Really enjoyed this episode! It felt like such a great example of the reasons why I dig the channel. True running vlog, great info on the shoe and awesome videography (epic drone parallax shots!). 👏
What a fantastic production! You captured the moment Seth!! Can't wait til this evening to lace em up! Look forward to getting to Boston! Thanks so much!!
QD: like a glove! For the most part. If Hoka and Saucony had a shoe child… my feet would be happy!
Best start to one of your vids!
I gotta keep my eyes peeled out there for ya - runnin' all my usual routes! Keep it comin Seth! :)
Hoka got me into running as a hobby and not just to get in shape. I’ve since moved on to other brands and shoes I like more, but I’ll always look fondly at my Clifton’s. They’re admittedly on the narrow side, but I like the snug tight-all-around fit from my track and soccer/football days.
Edit: thank you Seth for featuring this comment!
QOD: hoka actually fit great for me. Especially material used in Mach 5 and most of trail shoes, the 5mm drop, and the way they have a glove like fit but yet allows feet/toes to expand while running.
Great to hear!
Loved my first run in the shoes are waiting a long time for a Hoka super shoe.
Hoka wide shoes options fit me well. Wearing the Hoka shoes helped get me back into running. I’ve tried a fair amount of other brands and Hoka just seems to work best for my feet.
Henry is special. My husband had his pacemaker the day Henry was born.
Omgs!!! This is such a great video!!! I can't find anything close to Clifton 6 and this shoe would def be the closest to Clifton 6!!!! Thank you!!!!! Gotta try them and hopefully Ill love them as much as those!🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️👟🥇
QD: Fit with Hoka road shoes is on the narrow side for me. My feet are a little wider and higher volume than average I would say. Still like very much the Speed Goat 4 & 5 for trail and winter running. Onward and Upward DGR!!
Great to hear!
Bought the Hoka ceilo x ld for my 15 year old boy who is running indoor track. The new foam in those are great for his 1600 m and 3200 m. Also wore for his 800m. He loves how responsive and cushioned those are. Hoping to pick him up a pair of rocket x 2’s before the Salt Lake City 10k and Bloomsday 7.5 mile in Spokane WA ! Fit his feet perfectly!
First Hoka was the rocket X and managed my first sub 3 marathon in them. Later on Mach 4 joined my rotation and still in it. I have a bigger size in them but Hoka is my most comfortable brand, especially at the toe space ☺️
Hey nice hat with the Polartec logo!!! I've worked for Polartec for 25+ years.
Great perspective, Seth. Seeing your storage full of older shoes I cannot help but feel like DGR (and fam) could do more to get those on the feet of runners! I know you do this to some capacity already, but hoarding anything is unfair, especially when less privileged folks could be using them. Thanks as always for the content!
You must be new here! He will never give away those precious shoes. Needs to keep all of them on the off chance he can reference a pair in a vlog five years from now.
If I get a pair of Hokas, I need to wear a different insole with them rather than the normal sock liner that comes in. Otherwise I can feel the lateral/medial sides of the shoe wall hitting my foot. The different insole raises my foot up just enough to not feel that but still get solid lock down
QD: Hokas fit my feet fabulously, but they aren’t necessarily the most fun for me to run in (to be fair, I’ve only tried the Mach 4 and the Carbon X 2). My Mach 4 have ended up my go-to casual wear shoe, and if I can do a little running when traveling, great, they get the job done.
QD: I personally had a tough time with the Clifton 8 specifically because of the way their insole was shaped it rubbed against my arch. Excited to see what hoka has coming soon though
I have the same problem with the Clifton. Tried them at a demo night and loved them other than the issue with my arch being constantly poked.
I ordered Hoka's 4 times, and all of them were returned. Hoka indeed has the worst last of all brands.
solid beats, during the running footage.., lively
If you say Hoka backwards, it sounds like a sneeze.
you're more talented than me!
Please let this be comment if the day! 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
@@ScootsRuns please Seth, please!
QOD: Hokas fit me me like glove! Absolutely love my Speedgoat5.
I’ve had two pairs of the Mach 4 and they both fit great in 11.5. I wear 12 in other brands like Brooks and Salomon
QOD: Usually run in Saucony shoes. Happened into some Hoka Rincon 3s, and really like them. Nice and light.
