I've been thinking for a while that Ali Stroker makes sense for the role. I know there are other actresses who use wheelchairs with the chops, but I think her "first actress to use her wheelchair on Broadway" and "first actress who uses a wheelchair to win a Tony" credentials really put her up there. That's if they keep Nessarose as a singing part, of course. (Plus, slightly less relevant the longer this process goes on, but there absolutely is still the "Wait, wasn't she in Glee that one time?" factor for some in the general audience.)
I know this video is like 6 months old but can I offer up Alice Fearn and Sophie Evans who played Elphaba and Glinda in the west end 2017-19 together. I had the privilege of seeing them and they are my favourite pair out of 8 that I've seen. Both have done screen acting. Thoughts?!?!?
Unpopular opinion: I think they should cast an unknown actress as Elphaba (or a lesser known one), I feel like it would add something special if the cast wasn’t all celebrities.
As long as she can act, and ESPECIALLY sing, and sing well, I'd b good, tho I'd have someone who's actually played elphie do it. Or Ari G, she'd work for me too
I also don't want a direct from stage adaptation, I want more scenes from the book and I want to see Dorothy and Toto I hated the fact they didn't show Dorothy at all in TBE show except in dilute and her crying and Toto barking.
I was just about to say this! I am sick to death of musical movies being all/mostly big names who can kinda sing the roles instead of unknowns who will knock it out of the park
YES!! I feel like they should try and cast BIPOC mostly but the Wizard has to be yt. Wonderful SCREAMS “straight yt man”. But he’s also so charismatic?? NPH could do it in his sleep
I love Ariana with my whole heart but not as Elphaba!!! I think it’s difficult to separate ari from any Broadway roll because she’s so.. ari. I feel like there’d be way too many riffs 🥺 Dove for Glinda though, 100%! I always wanted Lea Michele to be Elphie but not after the scandals this year, no thank u
It's true though. He was the baker in into the woods, he was in cats, he's going to be in the prom, it's basically just a requirement to have him in there somewhere
and for all the people who are going to be like (spoiler alert) "but she has to walk" Many wheelchair user (including myself) can walk and many other disabilities don't impair one's ability to walk but would still make for more authentic casting.
@@MeredithAleighaWells I've long wanted Ali Stroker to play Nessa, but realistically, I know that the walking scene would prevent her from getting that role onstage. Which is why I love the idea of her playing the role for the movie. Movie magic!! Authentic casting is not as difficult as people make it out to be, and it's so important for meaningful representation. Plus, the role is small enough that the naysayers can't claim that (Tony-winner) Ali Stroker isn't a big enough name for the big screen. (Well... they'll claim it, but it's a BS reason.) They can put big names in other roles. You're absolutely right. People act like disabilities are a yes or no question. That if you're on a spectrum, then "you're faking it," or "not trying hard enough." I can think of a few actors who've played characters with a more-severe version of their own condition, or a similar condition. And I think that's great. How else are those talented actors gonna get cast at all, especially in an interesting, sizable role? (Until more & better roles get written, anyway) (And hey, if you get the chance to audition or self-tape, go for it!)
Here to stan disabled actors playing disabled characters and also WRITING disabled characters. With all the love I have for Wicked, I truly wish they would adapt this storyline to fit a more accessible narrative. It would be lovely if Nessa’s disability was just a part of her vs a storyline that moves Elphaba forward or drives Nessa’s story arc. It feels ludicrous to say an abled actor can play a disabled character because they are not disabled...but a disabled actor can’t play a disabled character because they are disabled. There are lots of ways to access that complicated sisterly relationship. And if a disabled person had been included in the origin of this story idea....I think it would’ve been written differently. (If I’m wrong on this i will be happily corrected...but it’s not the norm so i assume...we have so much work to do!) Just a shout into our musical loving inclusive community....lack of accessibility is our wrong to right..not the disabled community’s reality to accept. ❤️
@@jennyhill7190 They actually did not include it in the Broadway cast recording is because they think that "The Wicked Witch of The East" is spilling too much about the storyline in the musical. So, they did not include it in the final Broadway Cast Recording of wicked. I personally feel like they should have added it because it's such a good song, and they should've removed "Something Bad".
Exactly! If this movie had actually been made 10 yrs ago like if was originally supposed to we all know Elphaba would've gone to Lea Michele. I know she doesn't have the best reputation, but her talent is undeniable.
I was shocked to see Kat say Ariana Grande. She's known for her whistle notes and that airy falsetto. She isn't (in my opinion) powerful enough for Elphie
I think Elpheba needs to be either a new talent/face or at least someone who's more under the radar. Wicked is popular enough on own, it doesn't need a huge A-lister to headline the movie. In fact I think it would detract from the quality of the movie. I want an Elphena played by an actor, not an Actor who's playing Elpheba. I think most of your suggestions would probably be great, not that Ariana wouldn't, but like you said, it would be Ariana in wicked not Elpheba in Wicked.
