This was the turning point in videogames. When a videogame was more than just a character running around a level collecting pick-ups, power ups, coins etc etc and they could be cinematic, movie-like experiences with fleshed out characters you cared about. A true turning point in gaming.
This was the first game I saw whose voice acting didn't make me laugh. So many games before had voice acting but it was comical, even if they tried to be serious. From the start it's like a movie, with the voice over. Masterfully-done.
@@ukeyaoitrash2618 To me the games that broke new ground since video-games were invented were : WonderBoy 3 The Dragon's Trap (the first metroidvania with RPG elements through gear drops, money, gear shops, etc - it blew my mind in 1989 or so), FF6 (it's the first mindblowing JRPG with a gripping movie-like experience and stellar gameplay I played but I guess it could be replaced by another JRPG with compelling stories & characters like FF4 though), Resident Evil, and MGS. Maybe Doom, Tomb Raider / Shadow of the Colossus or Warcraft 2 / Command & Conquer / Diablo too because they came up with new genres of games that were awesome. Since then though, nothing. It feels like there won't be another game that invents a new genre / pushes the media, seeing how stale the industry has been these past 20 years. All these AAA titles nowadays are heavily-scripted action-adventure-light-rpg mixes of FF, Tomb Raider, RE and MGS. Can video games still evolve? It sure doesn't feel like it, all we see is better graphics and more scripted movie cutscenes and dialogue. I'd even argue that the need for highly detailed graphics nowadays works against the medium : MGS looked realistic and immersive enough with those low poly graphics, so devs should really focus their attention elsewhere. Where though, I have no idea, I'm sure as hell not the genius the industry currently needs to come up with a new mindblowing concept. There's probably something that can be done though.....
I agree, the game that took video games into a new era. High quality voice acting, deep philosophical plot. When the nintendo 64 had Zelda and Mario this game was respected as an adult feature. It is still a rare thing to experience even to this day were most games are very shallow plot/character wise.
This is when I realized games were art. They could be different. Sat in my room alone for weeks playing through feeling the story appreciating the detail. Was a huge mgs fan since. I only bought the game because it had two discs lol had no idea what it was about. Was very suitable for me
And not to forgot how creative this game was using all sorts of ways to make it interactive. How psycho mantis read your memory card, using second player ports, back of CD for Meryl’s codec, and not forgetting her underwear, etc
Yeah.. wish they didn't ruin it with changing big bosses voice in the 5th edition though. I didn't play the game for that one reason. I know.. I'm petty like that
Twin Snakes is great, though they did admit they really tried to make it more "Matrix" like. Thats why the new cutscenes are way over the top. Great game though!
Ah the nostalgia. When I played this as a kid, there was no google for hints an tips, you would get the PlayStation magazine and talk about it at school.
Да...Помню прошел ее лет 10 назад и влюбился в эту вселенную...в эту атмосферу...это было как Кино ..но самое лучшее...стал позновать дальше эту вселенную...и убедился ...Кодзима Гений...
For those that haven’t completed this game. To beat psycho mantis, you needed to put your controller in the second port so he couldn’t read your mind. So cool! He would also read the contents of your memory card.
@@theearthrexden i dont recall what, but something tipped me off, maybe a call to someone? He also reads your memory card lol, if you have saved konami games. The stuff they though of for this game was out there but so thoughtful. Ahead of its time by a lot.
Konami recognized from the memory card if you had saved files from other games they released on PS1. Castlevania: SOTN was one those games that Psycho Mantis would read from the memory card. It was awesome at that time, truly a wow moment.
I am so glad i got to experience this from the get go... all you guys who had the same know the feeling... the music...the sounds ...the creation of it all...i mean way. .. way ahead of its time... unbelievable. 👏🏼🙌🏼
This was my favourite game for years, could play it over and over without getting bored. Was cool finding the secrets too like being invisible and being fast enough to catch Meryl half naked in the bathroom. 🤣🤣
Just watching/listening to this playthrough and damn it the story, characters & everything was just the epitome of greatness. Damn this game was soo damn good, the dialogue is quite impressive too.
That PS intro has so much nostalgia attached to it... Also, one of the best MGS ever created. For the greatest introductory console ever created. The birth place of the "gamer girl". Awesome video, brought back so many memories not just tied to this game.
This & Red Dead Redemption 2 are my two favourite games of all time for being so engrossingly cinematic. Felt more like I was playing a film rather than a game.
It's doesn't take much to see why this is hailed as a classic. Totally original in every respect. But damn, how did we manage to play this with the limited top down view lol
Was it in Japanese or English in the Japanese demo you can only go as far as the air vent in the English demo you can only go as far as the death of the darpa chief/decoy octopus 🐙
I just re-found my original Metal Gear Solid PS1 2 disc game in a box in my basement. So I busted out my old PS3 that plays PS1 games, just to replay this. Yes, it's that good.

Chrono trigger, ff 6, tales of phantasia, and god knows how many more all predated this (by years often) though... ;)

along with Goldeneye (same year I think)
1998 was wild tho, Metal Gear, Half life, Ocarina of time, Golden eye...
How can you guys forget Resident Evil 2? But I stand my point.
This is one of my favorite PS1 games. Replayed it several times. Best in series, classic!
This is not just a game, its an experience ,which is not to be missed!
I remember my older brother playing this game in the 90s. He later told me that without a doubt this is the best game on PS1
Not just on PS1. One of the best games ever on any platform
We need a remaster of this game!
There is, on the game cube. However I they changed Snakes behaviour in the cutscenes to the negative.
Twin Snakes is great, though they did admit they really tried to make it more "Matrix" like. Thats why the new cutscenes are way over the top. Great game though!
100% YES
Totally!
The remaster on GameCube wasn't Konami, it was siliconknights. Kojima just gave them the rights to develop it

Final Fantasy 7 - Resident Evil 2 - Metal Gear Solid - Tekken 3 | The Mount Rushmore of Gaming History!
For me it would have to be metal gear solid, resident evil, tomb raider, and silent hill .
The initial music @system start up, along with the MGS opening is very soothing 😉

All these years and still enjoying the watching. Super good videogame MGS is.
I use to struggle at the beginning on these level as a kid. I didn't know to kill my enemy, only knock them out temporarily. Lol