QOD - Hi Seth I had the mach 4s and now have the mach 5s and absolutely love them, the 5s I'm wearing now fit like a glove 😀 however I was bought the clifton 8s for Xmas and do not get on with them, the toe box feels tight and I get a lot of rubbing.
Most people say the mach range are really narrow but I think my feet are on the wider side and they fit perfectly 🤷♂️
QoD: Got 3 pairs of Hokas (Clifton 7, Rincon 3 and the Rocket X) and they all fit very well. With a caveat though, I always buy half a size bigger than other brands (so usually UK8 but Hokas in UK8.5).
I found that most running brands are more consistent when you use the US size anyway so that would make sense!
love the timelapse!
also, nice shoe.
seek beauty!
QOD: I love Hoka shoes, I trained for my first half marathon in the Bondi 7's and have the speedgoat 5 for trail running. They feel fine, but every time I run in them I get blisters regardless of what I do to try to prevent it.
I had the Hoka Clifton 5 and the original Hoka Carbon X. When I first put them on, those shoes felt great, but once I started running in them, they were always tight and uncomfortable, no matter how I laced them.
Upsize
Hoka fits me the best of any brand by far and these days they are the only running shoe brand I wear for both road and trail.
Hoka and Asics fit me perfectly!
LOL that Butter mug!!!!! Hoka fit me in a weird way. They rub my foot in front of my instep.I found if I wear 2 pair of thin socks, it is OK. I would like to wear a speedgoat though.
everything tastes better in a butter mug
QOD: typically, yes, HOKAs do fit. Mach 4 (butter), SG5 (meh-ok), MafateSpeed4 (fantastic). It's Salomon that poses bigger challenges in the toebox (found the new SenseRide5 too narrow now for my feet, bummer).
Great to hear!
QD: Yes, Hoka shoes tend to fit my feet perfectly. While I don't run in them exclusively, I often include at least one Hoka in my rotation. Currently rotating Asics NB2 for easy/long runs, Hoka Challenger ATR 6 for trails, and Mach 5 for tempo/speed/daily training.
Used my wife’s challenger 6 on a few light trail runs when I didn’t have my kicks and think they’re absolutely awesome.
QD: I have a very narrow foot, and some Hokas fit better than others for me. My favorite hoka shoes in terms of fit are the Rincon 3, Mach 4 (Mach 5 felt a bit looser for me. Still a good fit, but not amazing), and Speedgoat 5. I don't really get on with the clifton or bondi that well because of the arch.
I also work at a shoe store, and Hoka is by far our #1 brand for people who are just walking around or on their feet all day. There are tons of people who really love them, but also a decent number that just don't like them, either for the fit or the drop, or something else. we also sell a lot of Hokas in wide widths. we don't actually get as many fast runners coming into the store as I would like, but it feels like the ones we do get are less likely to go for a hoka.
I want to wear Hoka but they are just a little too narrow in the toe for me. They fit great everywhere else.
Have run in most of them since the beginning..they are wider on the outsole than when they started but some models are not any wider inside than the OG..they are very inconsistent from year to year..seems to be non stop tinkering without a destination in mind..the only hoka I still use is the speedgoat and its still probably their best shoe..
Would this be a shoe of choice over the vaporfly if you had a race tomorrow? 5k up to marathon. 🤔
Great video! Especially since it's a first impression run video. I realized something yesterday while looking at reviews of a shoe I was interested in. I have become spoiled by how through your reviews are. Your first impression videos can be more helpful than others' full reviews. Keep up the great work. Onward an upward!
QOD: I've run in a few versions of the Clifton, the current Mach 5 and the discontinued Vanquish 3 and all have fit me. I do like more of a drop than the 5mm that Hoka's have but it's not a deal breaker for me
QOD: yes, Hokas fit my feet quite well despite having much narrower than normal feet. The Mach 5 is currently my gotto daily trainer, I've also gotten a number of good miles out of the original Rocket X. Starting with the Clifton 6 back in 2019, in my opinion Hokas, in general, have gotten better over time.
How do you compare the foam to the current Rebel?
QOD: I have had several pairs of the Mach 4 and Rincon but can only run up to about 8 miles in then before my toes start to hurt. I think they run a little short.
The stack is 40 mm in the heel and 35 in the forefoot. If you didnt find the stats yet.
I use hoka for working I'm on my feet all night, I would like to try the rocket 2. Run ON!!!!!!
