Ah, good question. This is why these insurance companies pay their own in-house doctors to "review" certain claims. Naturally, any one of these doctors that approve even 30% of claims will soon find themselves looking for new jobs.
correct me if I'm wrong, for those in the older age range is where health insurance company make most of their money from. And medicare advantage is the worse. They're bloodsuckers taking advantage of the elderly.
Yes, and so long as our government forces us to have this awful system, instead of a public option, they should create legislation that delivers serious criminal consequences to those who use their pens to murder their customers.
As someone said : it’s not a left or right thing it’s an up and down thing. Decades of peaceful protests achieved nothing. This one act has changed all that.
Occupy got to close to the sun, so to speak, that's when the whole identity politics started being pushed hard to not only further divide political opposites, but also set a rift in the left itself.
I think that saying is helpful in getting partisan people to listen and have class consciousness, but at the same time it IS a left thing. We’ve been fighting for single payer universal healthcare for several decades. The right wing plan is to let corporations (the “free market”) run wild.
@Wraiven22 there you go falling into the left right thing again. This is an issue where common ground can be found from both sides. Democrats take money from health corporations just as much as Republicans. The thought of ordinary American people coming together on this issue terrifies Dems and Republicans alike.
My daughter has had 3 different types of cancer and has been cancer free for awhile…3 of her doctors want her to get a PET scan and it is being denied by her insurance for this STANDARD procedure. She is 52 and her youngest child is 13. She’s worked forever and has a great job …’good’ insurance and now this. If she dies… someone will ‘pay’. I’m 72 and will gladly give my life for her and for JUSTICE. Enough is enough. Our POLITICIANS are responsible too. I hope Luigi gets freed. ❣️
I'm so sorry your family is dealing with all that. I work in Oncology and fighting for PET CT scans is an ongoing battle we have. What is interesting is the insurance company denying the PET scan tells us that based on state guidelines, the patient doesn't qualify and needs a series of other scans that must state on the scan report that a PET CT is recommended for further evaluation. Basically stating that a regular CT scan can't provide the necessary information the doctor needs to treat the patient. Yet other insurance companies that also have to "folllow the state guidelines" approves PET scans all the time for patients with a history of cancer. We encourage our patients with difficult insurance to consider changing to a different plan. I know that's not always possible for people in other states or in other circumstances. If it is an option, I recommend asking your doctor (oncologist if it's issues with coverage for cancer related care) "which insurance do they have least problems with coverage or authorizations." Because we in healthcare are not supposed to recommend a specific insurance, we wouldn't be able to say "You should change to this insurance." But a general question of which insurances do you take and which are easiest to obtain authorizations would be sufficient for us to answer. At least in my office.
Can she get it in a private hospital in Mexico? It will not be a tenth of what it costs in USA. In Europe will be cheaper too but it is too far for you. Wishing you the best.
You shouldn't have to do this, but I seriously agree with the guy advising you to try it in Mexico, if you can get there cheaply.. Really sorry for your daughter. These current institutions will be crumbling soon... I just hope it's in time for you and yours!
I may be misinformed but companies like UHC purchased a high (mega bucks) end AI medical decision program to make or calculate insurance approval/deny decisions for coverage. We all know anything electrical can be manipulated or skewed to a favorable or unfavorable decision. Would UHC’s this tech software company also be responsible for bad medical decisions for patients? Technology has no empathy on human beings, it’s better at calculating profit/loss decisions than saving lives. Would be interested to see if this will covered doing his trial & see a insanity plea.
The reason it's $90k is because of the insurers who won't pay and the people who can't pay. They're making up the difference for the slim part of the time it does get paid. It does end at the insurance companies.

I'm a CNA and the things I saw in underfunded nursing homes absolutely traumatized me. On some nights the client-to-assistant ratio would be as high as 50 to 1. Our managers and nurses were so concerned about liabilities, regulations, and cutting costs, I'd frequently find ulcers or wounds on patients that had clearly been passed over by other staff but they were afraid to report it but they knew they'd be blamed for it and they'd have to fill out all the paperwork. Someone told me years ago, "You can't teach someone how to live until you've taught them how they'll die." Well I've seen what it looks like when someone is hours from death, and the utter neglect and loneliness they experience is beyond nightmarish. I can never forget the people I saw, the misery and despair on display, it was truly hellish and I wouldn't wish such indignities on my worst enemy.

