4 Motorcycles Try To Evade Arkansas State Police

- I was working traffic enforcement in West Memphis at the intersection of Broadway and MLK when I witnessed a group of motorcyclists run the red light at the intersection. I attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating my emergency lights and siren in the westbound lane of Broadway when the motorcyclist began to flee. One of the motorcyclists performed a U-turn in the middle of Broadway and traveled eastbound. The other three proceeded westbound on Broadway, two of the motorcyclists turned left onto unknown side streets and the third continued westbound on Broadway.The motorcyclist who continued westbound on Broadway was driving at a high rate of speed and was very reckless. I attempted to slow the suspect down by passing him and slowing down as other officers kept him from turning around and fleeing in the opposite direction. The suspect passed me on the left by going into the eastbound traffic lane, striking my patrol unit's mirror as he passed. I once again successfully passed the suspect and coordinated with the other units to get the suspect to slow down and finally stop on U.S. Highway 70 just west of College Ave. The suspect was taken into custody and identified as Brandon Tolbert of Memphis, Tennessee. A search of his person revealed a backpack that contained 25.7 grams of Marijuana, Scales, and a Taurus 9mm G2C serial # ADB904946. The gun and Marijuana were turned over to the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force. Mr. Tolbert was taken to the Crittenden County Jail and booked on the charges listed below: two more suspects did get arrested as well.

I used to lose cops all the time within 2 blocks on my RD350. What I have noticed is most riders todays only know how to go fast in a straight line and can't corner for crap. A motorcycle doesn't have top speed over a car in the corner but, it surely can brake and accelerate faster so the key it to keep making turns. Don't go in a straight line. The foot positioning on all these guys was from the insole to the heal. Total squids in my eyes. Always have the ball of your feet on the pegs and be prepared to stand on them like riding a dirt bike if you have to(even in the middle of a turn). However, I am not condoning this behavior by any means.
@@RedBud315 Yeah, you could loose cops on a 2stroke 350 back in the 80s when the cops were sporting 180hp Crown Vics. Try doing that now to a Scat Pack Charger.
@@RedBud315I'm not so sure about your braking assertion. Versus a garden-variety car, possibly; versus a car designed for pursuit, probably not. Additionally, there are things like ABS that most motorcycles don't have and the problem of trying to make sure you don't lock up or endo.
Where the bike has the advantage is acceleration (though I'm doubtful about a 350 relative to many cars today) and the fact that the road is wider, relatively speaking, allowing better angles. Of course, that road-width advantage is mostly offset by the fact that a bike cannot corner as hard.

From the timestamp on the cams, I'd wager a shift change just happened and everyone was grabbing food/drinks/snacks at start of shift, lol. That's why so many units were at a gas station chilling. Likely get free/discounted stuff to encourage police presence.

I’ve been riding since I was six and have raced dirt and road racing on a semi professional level from age 14. Even when I ventured out on the streets in my full racing leather suit and equipment riding an ex-AMA superbike converted back to street use I wasn’t dumb enough to run from cops.
I can only agree with your opinion. Raced for a number of years and I’m definitely not going to risk it all running from the law. Especially on a 400. I don’t care who you a cop car with four wheels going corner way better than you’d think. As far speed that 400 cc bike isn’t going out run a pursuit Explorer much less a Dodge Charger. As a Sportbike rider myself, I say haul him to jail.
@@chrismoody1342 what I find most shocking isn’t the idiot trying to run on a 400, it’s that they have no basic riding techniques. Watch them when they turn a corner or swerve. No counter steering along with leaning away from the turn instead of into it.

@@pokerpariah fortnine has a video on it, counter leaning is the correct way to turn, no reason to lean your body off the bike unless and until the bike is fully leaned over and at the edge of the tire.
Painful to watch. Totally ridiculous. If your bike can't do atleast 160 you have no business attempting to flee. He should have stopped early and took the ticket.
Even if your bike can do 200 mph, better to take a ticket than to eat the asphalt.

I lived over there all they had to do was uturn the other way like the 1st guy and head to the eway going to Memphis they would have lost them on the bridge because the doing construction so the would have been able to squeeze through traffic

Dude the little 250,400,500cc can get away just not in the straight roads. Have to do alot of turns. Turns and accellerate turn and excellerate. Straight roads them vechicles cruise at 100mph.
It must be a 300 or 400cc bike with a max speed of 100. Not a smart move to run.