I agree. The problem with these movie adaptations is that they keep going for star power over proper casting. Why not use one of the more recent Broadway, West End, or touring Elphabas? Broadway fans would appreciate real musical theatre actors being cast, and others will go because it's good. I'm sure most people would prefer better quality over famous casting.
As long as they would be willing to let Ariana play the character instead of playing herself she’s be fine...but unfortunately a lot of produces just want more audience so they have Ariana play cat Valentine for every role which is sad because she’s a truly talented actor
@@jackhutchinson1457 Honestly, she isn't the right voice for Elphaba. If I have to cast her, she's better suited for Glinda...but...neither is the better choice.
Danna Paola, she starred in the Wicked production in Mexico and she's been a TV actress for like forever, and her English is flawless and her Elphaba is fucking amazing AND SHE'S 25 YEARS OLD
She gonna be in an upcoming movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence , Kate blanchett and so many more we can see her acting chops and judge then
I really hope they cast a wheelchair-bound actress for the role of Nessarose. Like Kat explained, the options for Nessa are pretty much unlimited, since the main requirements are her being conventionally pretty and being able to sing - if they keep her song, which I really hope they do since I like The Wicked Witch of the East, even though a lot of people might not know the song since it's not on the OBC album. Besides that song, she also sings a bit in Dancing Through Life, but I don't think any of it is too vocally demanding, and could be done by quite some actresses with a bit of singing experience or vocal training. But when it comes to Nessarose, she is - if I'm not mistaken - the only main character in a Broadway show that is in a wheelchair, but cannot actually be played by a wheelchair-bound woman because (spoiler alert) she stands up in the beginning of the second act. But for this movie, they could use effects so it wouldn't matter if the actress can't walk. The first actress that comes to mind Ali Stroker, but that is mainly because, sadly, the amount of disabled actresses is quite limited, especially if it would also be nice for her to have some singing experience.
Many wheelchair users can walk (ambulatory wheelchair users)! So casting a disabled actor who uses a wheelchair is very much a possibility and imo they totally ought to!
If you hear her off of her pop recordings it would make sense. When she sings musical theatre songs you can’t help but be captivated which is why I think she is being casted in musicals now even though they aren’t her brand anymore. She has something that makes you stare and not look away. I have the same concern as Kat though because she might be forced to do some sort of morphing to her natural voice to heat the resemblance between her albums and her as elphaba also she did a performance of the wizard and I and it was really good and though she added her own flair at the end to keep her brand and that it was a stage performance it was great. And she is a huge theatre kid so I feel she would actually be great in the role as long as she doesn’t put her brand over the role
@@tidalvii8640 no I've seen her in hairspray live and I hated it. Lol she still used her cat valentine voice and I couldn't understand a word she sang. Also elphaba isn't a radiant beauty that captivates you, she was a social outcast because of her looks. I'm not saying she isn't talented I'm saying she doesn't fit this role.
@@Waolom1313 I saw something that said in hairspray live her voice was too powerful so they told her to put a voice on which just ruined it. Maybe she wouldn’t be an amazing elphaba BUT she should do the credits song like how in moana Lin Manuel Miranda and Jordan fisher did your welcome and in frozen 2 Brandon Urie did into the unknown. Also she has done carpool karaoke and a thing with Jason Robert brown a few years back and it was good and she was enunciating
@@tidalvii8640 her talking voice is awkward that's what it is. How do you have a voice too powerful for broadway? Master of spin will have you guys believing the most ridiculous shit before just accepting that she's not good at acting. I'm sure the track will either go to Ariana , justin or demi. They seem to be the only ones chosen for anything these days.
@@Waolom1313 meaning too powerful as like pennys voice isn’t supposed to be powerful so they tried to get her to tone it down for the character. I honestly think that if she does the credits it will be great. That will probably more suitable and it would be great.
I remember watching an interview with Dove Cameron where she talks about how Wicked got her into theatre and that she would always sing popular in front of a mirror and that working with Kristen in Descendants was a dream for her. If she plays Glinda in the movie, or ever, I’d be so happy for her 🥳
I would love to see Samantha Barks as Elphaba, she’s done Les Mis stage & screen, Pretty Woman, Last Five Years etc and she’s a powerhouse. She’s even sang Defying Gravity to Idina, so that goes well with how Dove and Kristin are connected. I think she’s perfect🤍
You’re right! I’m tired of the same famous people being hired to play these roles. There are so many unknown talented singer actors, who deserve to play these roles in Wicked. I remember Nikki Blonski was a nobody, until she got hired to play Tracy in Hairspray (2007 movie). I heard that the girl, who played Dorothy in The Wiz Live!, is a new comer!
