I had a John Deere 548E. Did the same thing! The park break was sticking on mine.

I know what the problem is. You have to rebuild the winch control . It needs to be resealed. It is bypassing and you not getting enough hydraulic pressure going to your shift controller on the back of the transmission . You need more than 250 psi to 600psi for it to work properly in you transmission clutch packs .

my 664 does the same thing.i was told it could be a valve on the side of the transmission.mine came with a new valve but i just havent put it on yet.normally works ok when it warms up,some times it still pops out even when warm

Our clark 664 we run in the sticks we have to let it warm up atleast 20mn-30mn to get the center shaft spinning good then we take off in the morning. If we just start and go it barely moves and or wont move.
I would try that a few days in a row let her warm up till the shaft is spinning then try to engage the gears if they engage everytime with consistentcy i wouldnt fret or worry about it to much.
Theres no mechanical reason behind why these skidders do this i believe. Nor am i a mechanic but ive been around/logged and logging with powershifts clark skidders and we always had to let it warm up even in the summer. Hope it helps you

The driveline from the converter spins... Just no go lol. I will try letting it warm up a bit and see if that helps. Thanks for the input!

Should be a large transmission spin on filter on right side behind panel. At least that’s what my 664B had. Has it been changed?

I have the same problem with mine the pick up tube is cracked in the transmission so if the oil is to low it will suck air depending where the crack is I run mine about 2 quarts over full works fine

You may want to try a pump before trans seems a little cheaper. And check all the older suction hoses and pressure lines going to transmission if the hose lining is loose it could be sucking down flat when the oil is thick and not so much when it is hot

I haven't been around skidders much at all, but power shift transmissions, yes. Most generally, if it's a pump or clutch mechanical issue, it will get worse as it warms up. Considering yours gets BETTER as it warms up leads me to believe it's a fluid path issue, assuming this transmission is 100% mechanical, and has no electrically controlled components.

      All mechanical

I'd almost bet it's your torque converter, or your linkage is of

Might ask" western truck and tractor repair" he is on youtube he gets into detail when he is troubleshooting.

Im thinking it may be the torque converter.... Driveline from the converter to the transmission does spin but..... Idk.

Unfortunately I never did! I sold the skidder awhile back. But the guy who bought it loved it and made a living with that skidder.
