By far the greatest vocal group in Korean history - period. You probably wouldn't be surprised to find out all four members are vocal professors at different universities. Big Mama is just the perfect combo of great vocals with amazing technique (proper singing).
As much as I love BES (Naul is arguably the greatest male singer, although I might give Park Hyo Shin the title), I feel like Big Mama has more complex arrangements and shows off their harmonies when all four sing together. Not taking anything away from them (or Sweet Sorrow, another great vocal group).@@HappB5
Big Mama was one of the very first groups I knew of when I found Korean music. Love this. I get goosebumps every time I listen to the Break Away climax. And the power that comes from Lee Young Hyun just floors me always.

They debuted in 2003, disbanded around 2012(?) & reunited in 2021 w/their new single at that time "One Day More" & came out w/a new album in 2022. They just celebrated their 20th Anniversary w/a Christmas concert in December 2023 & debuted w/another album. They're the OG of YG entertainment & was named Big Mama for their "big voices" bcz they didn't fit in to the stereotypical k-pop thin, skinny dancers. They are all confirmed professors of music & teach in Universities. The far left singer Shin Yeona just got promoted to Dean status recently. The 3rd singer from the left Lee Young Hyun gave birth last May 2023 so they were on hiatus but they're back performing & promoting their album. Her solo is a famous song (titled Resignation) covered by many & is a favorite Karaoke song in Korea. Most people don't/didn't know she is the original composer of that song which she wrote of a breakup in her college days. She & the youngest Park Min Hye perform a lot together & at a lot of functions & shows. I'm sure you will appreciate them even more as you dive into their soulful music.