The US has the most expensive Healthcare system in the world and you are getting absolutely no service from it. Here my insurance just pays for everything without me even beeing involved. I just recently found out, the medication I got prescribed was 400$ a month and I didn't even know. I've had a surgery at a hospital last month and I didnt even have to think about money or the payment process, all while, per capita we pay much less for healthcare, as all procedures and medications are reasonably priced here, as endurances actually get to negotiate the price
Pretty similar here in NZ. Private Health Insurance, Private Health hospitals etc exist for those that want to goldplate their care ...but they are expected by Gov to fulfill their Contracts with their Customers.
We put up with it because the ultra-wealthy control the US government and because they've done everything they can to make Americans terrified of anything they label as Communism.

I had United Healthcare last year in 2024. I needed an MRI by my doctor to check if a mass was cancer. I was denied MULTIPLE times until my doctor sent me out for ultrasounds. Luckily it wasn't a growing mass. After the CEO was killed and the lawsuit was made public about them using an AI to deny claims my blood ran cold. I cannot imagine the fights people have lost with healthcare that ended up in terminal cancer that SHOULD have been caught sooner. I was lucky and my thoughts are with people who have died or been denied care. Because that CEO left millions to his "kids" and "separated wife" so they will never know the hardship working class America feels, and always have access to clean water and healthy food not tainted by cooperate greed.

It's kind of frustrating watching all these capitalists throw their hands up and say "why is the system like this?" without realizing that it literally all circles back to capitalism. The pursuit of obscene profits is the single greatest destructive force in the world. It's led to countless deaths, the destruction of ecosystems, the extinction of entire species, the reduction in quality of life for hundreds of millions and it will continue because the people who have the power to enact change are the very people profiting from this dystopia
Sounds easy to put the entire blame on a single thing. I'm not saying everything you said is wrong. It's just not the entire picture. Capitalism has brought its own innovations. She thinks the people selling the policies are either doing a poor job explaining the $8000 deductable or aren't explaining it at all.

