These were so much better looking I-H Travelalls than there version of the later I-H square bodies Travelalls of the 70's IMHO ! Seems like the Govt. was a big purchaser of these in the 60's especially the Air Force . I always saw them in background pictures , & I would see them in vintage Airstream pictures towing there travel trailers , & on occasion at construction sites ,of course I was just a kid back then ! & I never saw that many around neighborhoods were I grew up . I think your 1961 I-H is in pretty good shape , & is a pretty clean slate ! & if it were mine I'd keep it the factory colors . Thanks for the video.

Very nice. We used them for highway location & relocation surveys. Wonderful large windows - the gear shift takes a little getting used to but remarkably precise. A couple of ours had a slight problem in that the passenger side rear door would fly open when the frame was torqued. Over all, though, I loved the truck.

Super nice. I have been keeping my eyes open for one of these old bulletproof beasts. A friend I had years ago had one and I was totally impressed where we took this thing.

one of my favorite lifetime vehicles was a 1968 IH travelall, that was a mountain town ambulance in Colorado, 4x4, lifted, xtra lighting, just love my memories of that amazing truck from my dad, thanks for showing yours!

Wow! Yours is in such good shape. I have a 1961/6cyl/4speed. It has so much rust, I am starting to wonder if it's worth restoring. I love the attention it gets. It is really fun to drive around town. I have one 60 second video of me pressure washing off all the moss and mold.

I would love either of those. Still looking in my area for a decent one to bring back to life.

I just bought a '63 Travelall-2WD/V8/Manual. It's an east coast rig so it needs a lot more work than this, but you're giving me a lot of inspiration!

My hunch is when the weight distributing trailer hitch went on, it interfered with the main fuel tank under the rear floor. You have the gapping filler neck hole in front of the passenger's front door. On my 1969 pick up the auxiliary gasoline tank was snugged up against the cab floor, under the passenger's seat. The main tank filler was on the left rear corner of the cab. I cannot recall if the main tank was behind the driver's seat or under the cab. When I had a big trailer hitch installed, it took out the spare tire rack under the pick up bed. Have fun!

Nice, SOLID looking truck. Before going down the path of a color change, how about a sympathetic exterior paint recovery? You might be surprised at what's left.
I agree, there was something about those 61-63 front ends that was just a little more graceful.

My 58 had the same crime trim line.

The rear gas tank was an option but was dealer installed. The plastic trim is stock, my 61' had it but it was all broken.

Any info on a 61 travelette transfer case shifting ? Maybe a video of that would be cool. Trying to figure one out that seems to be stuck in low range as top speed is about 40 mph . That is a sweet project ,very complete .
