I help design production lines in body shops, and I worked on the design of the body shop for both X350 and X351 over here in the UK. X350 was pretty groundbreaking with the all aluminium construction which is held together with glue and self piercing rivets. Ford and Jaguar threw money at that project. I personally really like the styling of the X351. Neither sold in the numbers Jag was hoping for, particularly the last couple of years of X351 volumes were very low. Massive shame that the all electric XJ replacement was cancelled at the last minute, but I guess that’s what you get if you put a French guy in charge of an iconic British brand !

Everything considered, the X350 should be seen as sales flop. It was meant to be on the market for 10 years, but only survived 6. Of which it was the worst sold car in many markets for years. They had to put a Peugeot v6 diesel in it that wasn't up to Jaguar standards. The name for unreliability and brand detoriorating because of the X type and in lesser amount the S type plagued the brand.
I love my x350, it's the best worst car I've owned. Many many problems but it still manages to put a smile on my face. Fuel economy is honestly not that bad, my parents had worse MPG in their 2018 BMW 320i.
To get the most out of theid X350 investment, I think they should have offered the x358 bumper kit in earlier years as an 'R' package and offer more interior options. Inside, they're all the same. Night vision and soft close doors would have been nice to have as optional exta's as well as an electric closing boot. More leather options and extended leather packages would have been welcome as well. Mine is a top spec fully optioned, but still has afwul Ford plastics all around the interior. Together with more detailed wood inlay in the interior (like the XJ40 and X300 had in higher spec) they could have extended its market to that of the Continental flying spur and Quattroporte.
After that, they should have replaced the XJ with a Bertone B99 adaptation. And release the X351 as an 'XJS', in the same way Mercedes had the CLS and now the AMG GT as a more sporty looking sedan.
It's a shame how Jaguar lost their image from 2008 onwards. At that point, their image was all they had, lacking sales, but at least they were still one of the coolest car brands out there.

I definitely like the older one the newer ones look like Hyundai s. I'm starting to collect older jaguars to save them from the scrapyards I'm going to try to save everyone I can I love the older ones. I'd rather have your car than the newer one.

Haha, i love that the XJR is still surprising you after a year of ownership. I definitely prefer the X350, it might be old fashioned to some but i think they are such a classy interior - i love being in mine, cant thank you enough for selling it to me!

Great video. Loved the XJR supercharger moments. So so funny to see your face. Interesting conclusion as I’ve often wondered.

I went from a 3.0ltr petrol V6 premium luxury XF to an X351 3.0ltr supercharged portfolio XJ and the XF was a great car but the XJ is next level. I've had it a year and done 9000 miles and I still fall in love with it every time I drive it. Mine had super low miles at 16000 on a late 2012 (face-lift) I think the last list price was around £75,000 and I paid £19,000 for Mine. Been serviced every 2000 miles and garaged from new. That said I'd love an X358 XJR.

Was surprised when you said the NA was as quick 😂. Then you pushed the pedal into the Wilton.

If you get the chance try a 5.0 supercharged X351. It's a "now I need a cigarette and a lie down" car, a total animal.

I see that the headliner on the 2010 car is already sagging, a universal issue with Jaguars. Why can't they get this resolved? I priced a replacement headliner for a 2006 VDP, $1,550 US, not including labor. Sun visors are $450 EACH! Are rear brakes a known issue on X350/X358 cars? I'm looking at a 2006 VDP, it's had several rear pad/rotor replacements, none noted at the front. I suspect a master cylinder issue. The car is beautiful, 86,000 miles, BRG over a light color, currently priced around $16,000, too high by about $4,000. I bought a 2016 F-Type 3.0 S manual transmission coupe this past May, am I insane to want an XJ8 to join it?

Truly, you never regret it if you buy a good one! I notice prices are holding at the moment
Rotors can tend to warp, especially on xjrs, but they are cheap or can even be machined.
Good luck@ Check my xjr service video out!

i have a xjr 4.2 v8 to, beautiful car and ride it with a big smile, but by far the most problemcar i've ever had in electronics. One of the computermodules replaced and now i have a problem with the central locking of the car. No way i can put the car on lock...Also not with hand door locking by key. But it's a JAG right?!

      Hi Jakob
I'm sure that the remote issue can be fixed easily! Do you follow Jag lovers.org they will have a solution. Unsure why the key doesn't work as that's purely mechanical not not related!
      Thanks for watching

@@tjmthejagmandownunder the garage said the locking-module in the drivers door is probably broken. I've had, by putting car in D, locking but also unlocking directly after, for a while now. They say, it must be the electronic module in your drivers door.
