understanding is that there is no actual proof that Bonnie Parker ever shot anyone - the eyewitness who claimed she had been the one to shoot a wounded deputy was so far away he could only see silhouettes of 2 figures of which the shorter one did the shooting. Parker had been recently severely wounded and couldn't even walk so the actual shooter was almost certainly Methvin who was shorter than Barrow and was with the gang at that time - a known killer who got off 2 murder charges by helping to set up the fatal ambush. Also, in the real ambush there was no offer given to " stick'm up " - the posse just opened up on the car.

There are two photos of the car at the ambush site with a Remington 8 rifle, a B.A.R. rifle and 3 shotguns on the shot up car roof and policemen standing around. If you presume a 2nd BAR or a 2nd Remington 8 was the 6th firearm, then no lever rifle and no tommy gun were used. These weapons are not among the weapons in the photo of what was inside the car. Also the photos show the bullet holes in the front window glass as exit holes made by large mushroomed slugs (as compared to smaller primary entry holes in the rear driver side glass ). Ergo; No-one was standing in front of the car during the ambush. Hole patterns on the car door show a 9 pellet group spread from a 12 gage 00 buckshot. From which forensics can gage the distance the shooters were from the car door. The 9 pellet group has the holes centered in the missing paint chip, indicating the 90 degree perpendicular angle the shooter was from the car door, ergo; the first shots were shotgun blasts. The movie seems to show 4 men shooting somewhat "uphill" from a roadside ditch, which would put most rounds thru the metal of the door, But most shots were "Downhill" thru the glass. The victims were bodyshot but below the level of the window bottom. Other car door holes are "smeared", where the hole is not on center with the missing paint chip, and in a spray arc. indicating a full auto burst taken as the car appeared to start driving away, a low angle entry hole. Also, testimony said the very first shot was to Clyde's Head, presumably from the 35cal. Remington 8. The only semi-auto single projectile weapon, that can be verified to have been used by photo evidence. Although there are photos of Hamer with either a big magazine Remington 81, and a pistol grip Colt Monitor, no photos at the ambush scene show these types of weapons were present.

As a former active duty USMC artillery officer who spent a lot of time on patrols with our infantry units, I had to respond to your comment. What Hamer's team did in real life and in the movie is called an L-shaped ambush. This is a very common and highly effective tactic for ambushing an enemy on a road/avenue of approach you know they're going to use. The crossfire is in fact the desired effect as it means there is no cover for the intended targets from your fire. The shooters are each assigned a zone of fire and given visual markers past which they don't shoot to avoid friendly fire casualties. Put another way, an ambush is intended to kill everyone in the kill zone. Real life ambushes almost always result in the targets being killed or rendered combat ineffective in the first volley of shots. Everything after that is the product of adrenaline and every shooter's desire to make sure the targets stay down and combat ineffective.

For a movie trying to be more realistic than that actual original film , this movie has way too much made up bullshit in it😂 for example Clyde never bribed no police off !!!!! They didn't even steal large amounts of money from banks , they were just poor small timers , the most they ever stole from a single bank heist was about 2,300$ & they literally all had to all split it up 5-6 ways together as a gang plus they were always on the run constantly , they never laid low in once place for more than a few days at most & even that was rarely too!!!!! Most of the time they had to literally sleep in cars or in the woods at campsites that they handmade themselves!!!!! I read the novel "Public Enemies" & its the most accurate knowledge on all of this information about all the legendary 1930's era ban robber gangs!!!!! This is just a movie!!!!! The original 1967 film had its flaws that were different than this but it was also way more realistic overall even though they romanticized Bonnie & Clyde more than they should have in the original film but regardless that film is still more authentic & also a timeless masterpiece that single handedly created the R Rating in Cinema & the first to show actual graphic violence, this film is just.... "Good" at it's very best!!!!! The types of guns & gun sound effects is about the only more accurate thing about this film verses the original film😂
