Yup, the kefeeya has been politicized, but, so was the Southern Cross. At one time it was the Battle Flag of the Republic, now it represents slavery. Pro Palestinians need to just live with it, it has been politicized by wearing it prominently at demonstrations.

Yeah exactly. I got gifted a kaffiyeh like 2 or 3 years ago by a wonderful Palestinian family. Have not worn it in recent months precisely because it can be read as spreading a very hateful political message.

The choice of what I wear should not be controlled by the government; that's not the mark of a true democracy. While it's reasonable to restrict indecent exposure, traditional garments like the kiffiya are worn proudly by millions around the world. Banning such attire is an affront to democratic values and deserves to be challenged. I have little optimism for politicians who support such measures.
Keffiyahs are more identified with Yasser Arafat and the PLO, who popularized them, than as traditional garb of any Arab group.
If they get banned how will we know how to spot 1st year college students!