At the end of the day look at health statistics and people in England are healthier than Americans and have a longer life expectancy, so that kind of negates arguments that their system isn't better than USA's. But in-fact, we do pay high taxes: it's called healthcare insurance. So we pay "taxes" to corporations, not the government. I personally pay around 6k in "taxes" every year. And I'm single, with no children. It can go way, way up from there.
Kyle, I'm a boomer in my 70s now, but I'm more progressive than most young people! For-profit insurance companies have NO place in the healthcare delivery system, because the only way to make more profit is to pay for less healthcare! The simple solution to healthcare insurance - MEDICARE FOR ALL, Single Payer Not For Profit! I wouldn't be too concerned about the general public's lack of remorse in this incident. I'm sure there will be plenty of millionaire and billionaire mourners at his funeral, all secretly relieved that it wasn't them cut down on the street, as they increase their own security! I wonder what it is going to take to change their attitude toward the people of this country? As Bernie Sanders says, when 3 people control more wealth than 50% of the country, when will they not want even more at our expense? When is enough, enough for them? When United Healthcare makes 22 billion dollars PROFIT in one year of others suffering and the CEO gets 10s of millions of dollars in bonuses? Is that enough? If I was one of these billionaires stealing from the people, I would spend a LOT MORE time L@@KING over my shoulder with my head on a swivel! JFK articulated it best when he said that, if you make peaceful revolution impossible, you make violent revolution inevitable. Think about that in a country with more guns than people.
Even the so-called nonprofit companies like BCBS are no better. We need very strict regulations, limits on what the executives can make, a presumption of coverage if the treatment is recommended by a doctor, prohibiting insurance companies from practicing medicine without a license, liability for wrongful denial of coverage (the executives pay personally), standardized insurance contracts so that there is a lot less playing with the terms and conditions. That would help.
My mother. Who was dr.( when medicine was a profession) always said they had us so scared of socialized medicine. We ended up with something much worse Corp medicine
How much is too much for a CEO salary: 10 million, 1 billion, 100 trillion ...what is the number in which it becomes unconscionable and inexcusable? If this discussion is never allowed, don't be surprised that other outlets take form.
I was talking to a conservative at my work who said he did not want single payer because he did not want a government bureaucrat deciding their healthcare. I asked them if they decided or if an insurance company bureaucrat decided for them.
It has always blown my mind that conservatives hate the idea of the government having certain power over their health, but are more than happy to give that same power to private corporations whose stated goal is solely about making profit. At least with government you have a chance at accountability, but with corporations, they can legally screw you over as much as they want.
Yeah, I was skeptical of the government being able to manage Medicare for all. But it seems they are doing quite well. Just gonna have to hire a lot more people. Then just pay physicians and hospitals directly. Get rid of middlemen insurance companies. Their haggling over what they will cover and how much, is what has driven the costs so high. I have watched it happen.
Personally I’d rather have someone who isn’t looking for a bonus for saving money on my care. That bureaucrat would hopefully have some medical training to make an educated decision, not someone who’s just looking at profit margins.
@@justinegorski2703 I did say that to them too. That I would prefer a person who did not have a financial interest in denying me healthcare. Private insurance has too many incentives in place to deny care.
@@justinegorski2703 These decisions are made by call center employees who have NO medical training. The only training these employees receive is how to say no and stand their ground.
I'm an old white woman, living in a household of Republicans, who is a left leaning Independent, so I wouldn't be so quick to assume this man is a conservative. This poor man needs to ditch his Medicare Advantage and go to Traditional Medicare plus a supplement if he can afford it. Unfortunately if the Trump administration or Republicans in general have their way we will ALL be in this state because they would love nothing more than to Privatize Medicare which is "code" for Medicare Advantage Plans.
Yeah this is typical Kyle being young and immature. He's never been exposed to much. I like him. I listen to at least one of his podcasts a day, but he has no idea of what he's talking about with regards to this Floridian. I myself have lived in Florida for at least 20 years of my life both as a child and as an adult. I still have family in Florida - it can really go either way. And some people just vote for Trump because they get better tax breaks let's not forget that ( I know several retirees in Florida who do that). Kyle should not be making assumptions but he occasionally goes off on things he doesn't know of. Certainly will forgive him for that
Not easy to switch because he’ll need a Medigap supplement plan to pay for the copays. it is not as easy to enroll in Medigap outside of the Medigap Open Enrollment Period and a handful of other guaranteed issue periods. Without guaranteed issue, you’ll likely have to go through medical underwriting to enroll in a Medigap plan-and insurance carriers can reject your application based on your answers. He has a significant pre-existing condition.
Even if I didn’t qualify for a medigap plan , I would still leave the Advantage plans. Medical debt can be paid in small installments; which is better than being denied care.
My sister in law was the supreme denier of claims. Karma is catching up. Now she needs it but she's getting denied denied denied. Also got fired from the insurance company
Sad to say but I don’t feel bad for her. “Just doing your job” is an excuse the entire world decided was not valid after WW2. I’m sorry but your sister is a murderer by trade.
Claims Denial is NOT the only crime of the corporate system. It's the WHOLE sick insurance-run, employer-tied system that means, at any given time, millions of us are without the care needed to be healthy and productive citizens.
Medicare is WAYYY easier to deal with. The issue is that they just don't pay much. Srill, its not the worst thing to go to work, actually help people and collect a little money. The staff goes home and nobody needs to 'fight' with any insurance companies. The reimbursement is unfortunately just a small fraction of the money but no hassle.
I am a disabled woman taking opiates for 25 years. These meds literally are the only reason i can vacuum my apt, go shopping, do laundry. I will never be able to dance again. But in September, i was dx with 2 kinds of cancer found in my mammogram. One was a grade 0, the other, which was in my armpit, serious and deadly. One infusion therapy cost $32, 000. I had two hospitalizations, a mastectomy and lymphectomy. The week before Christmas, i was cancer free. I spent so much out of pocket costs in the first 3 months, my surgery and hospitalizations were paid by my insurance carrier. Aetna no longer carries that plan and now, a new year with new deductibles. I am filing bankruptcy. 4 months.
I wonder if you could claim political asylum in my country, Canada. I'm sure we could squeeze you in between treatments. And my guess is that you are more than employable. Apply.
If you owe hospital bills, I would try to call the hospital. Sometimes, you can negotiate to lower the bill. Bankruptcy could also cost you money and ruin your credit for 7 to 10 years. You should be able to qualify for SSDI if you live in the US and would qualify for medicaid.
Everything Mr Taylor said is true.I don’t condone violence but look how many people have died & are suffering because of these greedy unfeeling insurance companies it’s disgusting period. How they sleep at night is beyond me

