    Greg I swear you are the most sincere reactor on UA-cam. I love how attentive and thoughtful you are. Tom’s verse took SO much courage! Unbelievable vulnerability. I’m so proud of him for turning his life around. HOG4EVER ✌️

    This song was my introduction to Tom. It hit me hard. My mother was a druggie/alcoholic for all my childhood. She left it all when I was almost 17 to raise my 2yo brother. She never went back to it, and was there with her the whole way helping her in any way I could. She said that it was always a struggle to not go back to it. Every slipup, every time she felt stressed, or anxious, or like she wasn't good enough, she'd feel the urge to take that drink, or find someone to buy a pill off of. But she didn't. We lost her in '17 to COPD.

    Madchild was in "Swollen Members" and later in "Rock Steady Crew". That's where he got his money to fund his coke operation. He's still clean, as far as I know.

    I have been clean since august 4th 2019, I lost my girls October 29th 2020. I haven't touched the drugs again, but every single day I have thought about the drugs and the urge has been really bad. Those demons are pounding on the doors in my head. And I wonder if it ever ends. It is horrible being sad and not being able to leave my house, bc I see kids everywhere, there are times i hear a little girl say mommy and i turn and look.

    As someone who has been to thousands of meeting over the last 30 plus years I can tell they have been to meetings but the meeting in the video wasn't very realistic... The verses were what would be called drunk or drug a-logs... At a "good meeting" an old timer would have told them "We all know how to get drunk & high, Why don't you tell us about how-what you are doing to stay clean & sober. That said I still love the song.

    • @robperry5293
      @robperry5293 3 роки тому +1

      I don't doubt that Tom has been staying sober-clean but it is clear that he hasn't totally bought into the 12 step programs. " "A while back I was an alcoholic". Anyone that has worked the steps knows that once an alcoholic-addict always one. One of our sayings is you can turn a cucumber into a pickle but you cant turn it back...You Sir have pickled yourself.

      Tom said in his lives he never had to do the AA meetings, it took it almost killing him and having a mental break down that set him on the path to recovery and he does do therapy though. He spent almost a year on his mothers couch not touching alcohol or drugs , reading and doing research on the things that he was afflicted with and he made it out of that hell. Thats when his music changed and he used it for his own therapy and helping others through his words.

  • @robperry5293
    @robperry5293 3 роки тому +3

    Greg...seeing you try and understand alcoholism & addiction when it is impossible to do using logic & reason, It is total insanity that seems appropriate while deep in the disease.

    I can't feel sorry for the 3... the had good money and good jobs but CHOOSE to sniff, shot, drink and smoke it away... it was their choice. My brother when I was young, around 6 to 7 years old, was in a motorcycle accident which broke the 2 vertebrae in his neck that the doctors said should have killed him instantly. However, due to an abnormality called cervical ribs, he didn't die. When the doctors finally found the 2 breaks, they told him he would be dead by morning, come morning and he was still alive, that's when the put him in traction drilling 4 holes in his head and told him he would have to remain on his back in traction for around 6 months, then would have to rebuild his muscles and relearn to walk. It was during this time my brother became addicted to pain meds. Years later, I was around 9 or 10, when I walked into the house and found my brother with his head in the gas oven and the pilot was off. My oldest brother had taught me CPR. So after opening windows shutting off the gas and pulling my much older brother close to the fresh air, I administered CPR, and was able to sustain him until my mother came home about 15 minutes after me. He survived, but a few weeks later, when I went down to the basement to do laundry, I must have walked down just after he kicked out the stool, to hang himself. Well still being sjall, but being a tree climbing tomboy. I climbed up his body, and cut him down with a knife I always had. Hen we fell, because I climbed up his body, I landed on top of his chest, which must have compressed his lungs enough that he started coughing and bresthing. Now all that happened before I was anywhere near 11. And yes, he finally got help and kicked his addiction after the hanging attempt. And although it wasn't the last time I would have to give him CPR, it was the last time I had to save him from trying to kill himself. The other times would also occur about a decade later, one shooting and one incident with a downed power line...
    Now it's for that reason I have a hard time feeling sorry for going to deep partying, cause they have cash...

    • @W4ll_fl0w3r
      @W4ll_fl0w3r 3 роки тому +2

      not once did any of these three ever ask you to feel bad... the song is about possibilities... motivate.. encouragement... empathy. that being said you are are also making assumptions in regards to what lead them to addiction in the first place.
      your brother sounds like strength incarnate but even the strong get tired.
