I like this version a lot, but the original is great too. If you like originals you really ought to listen to the song My Father's Eyes from this concert. It's a song he years later went on to totally butcher on a studio album. Like Tears in heaven it's about the death of his son, but arguably better.
Clapton wrote Layla about his forbidden love for the wife of his close friend George Harrison (she eventually became Clapton's wife). The song was inspired by Clapton's reading of the classic Persian unrequited love story, the epic poem Layla and Manjun, the entire album; 'Derek and he Domonioes' (Layla and other love songs) is filled with songs about the emotional pain of his love for this woman. Songs like I Looked Away, Bell Bottom Blues, Keep On Growing. Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out, I Am Yours, Key To The Highway, Tell the Truth, Torne Tree In The Garden, Have You Ever Loved A Woman -- you can hear the passion in his voice, his guitar playing and the desperation of wanting this woman more than life itself. Great album. Try some of these songs. Bell Bottom Blues and Have You Ever Love A Woman, along with the Rock/Blues version of Layla, are my favorites.
Well if you liked this you’re going to love “Wonderful Tonight” Official Live version. I lost my wife about 13 years ago and her and I used to sing this to our twin girls to help put them to sleep at night along with some other choice songs. I cannot listen to it without the most beautiful and incredible thoughts of my wife as she was truly a one of a kind and my very special soulmate. I hope that you enjoy it tremendously and look forward to your reaction to it. Prayers and Blessings to you and yours.
Eric Clapton is a great English rock & blues guitarist, singer & songwriter. He is considered one of the best guitarists in the world & has had a great career in music. He was with many great groups before going solo. The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominos. Eric Clapton has done 2 versions of "Layla" over the years. One faster rock version & this slowed down version. Both are great!
The other comments are telling you all about this artist and the many other versions of this song, but nothing changes the fact that your genuine, spontaneous reaction is nevertheless valuable and enjoyable to watch. I would, however recommend to any video author to do a Wiki check of both the artist and the song they plan to react to before they do one of these videos, because that way you won't have to reinvent the wheel, so to speak.
The "girl" was Patty Boyd, who was married to his friend George Harrison of the Beatles at the time. And, yes, you should listen to his original version when he was with Derek and the Dominoes.
The story behind this song is rock legend. He wrote it about Pattie Boyd George Harrison, of the Beatles, wife. They eventually married and divorced. Most of the album "Layla and other assorted love songs" is based on him lusting after her.
🎼🎼🌹🎼🎼 .. this is a magical version .. Maddy. I am sure your other followers will explain that this was a huge hit as a Rock song in the 70s. This album is titled "unplugged" .. and this is truly unplugged , this is a very stripped down cover. Both .. are beyond excellent !! I hope you take the time to listen to his original version. Keep rockin' Maddy 🎸🎸🎸🎸 . Any Etic Clapton will be very good for your soul !
I remember hearing this for the first time and immediately went and cranked Derek and the Dominos version all the way up. The original 1971, and subsequent electric versions are the way this song should be remembered.
The original is 🔥🔥🔥and the outro ❤❤❤. Clapton known as “Slowhand” , one of the best to ever pick up a guitar 🎸😁. You’re on about Randy Newman with the Toy Story song.
You must watch “you look wonderful tonight “ from the “24 hours “ video concert. You will love it. It was my wife’s and my song . We danced to it on our wedding day. Very popular version
You need to hear the original by Derick and the Dominoes. Still Eric with his band from late 60s early 70s. Totally different feel! More upbeat with electric guitar!
You've Got A Friend In Me is Randy Newman...I can see how you notice the similarity, though...Newman along with John Prine, Tom Waits and Steve Goodman are our best American lyricists (also Bob Dylan, of course)...there is a whole second part of the song that is not here with one of the best simple piano riffs ever
The original recording was timeless, with Clapton and Duane Allman throwing out mind blowing licks. Too bad Derek and the Dominoes turned into a train wreck and never got to complete their second album. The song referred to George Harrisons wife, Patty Boyd who Clapton eventually hooked up with. Definitely worth reading about. The Album was called Layla and other assorted love songs.
