    I have a project coming up that uses WS2812B RGB LEDs. So before we get into that, I thought we should look at the wiring considerations for these devices. Adafruit has an excellent guide on their site that goes over it as well.

    Came here looking for an example of how to solder the WS2812B when they're attached to PCB. Thanks for the basic intro! I appreciate it.

    The video was a little longer than I was looking for, but once I clicked on it I realized that the content was quite good and worth every minute of my time. Very informative and clear. Please keep up the good work!

    I've watched loads of videos about this and they all skip over the bit about how and why the wires need to be done this way. I'd assumed I could just clip the strip to the Arduino. This is the only useful video on the subject I have seen 👍👌👍

    No I did not know all that. I have only used the RGBs with the common cathode 3 anodes. Did not even know these existed. Went out and ordered 10. Looks really fun to play with.

    Thanks for the comment at 7:03 because i feel thats a bit of a problem in the maker/hacker/fablab community. Don't scare off newbies, everyone has to start somewhere, be kind and helpful, not braggy and arrogant. Great Video, thanks a lot!

    Greetings, the ring looks like it has a resistor between every led and not just the first data line on the first pixel, is there a reason for this?

    I hope I get reply being video is 4 years old. On ws2812 there is 3 wires and two additional wires ground power. Can I hook these up to brake light wire and keep the main 3 for arduino nano to send data to leds to flash?

    Thanks for sharing. I want to use it for 3 relays. For example, if 1st relay is on, first LED must glow. How do I program? Please note that I have never used WS2812 before. Also kindly suggest Capacitor and resistor. I want to connect it with Nodemcu.

    Thank you for the video! Looking at the straight 6 neopixel board there appears to be either a capacitor or resistor between each LED. Do you know what and why those are there?

    nice video very informative, for newbie like me. im still waiting on my LEDs and supplies to arrive to begin making stuff. my first time working with arduino, soldering, and LEDs. i ordered bare ws2812b SMD LEDs from aliexpress and i want to connect them together like yours since i wont be using the strip ones/ones with pcb. what kind bare wire is that you are using to connect the LEDs together? is it just aluminum wire if so what gauge is it? does home depot or lowes sell them?

      Going well, thanks for asking! Baby Gianna had her 2 week doc appointment today. Just trying to keep up with the feedings (which have become more numerous over the past few days)...every 1-2 hours prob, which is tough at night. My job is to support the wife and take care of our handicap pug. Done a lot of cooking while i'm off from work (go back next Mon). I'm very blessed.

    Beginner non-electrical engineer Question: I want to design my own LED circuit with just the WS2812B RGB LEDs. Not ones that are already on a pcb but loose ones so I can make my own very compact pcba design layout. When looking at the Adafruit neopixel 12 LED schematic it shows five 1uF capacitors across the +/- but not where they go. Does it mater and does that size cap change with more LEDs or does the qty mater and what are they there for? My board will have around 24 LEDs and just want it to last a long time. Thank you!

    • @learnelectronics
      @learnelectronics  4 роки тому +1

      They are decoupling caps. They go between VCC & GND and help capture stray signals. I would use what they reccomend.

    hey man! nice video! which wire gauge should be used if you want to cut the LED's from a strip and connect them together again? Will 22 AWG suffice? I would like to use 300 LED's in total, so total power consumption is 60mAx300=18W at 5V, so I would at least need a 4A power supply.

    • @learnelectronics
      @learnelectronics  6 років тому

      +Mert Capkin I use 22 awg solid for just about everything up to 5 amps. You should be fine.

    • @mertcapkin7263
      @mertcapkin7263 6 років тому

      I have made some typos with my question. It should be 60mAx300=18A at 5V = 90W.. if I use 144 LEDs for a 12x12 matrix, is 22AWG also okay then for connecting each individual LED to one another? I would need a 50W power supply then, so 10A at 5V.

    • @learnelectronics
      @learnelectronics  6 років тому

      +Mert Capkin 10A you may want to to go 20awg to 18awg

    Why do we add a 1000uf capacitor there!??

  • @qiuzimorp
    @qiuzimorp 4 роки тому

    can you help me, why doesn't this LED light up when I connect it directly to power (3V-5V)? unlike the strip version that I can usually check directly using a 3v battery and lights up, and it happens to all the individual LEDs that I have.

    • @learnelectronics
      @learnelectronics  4 роки тому +2

      wS2812b LEDs require a signal along with power

      @@learnelectronics in your opinion what is the most appropriate capacitor voltage for this led? Is 1000μF 10V volts enough?

  • @gartmorn
    @gartmorn 7 років тому

    Do you need to put the number of pixel on the string into the code so it knows when it reaches the end of the sequence? I assume you do but just thought I'd ask!

    • @learnelectronics
      @learnelectronics  7 років тому

      +gartmorn Yes you do. In the Adafruit neopixel library you specify the number of pixels and the pin they are connected to.

    • @learnelectronics