My professor quit his private practice to teach because the insurance companies were so difficult to deal with he was getting a steadier paycheck with teaching
Dr Oz’s advocacy for Medicare Advantage over traditional Medicare and his financial ties to private insurers who stand to benefit from such a move is extremely concerning. that’s just one of at least several concerning things about that man’s ethics.
Yes. This. I hate that somebody was murdered, but health insurance is a nightmare that is not being addressed or talked about on mainstream media. So many people suffer and/or die because they cannot get the treatments that their doctors prescribe. We have people without medical licenses (and often with only a high school diploma) making medical decisions for patients they have never even met. This is insanity!
I had a severe episode of diverticulitis. I was 1 day away from getting health insurance with my new employer, so I worked that day to make sure it was active, then had my roommate drive me to the ER. I had to have a partial colectomy. I was lucky that I managed to get the treatment and surgery covered, but it never should have required me to wait for coverage so I wouldn't be burdened with tens of thousands of dollars of medical debt. This happened in my early 30's and I already have tens of thousands in student loan debt. Healthcare is a scam that costs lives. So-called higher education is also a scam. The Scam Economy is real folks and we're the marks
Same happened to my husband he ended up wearing colostomy bag for long time had to fight to get reversal surgery. He almost died twice it was torture. And our supervisors at work wanted my husband to work thru the pain. He would have died for sure. They sure know how to rob and twist the knife.
Former UHC employee. I was treated very well until I needed my coverage. I had dual coverage. I was covered under my husband insurance as well. I was having a lot of abdominal pain for months. Turns out I had gallstones, and because of how many I had and their size, I needed surgery. UHC refused to pay because I was covered under my husband. I had never had this problem before. I was able to attend all my specialists and never have to pay a copay or coinsurance because my husband's plan would cover that part. My husband's insurance ended up covering everything besides the coinsurance, which was 20%. It took months and hrs of phone calls, denials, talking to several people, and going into Karen mode to get my reimbursement. Thank God for my husband's insurance. The claim was reprocessed, and my husband's insurance was also reimbursed.
Why is it not considered medical malpractice for people without medical degrees to be making medical decisions?
Because of corruption
It is I believe. They arent making medical decisions, they’re just not paying for procedures. Functionally the same thing though
In my country the minister of health was a used car salesman. True story.
Ah, good question.
This is why these insurance companies pay their own in-house doctors to "review" certain claims.
Naturally, any one of these doctors that approve even 30% of claims will soon find themselves looking for new jobs.

Your politicians are ok with it 'couse their arent subjicated to the same malpractices as ordinary citizens!
*sorry for bad english

$90k for an appendectomy is absolutely ridiculous. It doesnt end with the insurance companies.
Exactly!
The reason it's $90k is because of the insurers who won't pay and the people who can't pay. They're making up the difference for the slim part of the time it does get paid. It does end at the insurance companies.
Agreed……..the hospitals, doctors, and other Medical Facilities charge way, way too much!

Mangione is a symbol of what's wrong with our health care system. My sister needed back surgery after years of pain. Medicare Advantage plan denied. Next step was an appeal where the Dr spoke with the insurance company. Denied. The Dr said for her to come to the ER after 8pm. I drove her there. She was admitted and had her surgery the next morning. Insurance paid. This occurred in Seattle, WA.

@snafu2barb not just the health system. There is an algo running on everything we use or consume. Wee someone goes homeless rents go up to compensate to shareholders and executives
I’m hearing more and more attorneys, doctors, healthcare workers, all coming out with the truth.
Why is it even legal for policy holders to pay their premiums when they get no benefit? Same for homeowners in Florida. Its legalized theft. We need to fix this sh*t.
It’s crazy, people pay premiums, pay co-pays, pay co-insurance, pay deductible, pay out of pocket, pay in network benefits, pay out of network benefits. What the fudge insurances pay?
Imagine if everyone dropped their insurance. How long b4 we could bankrupt these companies. We have no coverage anyway you look at it
I don't pay shit lol. Never have never will.
I bet all my money, that a bunch of our local, state, and federal representatives OWN the insurance companies.
It is fixed, it's just fixed against you. The system has always been designed that way. At least they can't deny you for preexisting conditions anymore. Now they just decide to not pay.
Physician here who watched my salary drop again because United and 2 other companies dropped our reimbursement again. Yes I’m not homeless on the streets but I averaged about 5 hours a week more work and took a 25% hit in my salary. I am in a much better area and generally don’t see patients get refusals but I practice in an area where patients have already been approved. Five years ago I watched patients get denied more than covered. Our system must change and it can the easy way or a violent way. I’m just waiting to see what way our leaders choose.
Do no harm ❤

It's time for a revolution.
Wouldn't it make sense to make the insurance companies non-profits? They would administer the payments but have no "profit" motive.

