I used to sing this to my babies at night to help them go to sleep. I now sing it to my Grandchildren. I hope they will pass on the tradition. It's my most favorite song of all.
I remember my dad playing this music when i was lil. Now I'm 35 and still tear up when i listen to this masterpiece cuz i lost my dad last year and i really miss him.
Every time I listen to this, I get so emotional and tear up. The first time I heard Greensleeves, I actually wept and couldn’t calm down for a few minutes. I was overcome by a weird sense of nostalgia and even sadness even though nothing was wrong with me or my life in anyway way, it’s very strange. No other song has ever made me feel this way.
That's it, Sarah. This is the feeling that music has on the listener. Higher-pitched songs bring us strength and joy. But the songs modulated for 'minor' chords are closer, more feminine, more sentimental and make us reflect more. Congratulations for your sensitivity ...
Alas my love you do me wrong To cast me off discourteously; And I have loved you oh so long Delighting in your company. Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold Greensleeves was my heart of joy And who but my lady Greensleeves. I have been ready at your hand To grant whatever thou would'st crave; I have waged both life and land Your love and goodwill for to have. Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves my heart of gold Greensleeves was my heart of joy And who but my lady Greensleeves. Thy petticoat of sendle white With gold embroidered gorgeously; Thy petticoat of silk and white And these I bought gladly. Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves my heart of gold Greensleeves was my heart of joy And who but my lady Greensleeves.
@@AloisWeimar I doth protest. Lady Greensleeves might not be any gold digger, but the speaker of thee song is certainly a pleaser. She is annoyed with him.
Each one of those dots isn't just a star, but hundreds of billions of stars, gas, and debris writhing and spinning around a force so great that light cannot escape. Every second an innumerable amount of stars are born from millions of degrees of heat igniting elements, and an innumerable amount explode violently, giving birth to the building blocks of life. We try to stop and imagine what our universe is like, but in reality our minds can't quite comprehend how vast and how beautiful the real infinity of space. A beautiful song for a beautiful scene.
Few tunes are able to make me emotional the way Greensleeves does. Transports me to a time only my distant ancestors knew. I guess Ann Boleyn never imagined for a second the tune would have such an effect almost 500 years in the future.

This does sound rather "non-western" though. It has a Mediterranean sound (meaning west Asian, southern European and North African influence).