CAN YOU PLEASE TALK ABOUT RATATOUILLE THE MUSICAL (If this gets a lot of likes she might actually do it) Edit: GUYS WE DID IT, idk if she was already planning it before but thanks for helping me😂😂🙏
They’re (probably) going to cast Ariana Grande because she is such a big name and Hollywood loves casting bankable people regardless of talent but I REALLY don’t want them to! Don’t get me wrong, I think Ariana is extremely talented in pop but her annunciation was very bad in Hairspray Live! and she’s honestly not the best actor. I feel like she’s been away from Broadway for too long and she would need to completely change her singing style to play Elphaba.
this is late but I totally agree!! this sounds bad but the thought of Ari doing movie musicals... no❤️ it’s not because of a lack of talent, it’s because she’s ARIANA GRANDE and honestly I can’t see her playing Elphaba or Glinda decently. it’s just because she has such a distinct voice & is known for.. well her runs & whistle notes. i feel the same way about her playing Meg in the live action of Hercules - it just feels weird and wrong, no matter if she came from musical theatre, seeing as she hasn’t been involved in years. sorry for the long response but people force casting Ari into things just irritates me in case you couldn’t tell lol
Agreed. I don't hate her, it's just because her face and voice are too recognizable, instead of Elphie all anyone will be able to see is Ariana Grande the pop star.
I feel like Nessa is quite a wasted character, she’s so interesting and was so underrated. Elphaba practically abandoned her and only came back for her when she needed Nessa to convince Frex of somthing and then we are supposed to hate Nessa because she got upset? In my eyes Nessa wasn’t a villain (much like Elphaba) she was a victim of circumstance. Frex died and Elphaba left so she trapped the citizens of Munchkin land so that no one else could leave her, much like Boc, I also think that she needs more songs (at least her own song that have little to no speaking) WWOTE is a great song but that only explores her as a villain, which I don’t think she really is. I’d love for Nessa to be played by a real disabled actress so that she’s given the right about of justice. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk 😂
dove and jordan where ON POINT i can see glinda and fiyero in them so easily, not just physically but i can imagine their acting being really perfect for this but... ariana??? i can’t see that at all, there’s a lot of many choices out there that can do elphie for so many reasons!!! indeed she’s a really talented singer but it’s not just that, she doesn’t act THAT well i mean... did you see her in hairspray? scream queens? she IS ariana in everything ☹️ she doesn’t fit the role even by the height, dove is taller than her! or dear, that wouldn’t work at all
The idea of seeing Jordan Fisher and Dove Cameron reunited is so amazing????? They have SUCH great chemistry thank you Kat for putting the idea in my brain
Eva Eva Eva Eva Eva Eva Eva Eva Eva She is a god, watch her diva medley where she does No Good Deed, she's incredible and also the world needs a stong mexican-asian woman as the lead
I think Its kind of Better to Get her to be like...Just singing The End Credits song Rather than play a part because she is too Famous And To...Ariana for the role and people might only watch it only because she is in it and not see her as Elphie being played by Ari And Ari playing Elphie.I want her to apear in the movie Just...probobly singing a pop version of the song in the end would fit her voice the most
Out of all of the characters, Ariana is capable of playing Galinda/Glinda, because she has the amazing soprano, whistle high notes, like Mariah Carey, she played a funny & dumb character in Kat & Dam. Other than that, she doesn’t have the look for Glinda, but her singing voice is not powerful, loud & strong enough to play Elphaba.
Actually you are not wrong! In most of act one, she is known as Galinda. But she changes her name to Glinda and she is that name for the rest of the show. So you are not wrong at all.
I mean, Ariana is AMAZING, she's one of the best singers BUT when she's acting, she's just SO Ariana, u know what I mean? I don't see her as Elphaba at all
@UCpzYS5fVCk4oLcIDBCZCeHA it's not hate, I love Ari. She was on Broadway so looong ago, she's now a singer and she has her own style, so, when she's playing a character, she doesn't change things that are from herself, so, an Elphaba needs to be unique, not just Ariana singing songs from Wicked.
She did a performance of wizard and I a while back and it was pretty good. She did add her own flair but it wasn’t her as the role it was just a stage performance. I think that if she received this role she would be great and since she is a theatre kid it would be important to her. I do hav the same concern that Kat does about her in the role.
Not at all. You have not seen all of Ariana's acting potential. She has been typecasted A LOT in the past as "dumb" characters but whenever she has done other acting like Scream Queens, SNL, Jimmy Fallon, she has shown HUGE versatility.
Ok I have OPINIONS about this. (Please don’t attack me) I don’t like Ariana Grande as Elphaba. Her voice is too breathy and pop-y (yes I know she was on broadway but that was a long time ago and her voice and singing style has changed since then) I don’t think she has the grit and rebellious nature of Elphaba. Even in Hairspray Live, her voice stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the other singers. I also don’t like Zendaya. She’s got a beautiful voice but I think it’s once again not right for Elphaba. Everything I’ve heard from her is too pretty. Elphaba is a frickin vocal POWERHOUSE and I just can’t picture Zendaya singing like that. I hate Lilli Reinhardt as Glinda. I hope I don’t have to explain why. That being said, i actually like the idea of dove Cameron as Glinda. My reasoning is kinda the same as Kat’s here but also, Kristen Chenoweth gave Dove Cameron her stamp of approval so.... I also love the idea of Jordan Fisher as Fiyero. I heard him on Rent Live and then DEH and I think he would nail Fiyero. Plus he has a big following right now because of To All The Boys 2. I think that’s all the major ones, but I might edit more in if I think of them.
