Zach Braff always delivers but even after seeing him on so many other podcasts you managed to mine a diamond with this conversation. Excited to have discovered you just as you’re getting started this is a hit!
The part of this interview that stayed with me is "we feel things we don't have words for". I think that's when future artists begin to grow, they use other means of expressing themselves. That's very interesting, thank you!
3:36 Legendary NASA engineer John Aaron once said that what made a good flight controller was having natural curiosity about processes that were not technically in your area of responsibility.
I have always loved Zach, and I fell in love with Alexi on Rich Roll podcast (now I see that there is a newer episode of Alexi and Rich. I'll be watching that next.) As for socks, when I get home from a day of waiting tables, if it's cold and I still need socks on, I will change to fresh socks. And I often take a second pair of socks to change into, on a long hike. Nothing like a fresh pair of socks to make everything a bit fresher.
Beautiful talk! I really enjoyed this. And about cinematography it made me think about how instead other directors have a lot under control, being famous for the numerous takes, the controlling or severity or the planning in the littlest details, probably thanks to the big budgets too, but more probably because of their personality. It was really interesting hear about how Garden State was coming to life in a different way in the editor’s room, I wonder if it will be different now, all this years later, with probably more time to film, more budget and more experience.
The scene Zach cut from Garden State was a reveal that the main character was just dreaming and when he woke up it turns out, he is a fat guy who's stranded on an island after a plane crash.

She really navigates the suicide story gracefully. I didn’t realize her own mom died by suicide.
Saw a clip on tiktok and came here to watch the whole thing. This is a wonderful interview, thank you for sharing ❤
This is hands down my new favorite podcast. Thank you, Alexi.

How are there so few views and comments on this video? Great interview!
Really appreciate this conversation. Thank you both!
“Change your socks at lunch” is genius. Thank you.

Can't wait to watch this. I remember watching the broken hearts club at the cinema! Muat have been 2001?
Fantastic interview
The cuts in the beginning gave me a headache