This version of the song for me is like reminiscing of a love that was lost long ago after the intense emotional pain of a breakup is gone. The original version is the intense, battling it head on. Love both versions and your reactions.
You must listen to the original on the great Derek and the Dominoes album...one of the most iconic songs and performances ever...he has played this thousands of times...he can make it sound casual but it isn't...this is Clapton's most famous song
Here are some suggestions for more Clapton: - Old Love at Mountain View 1992 and accoustic version - I shot the sherriff 2004 - Have you ever loved a woman, groaning the blues and five long years from the Nothing but the Blues - Edge of darkness - Little wing with Steve Winwood
He was called 👉 GOD 👈 In the 60s somebody painted on a wall Clapton is god and it stuck. He was also called 👉 Slow Hand👈 Because of his style is considered slowhand style. Love you Maddie thanks you for ginuwine authentic reactions ❤
I don't think I have heard this song as a ballad and acustic! Suggestion of a prog rock group of the 70s nobody else has reacted to. A friend found the vinyl album in the mid 70s. We wondered why we never heard of it. And we still wonder. The Churchills aka Jericho aka Jericho Jones with the song "Ethiopia" (4:34) or even better "Kill me with your love" (11:16). If you want some music quit different from everything you have heard so far: "the Yellow Snow Suit" (four connected songs with a weird story about 11 min).
I do like this but it's not a patch on the original version. Very different too. Anyway, he had a muse for this song. Pattie Boyd his girlfriend and then wife. She was George Harrison's girlfriend before that. She inspired a few more songs from both of them too, including Wonderful Tonight. Must have been quite a woman!
Lady, sounds like he's playing guitar? Eric Clapton is one of the greatest guitar players of all time, even Jimi Hendrix admired him greatly and wanted to play on stage with him just one time and when he did he was honored. In fact Jimi Hendrix was another one of the greatest guitar players ever. Lady you got Google, check these people out at least.
You should do My Father's Eyes from this concert. A little known gem of a song. The studio recording that came years later is awful. My own theory is that he wanted it to be perfect and ended up overworking it.
rofl..You are coming oh so late to the party..but welcome. Please check out the original version of this song.. From the 1970's The original is from his time in the Band - Derek and the Domino's. I also hope you realise that Clapton is rated as in the top 4 or 5 guitarists of all time. In short he is legendary. Check out the 2005 Royal Albert Hall performances (on UA-cam) of another legendary band he was in Cream!
Yes, it did drive him crazy, the problem was that Layla (Patti Boyd) was his friend's George Harrison (Beatles) wife. You saw them both together on the reaction you did to "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" as Eric Clapton did the guitar work on the original song. Eventually Harrison and Boyd were divorced, and Clapton and Boyd ultimately married.
The original album version is SO much better. Also, you don’t seem to have covered any by the first true supergroup, Cream, whose guitarist was Eric Clapton.
Never liked this version. The song as originally written is a song about tortured love or a woman that is in love/married to someone else. This is a washed out version. As others have said, the original version is one of the great classics of the era. It soars with passion. The slide work of Duane Allman is amazing.
Please do the original version. One of the greatest songs of all time, by one of the greatest guitarists ever!
I like this version a lot, but the original is great too.
If you like originals you really ought to listen to the song My Father's Eyes from this concert. It's a song he years later went on to totally butcher on a studio album. Like Tears in heaven it's about the death of his son, but arguably better.
The piano outro is stellar ❤❤❤
Layla without Skydog ain't Layla.
One of the greatest guitarists of all time (formerly with the super group Cream). The original electric version of this is fire.
Clapton wrote Layla about his forbidden love for the wife of his close friend George Harrison (she eventually became Clapton's wife). The song was inspired by Clapton's reading of the classic Persian unrequited love story, the epic poem Layla and Manjun, the entire album;