Alright y'all.... I've thought a lot about this and... I don't know if I want a movie. Please dont hate me, but I genuinely think that this show needs to stay live. There's a certain magic of live theatre that would be removed if it was put in film form. If it is made into a movie (and trust me, if it is actually made this time, I'll be first in line to see it) I really hope they get theatre performers to do it and not cast just anyone cause they're popular. They need to be vocal powerhouses and experienced theatre performers to be able to carry this show the way it is meant to be carried.
That’s my opinion as well. I just cannot imagine something like defying gravity. What is she gonna do stand in the air. Just imagining it I cannot make it look good.
Ariana is a good singer, and personally, I’d like her to be in a revival of If/Then (as Anne), but she lacks the ability to play a theatrical role. Personally, I would hope that they extend the Nessarose song, and that they fill in the plot holes with the things that were in the book. I also want them to emphasize more of the animal slavery parts, again, like the book
Honestly I don’t think she lacks the ability. She used to be on broadway so she probably has the fundamentals. She may just need some help to bring it back up again.
@@MadameCorgi I mean she’s also done tv for a while (which I know is different) but there’s also science prooving how some things that you may have “forgotten” remain subconsciously in your mind and need to be brought up again.
@Ok. She never did Annie, at least not on Broadway. Her one role was Charlotte in the 2008 musical, 13. She was 15 then. It’s been over a decade, and she hasn’t done a Broadway role since. Even though she originally had a musical theatre voice, it’s now, and it has been for years, more pop then anything. She is unqualified to play the role. If her performance in Hairspray Live is anything of an indication, her acting skill is lackluster.
I agree. I have been hyped over the Wicked movie forever and I just hope they do the casting right. I’m a big fan of Ariana, But I don’t think her vocal style will fit Elphaba. And I really don’t like the idea of Dove as Glinda. I just hope they cast right. As another user above the comment says, Elphaba should be played by a person on color because she is discriminated against, If that ever happens, I really hope Emmy Raver- Lampman would step in as Elphaba again. Perfect acting and singing abilities plus she has played Elphaba before.
ariana should stick to singing, they should cast someone with adult musical theatre experience, not just give it to somebody because theyre famous and can sing. being able to sing doesnt mean you can pull of musical theatre.
yeah those girls just don’t work as the roles. ariana doesn’t have the voice type and technicality elphaba requires. and ariana’s acting has never been her strong suit. and we’ve seen her performance at hairspray live and we all know how that went. and dove as glinda just seems to me as too easy. dove often plays the mean/silly popular girl (amber, live, cher) and glinda is much more than that. i don’t want to see glinda played only as superficial and pretty when her character is supposed to be superficial on the outside but insecure on the inside. and i don’t mean to hate on any them, it’s all about finding the right actor.
Phillipa could play any of the witches in the show: Glinda, Elphaba, or Nessarose. I personally think her voice is perfect for Nessa, but they will hopefully cast a disabled actress in the role.
QOTD: Alli Mauzey should be Glinda. Everyone seems to like her a lot, and she's one of my personal favorite Glindas. (Or Kara Lindsay. Kara's my favorite Glinda, but everyone seems to like Alli a lot, so I figured I would say Alli. Not saying that Alli is bad, though, she's definitely one of the best Glindas.) And Willemijn Verkaik should be Elphaba. She's awesome. Other than that, I don't really know- (Not me casting people who have already played the role-) Edit: Someone said Renee Rapp should play Elphaba. I very much support that statement
I LOVE ALLI SHES MY FAVORITE GLINDA!!! i love her sm that its hard for me to see anyone else as glinda but i think the casting directors might think shes too old for the role now ):
Willemijn Verkaik is my favorite Elphaba EVER, I'd do anything to see her in the movie... but unfortunately I think she's a bit too old to even be considered, at this point 😭😭😭
I just think that it would be hilarious to have Ryan McCartan as Fiyero, Dove Cameron as Glinda and then Barrett Wilbert Weed as Elphaba. I mean Ryan has already played Fiyero and he was really good. Dove has the relationship with Kristen Chenoweth and I think the personality of Glinda. And Barrett has been begging to be in the movie and I think she could really do Elphaba justice. I just love the drama behind it too, because Dove and Ryan used to date (they were also in Liv and Maddie together) and Ryan was also in Heathers with Barrett. I know that this will most likely never happen, I just think that it would be really cool if it did.
Honestly I can totally see Kathryn Hahn as madame morrible. Seems like near-perfect acting, and I’m pretty sure she sings in WandaVision with a really nice voice. Plus that character seems a bit similar to Agatha from WandaVision, which she did exceptionally. Thoughts, anyone else?
Petition for Derek klena to play Fiyero in the movie. He's seriously talented, he's played the role before, he's quite charming and has a great presence... need I say more?
