I’ve owned an AWD Performance BYD Seal for a few weeks now and I love it. It’s a difficult car to drive slowly (efficiently) as it’s such fun to drive. I have the bi-directional charging hooked up to my solar system to power my house at night, so it’s like getting 6 Tesla PowerWalls free with the car - videos on my channel for the doubters.
Have you found that wire yet? You know the one to stop that God awful pedestrian sound generator? Especially the ice cream truck sound, why does BYD make it so loud! Apart from that, BYD is quite good.
There is an update I’ve seen online that has more sound options and the ability to switch it off apparently, but I don’t have it yet as it’s not an OTA. Here in Thailand the sound is not that loud, I can’t hear it inside the car.
@TotallyElectric Good to know thanks, hopefully they also add one pedal driving, that's the other thing it needs, Tesla did it though an OTA update, so hopefully BYD can as well
I always wonder, to test the actual travel range of a full charge, the drive mode should always be set to Eco. This setting is seldom mention in EV range testing.
As a car owner in China, I picked up the car in May this year. Of course, I purchased a low range version only available in the Chinese market, with a nominal range of 550KM (battery capacity of 62KW/h) in China. Because I have my own garage, I rarely use fast charging stations similar to those in Europe, Normally, I use BYD's free home charging station (7KW) (although its installation is done by BYD's third-party company, which requires payment). Based on my several months of use in Shanghai, I can drive it for about 350-400 kilometers when fully charged (depending on your driving habits and the weather conditions at the time, as temperature can affect the battery's discharge efficiency), Every time I have 40% of my battery remaining, I charge my car at night. Generally, I set the charging start time to 23:00 until the battery is fully charged (well, China's night time civilian electricity is only 0.32 RMB/KW from 22:00 to 6:00). If I use a high-voltage DC charging station, it can be charged to over 90% in about 30-45 minutes.
The han is great but the seal is my favorite. Better overall package and the newer software on the Seal makes a big difference. I'd save the 20.000€ and go with the Seal.
I think EU people have met BYD before, just check out all the e-buses around, lots of them might be BYDs. In Canada, TTC shovel off the BYD stickers from the e-buses, so that normal people dont know it's BYD.

And the irony of that comment - while driving on an almost sunless overcast day where the last rays of sunshine are barely managing to squeeze their way beneath the clouds. 🤣 (I think it was supposed to be as much of a dig at local weather as that in the UK?)
I do not really like the integrated seat, but I guess it is just that I'm not used to it. Btw, I wonder why no armrests? they sure take up space but they are so comfortable while driving!
Yes, it is, indeed however, do take into account that I use noise-canceling microphones and edit to make sure speech is clearly recognizable, despite my accent 😉
Amazing review, like & sub. Do you have any idea about the real world range and consumption? During my test drive three weeks ago I had the following disadvantages: - The climate controls are not accessible from Android Auto through a shortcut or navigation bar - Irritating artificial noise below 30 km/h - Disabling the speed limit warning is not that user-friendly and is hidden between most settings. At Tesla this can simply be done on the main screen
Thanks Nick, I hope to have the car for a week sometime early January and will do plenty of range and charging tests. I’ve tried to seal in the past, but they have now updated the software and the artificial noise below 30 km an hour is only there when you’re in reverse, they have also made it easier to disable the speed limit warning, but they should do it like in the new Tesla Highland, where it’s a shortcut directly on the screen. I hope to see you back here again with my next review.
Well, if it's 3 phase 11kw, you better hope it also supports single phase 7.2kw charging at home, or it will only charge at 3.3kw if you use a single phase 7.2kw charger.
@@gregb1599 I have both. A Time of Use meter at 3 phase hookup (special offering from my electricity providor expressly for EV charging. 11kw. That's through a Tesla wall mount. It will do 11kW on a three phase and 7.4 on a single phase. Previous BYD models were only able to charge on a single phase, but this one can do both one and three phase charging

Good point. I use the mode that gives the longest range without taking away any heating or Aircon functionality