MR. Clapton is the only 3-time inductee into the rock and roll hall of fame!!!
"You've Got a Friend in Me" is a song by Randy Newman.
Eric Clapton is a great English rock & blues guitarist, singer & songwriter. He is considered one of the best guitarists in the world & has had a great career in music. Randy Newman is the singer/songwriter of You've Got A Friend In Me
Oh no! The acoustic old man version
Hi Maddy. From Wales here. Clapton is the only performer in history to be inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame 3 times. A true heavyweight.
Maddy, the other lead guitar on the original "Layla" was Duane Allman of the Allman Brother Band.
The story behind this song is rock legend. He wrote it about Pattie Boyd George Harrison, of the Beatles, wife. They eventually married and divorced. Most of the album "Layla and other assorted love songs" is based on him lusting after her.

Toy Story, Randy Newman sung that for the movie.
The second guitar in this one is Andy Fairweather Low. Extremely talented guitarist who has played with a lot of the greats.
You must watch “you look wonderful tonight “ from the “24 hours “ video concert. You will love it. It was my wife’s and my song . We danced to it on our wedding day. Very popular version
Hello Miss Maddy! I hope everything is wonderful with you. Clapton is one of my favorite guitar players, and heroes.
You need to hear the original by Derick and the Dominoes. Still Eric with his band from late 60s early 70s. Totally different feel! More upbeat with electric guitar!
I wish people recommending songs would check the description
Back when musicians and singers had real talent. I'm 62.
Here Madds I love Eric Claptons "Wonderful Tonight",he did a live version of the song I'm not sure when 🤔,it wasn't long ago, great song though 🥰
Oh Darlin... you still have sooooo much to learn!!!! A step closer with this... but!!!
listen Cream (the original band for clapton), Sunshine of you love and White room, always on my playlist.
The man that made me play guitar 16 years ago
Do the original version of Layla
Derick and the Domino's
Eric Clapton was a member of that group
That's Randy Newman that sings "You've Got a Friend in Me" on Toy Story.
He also did the theme song for TV show Monk.
You really need the origina l Derek and The Dominoes version for a listen
You've Got A Friend In Me is Randy Newman...I can see how you notice the similarity, though...Newman along with John Prine, Tom Waits and Steve Goodman are our best American lyricists (also Bob Dylan, of course)...there is a whole second part of the song that is not here with one of the best simple piano riffs ever

Nice reaction Maddy.

He's nickname is "Slow Hands Clapton" I can't recall who exactly called him that! I should've Googled it!
I've never heard this version before. It is delightful, but very different from the studio version that I remember from my childhood.
Clapton is " God "...❤❤❤❤❤❤
Here are some suggestions for more Clapton:
- Old Love at Mountain View 1992 and accoustic version
- I shot the sherriff 2004
- Have you ever loved a woman, groaning the blues and five long years from the Nothing but the Blues

Kenny Wayne Shepard. BLUE ON BLACK, COME ON BOSS. LOL
Try the electric version, no your thinking of of Randy Newman in toy story
He was called
👉 GOD 👈
In the 60s somebody painted on a wall Clapton is god and it stuck. He was also called
👉 Slow Hand👈
Because of his style is considered slowhand style. Love you Maddie thanks you for ginuwine authentic reactions ❤
Maddy is a lovely classic

Maddy, I highly recommend checking out the original version.
You are charming. Your smile and hair are hypnotizing. Peace in your heart
I don't think I have heard this song as a ballad and acustic!

The bonafied version of this song. The original is pure rock and fast.
Do the original by Eric's band Derek and the Dominos. Or any song off that album. Key to the highway. Ty
Lady, sounds like he's playing guitar? Nemophila and Rolling Quartz both released new videos tonight.
play gary moore still got the blues the best blues guitarist #1
You should do My Father's Eyes from this concert. A little known gem of a song. The studio recording that came years later is awful. My own theory is that he wanted it to be perfect and ended up overworking it.

You should react to his song "Cocaine" next. Its lovely 🫠

😬😬😬
You should check out his Change the World
Cardinal sin, stopping during the guitar solo. You are forgiven this once...
🇨🇦 Now for a change, react to "Badge" by Cream, with Eric Clapton !
I shot the Sheriff next please, Eric is a GOAT, right. Is that todays terminology ?
I know this was a request but I much prefer the original.check it out this version is good if u need a nap😂
fyi...."Layla" was George Harrison's wife. George being one of the Beatles.
Pattie Boyd has inspired so many classic songs..
The original album version is SO much better. Also, you don’t seem to have covered any by the first true supergroup, Cream, whose guitarist was Eric Clapton.
In the 1960s all over Londen, You would see graffiti saying Clapton is God.
Hey Maddy can you react to Marcin guitar Layla and his other videos ?!
conga drums. not bongos
yes the original is so much better and shows of his ability with the guitar
Good morning
good album the unplagged of Clapton , other good song was Tears in Heaven