I would like to see Aaron Tveit as Fiyero because, one, he played him before and two, I mean, it's Aaron Tveit. Or Derek Klena. Derek Klena would be great too, I think
I would love to see Aaron reprise his role as Fiyero, but I think he’s out of the age range at this point, especially if they go closer to the characters’ ages for casting. Derek would be great, but I’d also love to see Jordan Fisher. Fiyero is a hard one to cast!!
Fiyero in the books is not white, he's actually described as having "the skin the color of sh*t" in the broadway production they whitewashed him so I would prefer for him to not be played by a white actor
@@audramcdonaldapologist3676 KSJDJSJ i thought the book said something like sand!!! not shit!!! why would you describe someone’s skin color as shit!?!??!?
I put a comment thinking about Megan Hilty as Glinda and Katherine McPhee as Elphaba, if Jeremy is Fiyero aswell, it will feel like a Smash reunion and I now love it.
Personally, I think that elpheba should be a person of color because there’s the whole aspect of being looked at differently and discriminated against because she’s green and the only people that truly know what that feels like and can truly relate to that are people of color.
This is never coming out, i swear. Phantom of the opera will be off broadway by the time this comes out. I personally think that Ryan McCartan should be fiyero because i loved him when he was on broadway in the role and I more than a little simp for him. I also think Sabrina Carpenter should be galinda because that will draw in a lot of disney fans. Speaking of sabrina, u should also cast the Mean Girls musical movie! Edit: haha, Kristin plays doves mom in descendants 🤣🤣
I wouldn’t choose Sabrina just because I don’t know if she has the technique and the range to sing Glinda. I think a lot of people forget how difficult the part of Glinda is because it’s compared with Elphaba. I think she’d be great in a lot of roles, but just not as Glinda
Sabrina would b good but I dunno, glinda is a soprano and I don't know if Sabrina can sing high enough to hit those soprano notes. Maybe she can but idk I'm thinking dove should take this one. If Ryan is in it, it'll give them a chance to patch things up if they aren't ok at this point
@@jamies9040 she’s actually not bad. I am far from a fan of Riverdale, but Lili can sing. Go check out her singing On My Own (basic, I know) but it’s really good 🙂

I agree that Dove Cameron would be a great pick for Glinda. I have seen her in roles with Kristen Chenoweth for Descendants and Hairspray and both of them work well together. I feel there is a mentorship dynamic played there and she would be a natural successor to Chenoweth's iconic role.
I can see Dove on Glinda, but I would 100% have Annaleigh Ashford or Kate Rockwell on that role! In an interview, Kate said that she would love to play Glinda. And Annaleigh is pretty self explanatory!
I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO TALK ABOUT THIS HERE IS MY LIST Elphaba: Sam Barks. Or nothing. @@tidalvii8640 same I'm good with Dove but Ariana grande would be ok but its the annunciation. Ben Platt would be a perfect Boq and Jordan Fisher would be fiyero and Liz Gilles would be a great Elphaba
So I know this probably isn't the most original choice, but I've seen Anna Kendrick floated as a possible Elphaba. She's done "For Good" with Kristin Chenoweth and was really able to hold her own. I think she and Dove Cameron could make a really interesting duo. And from a practical standpoint they'd work because 1) they have a lot of brand recognition and their popularity (ha!) could be a big draw for those who don't belong to musical cults.... And 2) they both have pretty great musical pedigrees that we jaded theatre cult members could be satisfied with their casting. Not the most adventurous choices I know. But I really think it works if you look at it from a few different angles!
I didn't know this until recently but Anna Kendrick had quite a prolific Broadway career as a child and she was nominated for a Tony at 10 or something.
@@NairAthul I just recently learned that too! I think it explains a lot of her strong musical inclinations and I think it's a major check in the pro column.
@@am-lo1pz this. She's not actually a very good singer. So nasal! Her voice is way too small and nasal to pull off Elphaba. You'd have to pair her with the tiniest, lightest voiced Glinda ever.
Super agree! A lot of people think you can’t cast a disabled person as Nessa because she has to stand up but Hello! Ambulatory Wheelchair users exist (I am one of them 💁♀️)
@@graceconnallon4719 Yes exactly! There is no excuse to not hire disabled actors to play disabled parts (coming from an ambulatory wheelchair user who loves musical theatre and has gotten really tired of able-bodied people making the same excuse).
I swear, the release of the Hamilton movie changed peoples minds about whether movie musicals are profitable. Everyone’s trying to get a slice of the movie musical cash, and I love it lol.