:QD: No, Hoka have always been too narrow for my foot. Even their wide fits were too narrow. I've run 1,000 mi combined between the Clifton 6/7, Rincon 1, and Bondi 7 but was always wishing for more width. Having tried on the Clifton 8, Rincon 3, and Bondi 8 I can say that they seem to be trending in the wrong direction. The toe box felt tighter than before, encroaching more on my big toe.
Is this the first peba shoe for hoka?
I have tried on Hokas multiple times (I want them to fit!) but I have never bought a pair because they have always been too tight.
these are snug
I like the fit of the Clifton, but I preferred the 8 to the 9 (toebox feels a smidge narrower). Can't get along with the Bondi 7 (too wide) or 8 (pinky toe rubbing). Love the fit of the Mach 4 and 5, which is odd because I'd think the last should be more narrow given it's a speedy shoe. Speedgoat 5 is borderline too snug for me, but the ride is too good for me not to wear it 😅
COMMENT OF THE DAY!!!
Make sure you watch tomorrow
QD: Hoka is my go-to for road running, but TBH Altra fits better overall. What I really look for is zero or 4-5mm drop and just enough cushion to keep the feet happy.
QOD: Yeah! I love their shoes. I am curious to try other brands, but I really only run in Hoka. Don't fix what ain't broke (:
QoD. I need to re-try Hoka. The Tor Speed 2 i had were'nt for me at all. I feel i might have judged them too harshly lol
QD: I’m not actually sure how hokas fit me: I had (and still have) a pair of the Clifton 4s a really long time ago and I like how they feel. Didn’t run in them too much though. I have a lot of friends who like hoka so I’ve been meaning to pick up a pair. I’m thinking I’ll try the Machs sometime soon (especially after yesterday’s blog)
I had a pair of Clifton 7, tried them on in the store, but when I ran in them they were way too narrow for my feet across the ball. I put 30km in them and gave them away
QOD: most hoka shoes are too narrow for me - usually cut off the pinky toe too soon - however the original CarbonX was okay (but then next version wasn’t) add the original RocketX was good too. But all others have been too narrow in the toe box
Where I can buy the durometer?
No go on the Hoka for me. PF in a week or less. But also feel it has less to do with the last and more a combo of their midsole/last combo. Perhaps with something with. Durometer like this guy, it could work 🤷♂️ thanks for the early look!
QOD: I’ve only run on the rincon 1&2 and the Mach 4’s. Both fit fine but their lifespan was lack luster.
QOD: started with asics cumulus 18, kinvara7, nike pegasus turbo... then cliston 6... then all succeeding shoes are all hokas for me.. rincon1 twice, rincon3, carbon x1, x2 and evo speedgoat....
want to buy another evo speedgoat but cant find it anymore...
Офигенные ощущения подниматься в этом казике))начал по чуть чуть, но в итоге вынес почти 10К
What brand are those sun glasses Seth always wears? The big wrap around ones.
Smith, i think
@@stuartgarrett5692 use to be Smith, but I kept losing them, these are cheap- ones off Amazon....I'll have to look up the name once I have a pair on
Hoka Trails feel a little small on my feet comparing to other brands. I always go up 0,5 - 1 unit. The Machs however feel perfect. Especially the latest one.
Qod. I find more hokas fit my feet than not. Once in a while I’ll put one on and be like woah not this one. But these days I can usually tell by looking if they’re going to be a good fit.
Who has time to take their kids to IHOP before school on a school day?! We are lucky if we manage to get in a few eggs and teeth brushed !
for real!
Rocket x v1 fits good
Speed Goat 5 is a perfect fit, Carbon X is a perfect fit, ordered Tecton X on line, same size as usual (Epic Fail… Too big 😢)
Вот это я понимаю казик! Выглядит офигенно и окуп идет) классно!!!
Nice Carbon-Footprint you have.
QOD: got 3 pairs of Hoka, all work well with my feet
QD: Hoka’s are too narrow in toe box and around top of my foot
Where is that butter mug from!
V1 is still my treadmill shoe for speedy sessions.💥👌
Great to hear!
Me too - the RocketX is a great treadmill shoe and really helped me learn how to increase my cadence
Try as I might to not like my Mach 5's, I can't pull it off. They are a fast shoe on my feet.
