This vid was enormously helpful and gave me the confidence to try the user Shaken, which I recently did, and the bike passed. Great advice on the Yobishaken, too. Although my bike is only 3 years old (so its first shaken), the headlight did need some adjustment, and I'm glad I went before the main Shaken (and picked up the Jibaiseki, too). The most difficult part of the user Shaken I found as a first timer was finding which building and window I needed to start the process; everything else was a cake walk. Coincidentally, I'm also in Fukuoka, so everything in the vid was recognisable 🙂 Thanks again; I'll be recommending this vid to every foreign biker I meet.
This is great to hear. I am glad it was helpful. I noticed the test has changed a bit when I did it last year and thought about making a follow up video, but the QR code changes are so small that I think most can navigate their way through with this video. I hope more people can save money just doing it themselves. Ride safe. 😊
Thanks for a great video, helped a lot. Though next time you go, you should do a new one. Things got even easier with the paperwork. Near entrance is a computer, you tick two boxes and scan a QR code that is on your old shakenso. It prints your paperwork, it’s filled in. Then just buy stamps and insurance in other building and you are good to go for the test
Thanks for the update Jan! That is great it has gotten easier. I wish I had the time to make a new one. I will see if I can stick some graphics in this one and just let people know it has been changed. I wonder if that is everywhere in Japan. Great news though.
Thank you for the information sir! I think I’ll give it a shot doing the Shaken myself! My local Ducati dealer wants between 100000 to 150000 Yen to pass Shaken on my Monster 400ie. Ouch!
I've heard stories of Shaken horror, but I feel like I've just watched a Vincent Price movie. lolz. Really though great job putting all of that together. :)
Very in-depth video. You hit all the important steps, kudos. Ive dont it a half of dozen times now, was thinking of making something like this but too lazy. good job.
Super comprehensive guide! and the yobi-shaken info is very helpful, thanks! I'll be going in for my first shaken in a couple months, but knowing all this, it shouldn't be as stressful as I've heard :)
CC3l glad that is helpful. I actually just did mine again recently. No changes. The only thing I would add is if you ask them to do the paperwork for you, you may have trouble getting them to cooperate depending on which test center you are at. Other than that, it is not a stressful thing at all.
Kriluck0 PS4 Any bike over 250cc is basically the same. 17,280. Variations occur when you have a foreign bike which a a tad more but not much. You can see it here: www.autoby.jp/_ct/17294594 (Japanese only)
Andrew Sawley Thanks for watching Andrew. This video only took me a around 10 hours to edit in full. My latest video on Jigoku Onsen in Minami Aso took 4 months. Catch you around.
Wonderful video, great information! I'm still undecided, get a 250cc or something over that capacity limit... If I do get a bike over 250cc, I'm definitely going to heed all you mentioned herein. Advance thanks to you!
Awesome video sir i was wondering how much a 1100cc cruiser would cost me for this shaken test if it had no problem? And about the road tax too is it about same with a Car
Chopstick Namaste thanks for watching that. Glad it was helpful. The total will come in under 20,000 yen, but it does matter whether your bike is not a Japanese bike or not. If you have a “gaisha”, which means foreign bike, the final cost is a 2 or 3 thousand yen more. Still way cheaper than the dealer. Good luck with that.
Excellent video! One question, what was that about buying insurance at the nearby service center (1,500 yen) but that you didn't and it ended costing you 2,000 yen? Thanks!! ;)
Art, I think that was about loyal customers. The insurance companies give you a discount if you renew it from the same company you bought it from the last time. I could be wrong though.
Ah, ok! Tks. I've been thru the shaken process three times and next week will be first time I'll do it myself. Good to confirm these details now! I hadn't realized how much had been going to bike shop handling it for me. Expecting cost savings of 30,000+ yen. :)
baikudokan1 you understood me wrong: I am living in Fukuoka, when I'm saying that it's a waste of time I mean that almost all companies who selling bikes here can do shaken for you. And also let me expand second question: did you bought bike on auction or in local company? How big it the difference between doing shaken by your self and company's services?
Some people prefer to do the test themselves because you save on average 40,000yen. This is written in the description below the video. When you buy a bike you usually start a new inspection period. If you buy a new bike you need to do it again on the third year and then every two years after that. I bought my bike in a local shop. I know nothing about purchases on the auctions. Good luck with your search.
Thanks a lot 🙏
Glad it helped. 😊

Thanks I’m on my way todo mine. Awesome vid
Great! Please be aware there have been some changes since this video was made.
Awesome video, thanks. Almost 3400 views, think how many millions have been saved from making this one vid - I had no idea you could do it yourself.
Glad this helped. I will definitely shoot a new one in the summer. Finding time to edit it is another story. Lol

Same for my 1098s. F*** that.
Wow--the CA DMV doesn't seem nearly so bad anymore!
Great presentation! Seriously Great presentation. :)
Glad you liked that. I should get some credit for making the CA DMV look good which isn't an easy job.
I've heard stories of Shaken horror, but I feel like I've just watched a Vincent Price movie. lolz. Really though great job putting all of that together. :)

Robbery.
Legal robbery. Lol
Process - well explained!!! Thanks for the step by step... You rock mate
+Drew Smith No you rock more!! Thanks for watching bud.

How much would a 400cc cost?

Fantastic, well done, only 4 months to edit. Would take me forever...

Wasted time doesn't worth it. By the way, where did you bought your bike?
+Aku If you don't live in Japan, this video is a bit of a waste of time. Sorry about that. I bought my bike here in Japan.

+baikudokan1 Looks like I was lucky when bought bike in Red Baron, they charging only 3万.
That's because it is the first purchase. It's always cheap at Red Baron and most shops on the first purchase. Have fun riding.