@@TurtleJulia I think that derek would be AMAZING! But I'm also trying to think of actors who haven't done it yet. But I still would love to see Derek play fiyero again!☺
I truly hope they do one and do one well!!! When I was in college, us theatre kids sat and we submitted our dream cast. Here’s mine: Elphaba - Samantha Barks Glinda - Isla Fisher (or Ali Mauzy who is legendary) Fiyero - Jonathan Groff Boq - Ben Platt Nessarose - Hailee Steinfeld (or Naomi Scott) Madam Morrible - Audra McDonald or Meryl Streep The Wizard - Stanley Tucci Dr. Dillamund - Martin Short
I feel like only people who have been in the musical should be in the movie but maybe I’m biased because it’s my favorite musical and don’t want to be disappointed. I feel like Mary Kate Morrissey and Ginna Claire Mason should be Elphaba and Glinda though without a doubt. They not only were amazing in those roles when I seen them on tour but they have such great chemistry too and it truly shows in their performance and to me that’s important as Wicked is about Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship. Fiyero though I say Aaron Tveit or Ryan McCartan. If a movie star is going to be The Wizard I think Hugh Jackman would be a great choice. Meryl Streep would be a great choice for Madame Morrible.
I think this is why Rent is potentially the most successful modern movie adaptation...because they said to hell with star power, and used the original cast. All movie musicals would be vastly improved if they went with better singers, like...I don't know...people who've actually done musical theatre professionally, instead of just picking famous people who can sort of carry a tune, but needs a crap ton of autotune to make it work.
Yes exactly. Though I will say Les Miserables and Into The Woods movie adaptations were really good ones. So with that said I feel like as long as they cast people who can sing really well without autotune it will be good. But yeah I hope they stick to people from the musical for Wicked.
@@jennyhill7190 I couldn't disagree more. The vocals in Les Mis were painful...absolutely painful. I have refused to watch it because the clips I have seen/heard were so bad. Into the Woods was...fine. They simplified and took out to much music. Anna Kendrick shouldn't have been anywhere near it; she does not have the vocal chops for Cinderella. Her voice alone was enough to ruin it for me. Pretty much everyone else was decent to good, no one was great. I love my some Meryl Streep, but if they were going to cast someone that age, they should have gone with the OG, Bernadette Peters.
If y’all can’t tell from my profile pic, I’ve never clicked so fast I want dove Cameron as Glinda and Ciara Renee, Liz Gillies, or Lady Gaga (if they’re wanting to go with someone popular) as Elphaba and Jordan Fisher or Ryan McCartan as Fiyero
@@spicysalami9160 it says that Elphaba is a mezzo soprano! I think her No Good Deed would be bone chilling. It’s just Defying Gravity that would worry me a little bit because I’ve never heard her sing that high
Ryan McCratan is a yes but he and dove dated. The ending if I’m not mistaken was messy. So if she gets cast then idk if he would. But I love him for the role. I’d honestly cast a different Glinda to get him.
In my opinion if Ariana Grande were to be in this movie she would be Glinda because I see her doing those high notes and she has so much room in the songs to do her famous riffs and stuff but I also see Renee Rapp as both Glinda and Elphaba. But I definitely think Renee Rapp zHAs to be in the movie some how also she would be a great Nessa.
@@KeepCalmContemplateYourChoices I think part of the cuteness of the character is him seeming like an eccentric human professor. In my opinion CGI would prevent that. It also may be a bit jarring to have him be the only CGI character. Take the jungle book for a case with great CGI. As Mowgli is the only non CGI character, he stands out, which is good as he is the main character. Dr Dillamond however, is not a main character so him standing out may be a bit strange. I am very bias against CGI though, I think it’s such an impressive art form but I don’t believe it would be optimal in this context.
@@courtneykates755 Yes, but Dr. Dillamond is also an animal, and he's the only animal in the show that matters, he's the one who inspires Elphaba to start her cause. So having him be CGI would sort of isolate him from the other characters, proving how the wizard has turned Oz against animals.
Ariana Grande is playing Glinda now. They’ve started filming. I think she will be good, they have cast a perfect actress for Elphaba, Cynthia Erico, she’s simply wonderful at singing and will be perfect for Elphaba. Plus, Ariana is also friends with Kristin Chenoweth like Dove Cameron, so she will have the original Glinda as her mentor.
They need to cast people that can play the main cast as College aged and then convincingly adults at the end. If you cast too young the illusion that this is a Wizard of Oz prequel fizzles.
Galinda: soo, I've been thinking, Elphaba and Fiyero: about? Galinda: changing my name. Elphaba: fiyero leave I need to talk with my pal here. *fiyero leaves* what are you gonna change your name too? Wanted to come back to this to say: I think we need a script re-write that allows an actress who uses a wheelchair *offstage* to play Nessa
What if Christian Borle played the wizard and Jeremy jordon played Fiyero
I've been thinking for a while that Ali Stroker makes sense for the role. I know there are other actresses who use wheelchairs with the chops, but I think her "first actress to use her wheelchair on Broadway" and "first actress who uses a wheelchair to win a Tony" credentials really put her up there. That's if they keep Nessarose as a singing part, of course.
(Plus, slightly less relevant the longer this process goes on, but there absolutely is still the "Wait, wasn't she in Glee that one time?" factor for some in the general audience.)
It's a big budget movie, they should just use a double and some computer magic for the walking scene

and for all the people who are going to be like (spoiler alert) "but she has to walk" Many wheelchair user (including myself) can walk and many other disabilities don't impair one's ability to walk but would still make for more authentic casting.
