Maybe it's just cause in the past you couldnt so easily share "yourself" since they had little to no internet, but maybe it's also cause of a cultural shift? There is this urban legend floating around here in Austria that in the 80s local climbers caught wind of germans preparring for a first ascent off one of the walls in the west of Austria. The locals heard of it and, without preparation, went to do the FA a day before the germans came over to take it away from them. "Because no way in hell is a german going to do a FA of OUR wall" is what is usually said.
@@ukclimbingofficial - yeah, was thinking the same thing. i agree there's a generational shift where we don't want our pro climbers to be jerks anymore, like they were in the 90s. but i also think that Pete is singularly just a really nice and humble person. you'd never know that he's both one of the strongest outdoor climbers in the world, and one of best.
Funnily enough I get complimented about how lovely the kitchen is all the time, but here's the twist - it's not my kitchen (it belongs to Nick, our cameraman/filmmaker).
These days, many top climbers show themselves to be so warm, approachable and humourous. It wasn't always the case.

Pete is a particularly fine example of this, but there’s plenty of others. Jim Pope, in particular, is basically the world’s nicest person.

I keep getting distracted by how nice Rob's kitchen is.👌 Props to Pete and Jakob too, of course...

he climbed 80m of some of the hardest climbing hes ever done then solos 20m to the top? unreal
I’m sure it seemed logical at the time 😅

Love the interview, very insightful. Pete smashed it!
Pete consistently stuns me with how down to earth and humble he is. I’m genuinely unsure whether he realises the magnitude of what he’s just done!!
I’m waiting for Pete to say, “I suppose we’ll just have to wait for an O-grade.”
9a+/b, no big deal, chill warm-up