QOD: I like Hoka in theory. I like the ride, I like the weight, I like the brand, I like the feel and the fit of the upper on most of their models, I like the rubber placement... but then when I try to run in the traditional models (Clifton, Rincon), there is something about either the rocker or the side walls that seriously hurts my feet to the point where I was getting hurt on my left leg/knee because I had to adjust my foot strike so it wouldn't hurt. The Mach 4 gave me no issues and I made my way thru two pairs, but the low durability is appalling. Another shoe reviewer out there discussed the durability and said something along the lines of replacing shoes every 250 miles, but that's not sustainable at all. Not for the environment, and certainly not for the wallet. I still recommend Clifton to new runners and walkers (with the caveat that they should try them in stores to see if it works for them), but it's back to Pegasus for me.
I’m sorry, but a trail closed sign should be responded to by saying “ challenge accepted” and continuing forward, not turning around.
สุด
QD: They don’t! I always want Hoka to work for me and have had Clifton 6, two sizes of the Rincon 2, Speedgoat 4 and Mach 4 and they just haven’t worked for my feet. Mach 4 probably the best fit but didn’t love the ride. Loved the Rincon but fit wasn’t right (always tempted to try in wide).
I want to love them but just have never felt right for me.
QD: Hoka does not work with my feet. The Clifton 7s were my last Hoka. Broke two of my toenails off and it was 18 months before they grew back straight! #HokaHesitant
QD: I’ve owned & run in Clifton7&8/Challenger6&7/Mafate3/StinsonATR/Arahi4/Speedgoats4 - I might have issues. #HokaForLife
QOD: I wear Hoka Cliftons for my everyday, out and about shoes. I wear the Machs for my running shoes. Big fan of the brand.
And thanks for making me comment of the day yesterday!
Thanks for sharing, they've risen so well!
QD: hokas somehow really work for me, drop, rocker, fit...
Henry content 😄
can't beat it! hope you're well Sam!
@@SethJamesDeMoor doing great Seth, and thanks for all the great content! Can’t wait for the season! Take care 💪🏻
Coffee shot, tick. Have you tried a video without a coffee shot?
Mach 5 barely fit, the Rincon line is a non-starter. Side of the foot literally hangs off the edge of the shoe and causes supination while walking. The Hoka Rocket X fits like the Mach 5 and cliftons are too tight across my midfoot. So in general, no they do not work for me feet.
Mach 6 going to be fun!
Hi Seth - been a subscriber for several years and enjoy the content and videography. Just wondering if you’re sure you want to promote Paula Deen?
My foot also doesn’t work with their last.
Quick recovery after a tough ultra. That implies your cross training is working. 💪
Стараюсь играть сейвово, хоть и тянет заолынить) у тебя учусь, пока получается классно!)
Как же классно ты шаришь в этом сайте) очень советую попробовать тактики этого чела!) они работают
4:22 i hate that they make build work for years and close the trails roads
QOD: No Hoka’s do not fit my feet. Too narrow in toe box even in a wide & they give me blisters on my arches.
Офигенное место! Реально приятно играть и баблишко по чуть-чуть идет))
“5:53” on per mile speed?! That’s crazy!
Seth Is a beast man I can do 7 34 a mile but not 5:53
Hokas are definitely very narrow in the forefoot, even the wide option.
Подрезал у тебя несколько фишечек по этому сайту) ну пока все работает. надеюсь и дальше будет ок)
Hoka hands down has the best fit among all the running shoe companies today. However, they also hands down have the most outdated midsoles compared to every other running company out there; only Brooks comes a close second.
I think Hoka gets away with it because a lot of runners (especially the more casual ones) buy their shoes not knowing that they are getting essentially 8 year old midsoles
Обязательно проверьте этот казик! Он четко работает и дает стабильный окуп)🦍
Hokas don't work for me. The combination of thickness, squish, and lack of flexibility gives me hot spots on the forefoot starting at around 4-5km. Same with plated shoes. My foot just wants to do different things. I used to run in the Nike Free 3.0 in the past so maybe my feet got used to being foot loose and fancy free..
Hokas do not fit my feet. I like them as shoes, but just don’t work for me. I have found New Balance to be a better fit.
Good to know Duke, a little narrow in the midfoot?
@@SethJamesDeMoor yes
Hokas are too narrow, I've tried but it's just too uncomfortable.