(Until more & better roles get written, anyway)
(And hey, if you get the chance to audition or self-tape, go for it!)
@@katyscott87 I thought that Ali Stroker was my first thought to play Nessarose
YES PLEASE! More Disabled rep!
(If I’m wrong on this i will be happily corrected...but it’s not the norm so i assume...we have so much work to do!)
Just a shout into our musical loving inclusive community....lack of accessibility is our wrong to right..not the disabled community’s reality to accept. ❤️

In fact I think it would detract from the quality of the movie. I want an Elphena played by an actor, not an Actor who's playing Elpheba.

Broadway actors are not film actors, two different mediums.
The first actress that comes to mind Ali Stroker, but that is mainly because, sadly, the amount of disabled actresses is quite limited, especially if it would also be nice for her to have some singing experience.
totally agree, they are already going to use a lot of effects in the movie, they can and should cast an actually disabled actress
I don't know how that would feel for the actress... seeing herself standing with whatever effects but in real life being unable to do so.
Many wheelchair users can walk (ambulatory wheelchair users)! So casting a disabled actor who uses a wheelchair is very much a possibility and imo they totally ought to!
I think Ali Stroker would be a great choice.
came to the comments to say that.
There's literally nothing about Ariana that makes her suitable for elphaba. She just wants the part so her fans try and force it to work.
@@Waolom1313 I saw something that said in hairspray live her voice was too powerful so they told her to put a voice on which just ruined it. I don’t like Ariana Grande as Elphaba.

@@tobyfinney768 she had one role, when she was 13. She hasn't had much of a theatre carer so saying it proves she could handle the role is a reach imo
Cry!!!
i’m not sure why, but i would really like elphaba to be played by someone who has already played her before/sung her part publicly
That's absolutely the right call. It's a difficult part, and needs proper Broadway chops, not just star power.
As amazing as a vocalist Ariana is... I just can’t trust her or her management team to bring Elphaba and her character alive or to justice.
Cry!!!!
Six minutes ago! I believe Jeremy Jordan would make a OUTSTANDING Fiyero-and I can totally see Kat being Glinda
Something about Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Dove Cameron as Glinda doesn’t sit right with me. I’d need to be convinced.
ariana should stick to singing, they should cast someone with adult musical theatre experience, not just give it to somebody because theyre famous and can sing. being able to sing doesnt mean you can pull of musical theatre.
yeah those girls just don’t work as the roles. ariana doesn’t have the voice type and technicality elphaba requires. and ariana’s acting has never been her strong suit. and we’ve seen her performance at hairspray live and we all know how that went. and dove as glinda just seems to me as too easy. dove often plays the mean/silly popular girl (amber, live, cher) and glinda is much more than that. i don’t want to see glinda played only as superficial and pretty when her character is supposed to be superficial on the outside but insecure on the inside. and i don’t mean to hate on any them, it’s all about finding the right actor.
Dove can totally pull of Glinda! She has the skills if you watch her in all her different characters.
Honestly I feel like if they keep Nessa’s song I feel like Ana Kendrick would be pretty good for the role
Yeah!! I love her.
Aww, I adore her! That’d be so cute!!
She would actually fit the role so well!
Yes, I love her, and her voice is so underrated! She has so much control, like howwww
ANNA KENDRICK AS NESSA WOULD BE ALL I’VE EVER WANTED
Someone’s gotta say it! Bette Middler MUST play Madame Morible!!
Jeremy Jordan as Fiyero 😭🙏🏻
Yaaasssss!!!!
I want Phillipa Soo as Elphaba so badly
Also either Dove Cameron or Renée Rap as Galinda
I think pippa soo’s a Glinda tho
I'm team dove.
Phillipa could play any of the witches in the show: Glinda, Elphaba, or Nessarose. I personally think her voice is perfect for Nessa, but they will hopefully cast a disabled actress in the role.
@@tinymxnticore if they need someone as Nessa, maybe Ali Stroker from Oklahoma
@@Lisa-pg9ej she would also be a good Glinda, but outside of Hamilton she has a very grand voice
I feel that Elphie should be a new comer, but an experienced theatre person
It should be Emmy Raver Lampman
QOTD: Alli Mauzey should be Glinda. Everyone seems to like her a lot, and she's one of my personal favorite Glindas. (Or Kara Lindsay. Kara's my favorite Glinda, but everyone seems to like Alli a lot, so I figured I would say Alli. Not saying that Alli is bad, though, she's definitely one of the best Glindas.) And Willemijn Verkaik should be Elphaba. She's awesome. Other than that, I don't really know- (Not me casting people who have already played the role-)
Edit: Someone said Renee Rapp should play Elphaba.
Kara Lindsay is my fav too!!
I have seen him as Link in a regional production of Hairspray
Derek or Antonio for sure I would love... I mean also Aaron but he may be slightly too old to do the role on screen now :(
I would like to see Aaron Tveit as Fiyero because, one, he played him before and two, I mean, it's Aaron Tveit.