She has also been running into instances where people are sold policies and don't understand their policy has an $8000 annual deductable. She thinks the people selling the policies are either doing a poor job explaining the $8000 deductable or aren't explaining it at all.

I just watched the amazing documentary Sicko, by Michael Moore, where he goes in-depth into the inner workings of the healthcare system in England (and a few other countries). You guys are so fortunate. One of the main criticisms we always hear from those on the right regarding universal care is the crazy amount of time one must wait before actually receiving care. This, however, did not seem to be the case in any of the places Moore visited. I was just wondering what your experience has been throughout your life, if you don't mind me asking. TNX!

@@DanHarkins-jk9mi There are longer wait times for non-emergent care, and that can lead to living with discomfort (things like joint replacement surgeries etc) longer than you might if you lived in the USA and could afford healthcare, but if there's something you need done it gets done. At the end of the day look at health statistics and people in England are healthier than Americans and have a longer life expectancy, so that kind of negates arguments that their system isn't better than USA's.
And the whole wait times argument completely ignores the fact that the wait times for many Americans is infinite. About 75 million Americans either don't have health insurance or can't afford to use their health insurance (can't pay the deductibles/copays) so their wait time for care they need is often literally "forever".
@@DanHarkins-jk9mi I've been to the NHS multiple times while visiting family in England. I never had to wait more than 30 minutes for anything.
If you owe hospital bills, I would try to call the hospital. Sometimes, you can negotiate to lower the bill. Bankruptcy could also cost you money and ruin your credit for 7 to 10 years. You should be able to qualify for SSDI if you live in the US and would qualify for medicaid.
NORMALIZE CLASS WARFARE
Yes, make their nights sleepless.
Everything Mr Taylor said is true.I don’t condone violence but look how many people have died & are suffering because of these greedy unfeeling insurance companies it’s disgusting period. How they sleep at night is beyond me

Luigi, one man, has made the American people wake up to their lived reality regarding the healthcare system, and it's about time.
My great-grandmother used to refuse to go to the hospital saying she had Medicare and at her age they would keep her in and bill until they couldn’t bill anymore….saying they would kill her if they had to. She was part of the silent generation and I can see the truth of her words now
My professor quit his private practice to teach because the insurance companies were so difficult to deal with he was getting a steadier paycheck with teaching
Dr Oz’s advocacy for Medicare Advantage over traditional Medicare and his financial ties to private insurers who stand to benefit from such a move is extremely concerning. that’s just one of at least several concerning things about that man’s ethics.
It's not a bug it's a future
You're right. From what I know about Oz, he touts snake oil to people who believe what he says just because he is called "doctor".
He's also a Turkish nationalist. Too many people everywhere with questionable loyalties.
Traditional Medicare is cheaper. Dr Oz’s opinion is nutty.
We need to stop calling him "Dr" Oz, he's not an actual doctor any more than Cap'n Crunch is a real navy captain
I'm a Boomer that uses Facebook, but I'm not conservative nor do I belong to the extreme right. I stand with Luigi.
Freedom shouldn't be about a political party. Freedom belongs to all of us.
Me also!
Me too you are not alone
Luigi exposed those criminals
If I was on Luigi jury I would side with Luigi
Thank you Luigi for exposing by shedding light on the crooky healthcare companies
Thank you for sharing this story! More stories need to be heard. We need to put the screws on these health care deniers.
Yes.
Murder is wrong, but self-defense and defense of others is not wrong.
Thanks for defending us Luigi 😢

FREE LUIGI!!! HE SPOKE FOR MILLIONS OF US!!! How many times can you beat a dog before he bites you?!?
Sad, the US should be leading in health care providing, not profiting from the citizens.
