I had one of these Zoltans 30 years ago, I sorta wish I still had it. Mine was missing the phone and the original tape player. One of the prior owners had installed a cassette player with the original messages, (and foil tape between the messages). It had a small speaker inside cabinet, but I wired a bigger one on the bottom. It worked great, and my company always had fun with it. I contacted the original recording studio, and for the price of $50, he sent me a cassette with 25 messages, all done by the original voice actor. I still have that around here somewhere.
@@dahur a cassette doesn't rewind however. And reversible cassette could use foil sensors. Could use a time control but special equipment required. If you find the tape it would be interesting to see what it was!
@@MainStreetRANDYLAND I just remember the prior owner had it so I never had to rewind it...and the tape had foil between the messages to know when to stop. The one the recording engineer sent me was just an ordinary cassette tape with all the messages he had. It wasn't set up to be played on my special cassette deck.
Randy, I can’t believe how perfect this series is. This is what I’ve been waiting for from you. It gives great history and operational information and oozes your essence the whole time. This is how you get more fans/subscribers too.
I have one from the 30's also an old tobacco Indian from 1910 found in an old store in Baltimore MD back in the 60s its fun collecting these things love history by the way I'm a Libra too
Pretty neat Randy. Your NJ/NY accent gives you up. The way words are pronounced in your region seals the deal. Our words are different sounding than yours. People can get an idea from the area you reside from by how we say words.I love what you did. Clever and entertaining. Now he won't get smacked around anymore.
I remember seeing one of those in Florida I think many years ago. It had the telephone receiver on it, and somebody had “modified” the name by painting an R where the N should be. This was not long after the movie “Big” came out. I remember a few years later there were a ton of small fortune teller machines around that were basically a magic ball that you put your hand on. The machine call out “Fortune for a quarter, I love quarters!” And “Give me a quarter and I’ll tell you your fortune!” It was supposed to be a gypsy I think. They were everywhere in the Disney world area back then. Great memories.
@@MainStreetRANDYLAND Instead of a swami He is a young, good looking Wizard type that hasn't earned the pointy hat yet lol...gives encouragement and confidence. Could be your way into the 3/4 scale home market. Would be cool if someone made a 3/4 cab like this for home arcades. Full sized for arcades.
Zoltan, not Zoltanr.... Yes he was in Seaside. They had one in both of the 2 large Arcades with Merry Go Rounds... This one came from the Casino Arcade. I also have the one from the Carousel Arcade. Yes I know Morgana; I have 2.
@@MainStreetRANDYLAND Ugh, made the forbidden mistake. Corrected to Zoltan. Do you have the Morgana with the hand? Are either of those from Seaside? That would also be the one we tried. Do you have a video on her? I have to get to bed but thanks for the info. Great channel. I hope you get more subs, you deserve them. G'night.
I have a Zoltan and the tape is not working. Do you have instructions somewhere on how you made the conversion to record and play new fortunes? That would be awesome to know to keep these alive!
Like all things in this world that have morphed, whether we like it or not, Zoltar is better. Zoltar is made by one man and a few workers, probably his family, in a small building, all by themselves, and you'll see these awesome machines when you least expect it, like on a Royal Caribbean ship (Harmony Of The Seas). Zoltan couldn't keep up with the times, I'm afraid. Either way, plenty of knock-offs of both brands are out there and we all "get it".
Nothing wrong with movie Zoltar other than the idea that it is exploiting the fame which Zoltan started. The same may be said for the coin operated Zoltar, going after the game of the movie Zoltar. Each one is nothing like the one they knock off, but they use the name to trick people. All the time I hear people in the arcade talk about Zoltan as from the movie big, and it is not. Why not call the knock offs something else? Perhaps because they are trying to be knock offs!
Would it have been possible to transfer the original Zoltan voice to a computer to enhance and restore the audio clarity? That's what I would have done. No hate for your method though.
Another awesome Episode from Randy. Big fan of the Natural lighting in this, really lets those colors on the vintage machines pop!
So glad that you were able to secure a new tape. Wonderful job recording the vocal tracks. Great video!

I am surprised it was a cassette. They are usually a type of cart.
@@MainStreetRANDYLAND I read somewhere that the original player almost always died. That's probably what happened to mine.

Great stuff Randy! Keep it up!
That takes dedication. Great job retrofitting the zoltan! You should sell the randy zoltan recordings..

I went to your arcade in wildwood NJ and I smell funny
Can you imagine the karma from stealing a Zoltan tape?? That's the stuff horror movies are made of. 😬
Very interesting Randy ! Thank you
This is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing Randy!
Great channel! Bill from Happy Vending brought me here.
Randy that is pretty cool he should be renamed Wise Randy.
Design your own cabinet using your Randy heads, could be really cool.
Thought of it, but never got around to it.

You could make a digital copy of that tape now. Maybe even put raspberry pie in the unit to run the speech.
Could.
That Fortune panel seems vaguely familiar. That could be the very Zoltan my brother and I used at Seaside back in the day. Do you remember Morgana?

You can attempt to alter audio with professional audio equipment I am sure, however, for my world Randy Zoltan is the far better choice!
This channel is strange