JEREMY JORDAN as Fiyero.
Yeah I just want to see him in everything.
YES! YES! YES!
YES!!! I literally commented on this god earlier that if he isn’t Fiyero I might start a riot
I put a comment thinking about Megan Hilty as Glinda and Katherine McPhee as Elphaba, if Jeremy is Fiyero aswell, it will feel like a Smash reunion and I now love it.
It’s hard to argue with his assessment
@@scroogemcduck7820 Game Of Thrones reference? We don’t know her-
I definitely just remembered that the Once Upon A Mattress movie is on Disney+ and in my to-watch list because of this video.
Personally, I think that elpheba should be a person of color because there’s the whole aspect of being looked at differently and discriminated against because she’s green and the only people that truly know what that feels like and can truly relate to that are people of color.
@@lent_ils You can say one race fits a vocal range more. Lol

I agree !
bold of you to assume we’re getting this movie before the sun blows up billions of years from now
This is never coming out, i swear.
Before people get mad at me, il sabrina is a little young, but by the time this movie gets cast, she may as well be in her 30s 🤣
I wouldn’t choose Sabrina just because I don’t know if she has the technique and the range to sing Glinda. I think a lot of people forget how difficult the part of Glinda is because it’s compared with Elphaba. I think she’d be great in a lot of roles, but just not as Glinda
Sabrina is a really cool idea but Ryan’s an abuser so that’s a no.
@@annabelcrescibene4257 oh, I didn't know that
Sabrina would b good but I dunno, glinda is a soprano and I don't know if Sabrina can sing high enough to hit those soprano notes. Maybe she can but idk
I'm thinking dove should take this one. If Ryan is in it, it'll give them a chance to patch things up if they aren't ok at this point
I can see Lili Reinhart as Nessarose! I’ve heard that she’s in the running for Glinda but let’s all manifest that that doesn’t happen.
Oh please god no *Shakes my 5 braincells around like a maraca* she will NOT be Glinda
No one associated with riverdale needs to touch any movie musical with a ten foot pole. Please Jesus no ESPECIALLY not for Glinda
She doesn’t even have the range for it. GOD PLEASE DON’T DO THIS TO US.
@@jamies9040 she’s actually not bad. I am far from a fan of Riverdale, but Lili can sing. Go check out her singing On My Own (basic, I know) but it’s really good 🙂
this is actually a very good idea, the only reason some ppl dont like lili is because of riverdale's SHITTY writing but she's actually a good singer and actress and i can totally see her playing the character arc we need for nessa
Ahhhhhhhhh I'm so happy you mentioned Eva. Meeting her 2 summers ago was amazing and she's so genuine!!

I would LOVE to see Kara Lindsay as Glinda in the Wicked movie
Anna doesn't have the voice. She's got a good contemporary voice but she doesn't have the power for Elphaba.
@@NairAthul I just recently learned that too! I think it explains a lot of her strong musical inclinations and I think it's a major check in the pro column.
Anna Kendrick would be too old opposite Dove Cameron

Dr.

If y’all can’t tell from my profile pic, I’ve never clicked so fast
I want dove Cameron as Glinda and Ciara Renee, Liz Gillies, or Lady Gaga (if they’re wanting to go with someone popular) as Elphaba and Jordan Fisher or Ryan McCartan as Fiyero
CIARA RENEE UGH thats so good thank you!
elphaba is pretty high for a mezzo like lady gaga
@@spicysalami9160 it says that Elphaba is a mezzo soprano! I think Lady Gaga would act the role beautifully, because she really impressed me with A Star is Born, and I normally hate Hollywood casting pop stars in heavy acting roles but she’s the ✨exception✨. I think her No Good Deed would be bone chilling. It’s just Defying Gravity that would worry me a little bit because I’ve never heard her sing that high
yess
Ryan McCratan is a yes but he and dove dated. The ending if I’m not mistaken was messy. So if she gets cast then idk if he would. But I love him for the role. I’d honestly cast a different Glinda to get him.
In my opinion if Ariana Grande were to be in this movie she would be Glinda because I see her doing those high notes and she has so much room in the songs to do her famous riffs and stuff but I also see Renee Rapp as both Glinda and Elphaba. But I definitely think Renee Rapp zHAs to be in the movie some how also she would be a great Nessa.
As someone who has played Dr Dillamond, I forget he exists too
How would a CGI Dr. Dillamond look?
Terrifying, or somewhat cute?
I have too... I-I, yea 😂
LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
@@courtneykates755 Yes, but Dr. Dillamond is also an animal, and he's the only animal in the show that matters, he's the one who inspires Elphaba to start her cause. So having him be CGI would sort of isolate him from the other characters, proving how the wizard has turned Oz against animals.
Ariana Grande is playing Glinda now. They’ve started filming. I think she will be good, they have cast a perfect actress for Elphaba, Cynthia Erico, she’s simply wonderful at singing and will be perfect for Elphaba.
