This is a very interesting interpretation of the classic Thai song. However, Lao Duang Duean is traditionally recognized as a love song in which the two lovers can't be together or aren't meant to be together.
I first heard this version of Lao Duangduean in the documentary 100 Years, Far from Home, Following the King Rama 5. (100 ปี ไกลบ้าน ตามเสด็จพระพุทธเจ้าหลวง) I feel like it fits the exciting atmosphere of traveling far away, and I think the song was chosen at the right time. Because the events of that trip happened at the same time as this song (King Rama 5 of Siam). 👏👏👏
@@AlfonsoScarano It seems to me that in Thailand, given that the artistic culture is very close to Indonesia, their traditional music is closer to Javanese gamelans for the orchestra or use of Phinn, Sleng (Luth) or khim (Thai version of Santoor (Persic/indian Table, cithares ). But yes I'm making you Fun, I like their classical (European) version of orchestral, The only thing I miss in Bangkok would be having a big opera house like the Bolshoi or Garnier and seeing tutus, ballets, and listening the music of Tchaikovsky for exemple. Moreover, a grand opera could alternate between classical (Western) representation and their own classic, notably their traditional opera. We use to play Lao Duang Duean very often. Just 2 months ago, for example, we have played it during our European tour www.thailandphil.com/thailand-philharmonic-embarks-phenomenal-european-tour/. Hereby you can watch the European audience reaction to Lao Duang Duean ua-cam.com/video/2KOI_0fe9c4/v-deo.html
This is superb! This one just transform this song from solemn and rather sad story about someone longing for the loved ones (from the lyrics) into an energetic and uplifting tale of a lover eagers to meet his partner again with full anticipation while riding back home through the woods at full speed. P.S. Your conducting style kinda reminds me of Richard Strauss, calm, peaceful, orderly, and let the song do its wonder.
Thank you Sir for your comment. Firstly the merit of what you call "transform this song from solemn and sad story into an energetic and uplifting tale" must go to Lt. Col. Prateep Suphanrojn who has perfectly orchestrated this wonderful Thai song. Then, of course, we have played it at very high level treating this music with the same respect we use to play Mahler, Bruckner and other western (mainly European) composers. We use to play Lao Duang Duean very often also during our abroad tour. Look here ua-cam.com/video/2KOI_0fe9c4/v-deo.html the European audience reaction after our performance of Thai traditional music. P.S. Thanks a lot for your highly competent words about my conducting technique because Richard Strauss conducting rules nevalalee.wordpress.com/2013/10/26/richard-strausss-ten-rules-of-conducting/ accompained me since when I started to conduct at 14 years old.

I'm very proud to see Thai songs go to foreign countries and be adapted to be different. Its uniqueness is very good.
