Thank Goodness for Fantail tips. Thankyou so much... you've helped us so many times. My chooks eat your cruciferous sprouts we've spread them everywhere and they pick away contented. There are not enough words so once again I'll just say Ta very much from the Manawatu!

@@FantailValleyHomestead It is interesting. I have 14 active eaters but they never destroy the plants. They leave enough for them to grow back.. as you know it is late winter and tucker is a bit spare but they don't eat them all up. There is new growth and I suppliment with a cup or 2 of layer pellets so they never feel starved. I love my chickens :) I feel like we have worked out a good feeding regime. We are getting closer to self sufficiency all the time. I need to butcher a teg soon. any thoughts or video on that would be great! :)

It amazes me that acts like spraying massive amounts of poison is not illegal. I feel the same way about invasive animals and plants being unregulated. Yet, all efforts are focused on banning firearms. Politicians are insane.

Hi, is spraying hay with the herbicides common in NZ? I’m pretty new to this but was considering getting hay in for livestock at some stage

@@cowboy2180 yup worth asking if the field has been sprayed at all in the last couple of years, they will know! Lots of places also don't spray

@@FantailValleyHomestead great advice, thank you. Simple when you know , not ideal when you don’t

If you are determined to avoid artificial spray look for ORGANIC HAY. Expect to pay a premium.
The reason for spraying is that thistle are a serious pest and cause significant hay loss. Also the seed will happily germanate on YOUR place and give you a big weed problem.
Note: thistles love high fertility ground and will out grow the grass quickly. The stand of thisles will be so thick that stock will go around not through them.
